RWBY - The Hindenburg on which Rooster Teeth rests its hopes, dreams and future

And its still just as correct and valid a point as when Ironwood made it. Because you know, he actually did nothing wrong. Its really incredible how these writers really have no actual counter argument and have to resort to this kindergarten level argument.

The two characters who have been losing more and more of their character to bait a ship have now finally given up the last vestiges of character they had left to rug munch each other. Who the fuck cares?
WBY have been done with their character arcs for a while. (They were awful), so now RT has to asspull one for Ruby just to keep their Magnum Opus alive.

So I know Jaune gets shit on a lot of being a self-insert m, but I never really looked into him being a self-insert and just liked him as a character beforehand.

But man, do they almost do nothing but torture the guy in the show, fucking hell. Dude’s been through more shit than most of the four supposed main characters. Weakest at school and constantly beat up, partner killed, one most on his own, had to literally kill one of his friends to safeguard a superpower, and now sent back in time and trapped in a weirdo realm for touching an apple.

Also the whole being poisoned thing.

Honestly, all the men in the show get the short end of the stick to say the least. And then we have a main character like Blake who has the worst "racism" arc ever.

What are the odds they have her go through some emo phase so she ends up (something) like the Ruby Rose we saw in the Red trailer?

And they have him all that. And nothing for their company mascot supposed main character. That’s where some of the criticism lies: a supporting character gets some of the crap a main character should probably get.

Jaune himself isn't necessarily a bad character- My main problem is that this is RWBY, not The Jaune Show. Granted, I think it'd be harder to write for the girls, since three out of four of them DON'T HAVE CHARACTER ARCS.

If you ask the fans of RWBY though, they will tell you that being lesbian is a character arc.

It can be.

It isn't in this show, but it's something they could have actually written instead of just going "THE FANS WANT THESE TWO TO KISS?! HERE THEY'RE KISSING PLEASE SUB TO CRUNCHROLL THERE'S A LOT RIDINING ON THIS!"

This could have been a really specific coversation between Ruby and Yang if the plot remembered they're sisters*.

Did they ever resolve the Ruby's parent's plot BTW? It seemed like they were slowly working towards a reveal where Qrow is actually Ruby's father and that for some reason that team is keeping it a secret.

Well, another roundtable.

-For Barbara, she didn't know how to do the Bumblebee kiss scene when she walked into the booth. She says she was weeping in that moment, and that the design and writing was perfect for that moment, and it was the culmination of so many things that happened between Blake and Yang, and to get to that moment was so meaningful for her nd Arryn (Blake's VA), and the scene was done in just a beautiful and perfect way.

-Kerry says it's been hard to sit on the Bumblebee confirmation for so long, and that the scene was written in 2020, and they were just waiting. Barbara mentions that they knew this would happen before V1. Kerry mentions it's been a thing for a long time and he and CRWBY are happy for the community.

-Eddy mentions that CRWBY wanted to see every episode to feel like its own story, and he liked having the team at a crossroads and have weird things happen to them in the Ever After, and it felt like a good idea to have Blake and Yang be in a weather pattern forcing them to work out their issues, and they didn't know what exactly the scene would look like until they wrote the scene where they were figuring out how to take the next step.

-Kerry says that V9 lets CRWBY be on the nose about things (though it's very clear among them that they all do it. and do it in a way that's fun and different.)

-Barbara says taking it away from Remnant and forcing Blake and Yang to face their issues in a place where it's just them in that moment was beautiful.

-Lindsay took away from the writing was the play on the idea of "and they lived happily ever after", except Blake and Yang are living "happily in the Ever After", but this isn't the end, it's the beginning of their new relationship, and now they'll leave changed but whole.

-Barbara mentions that she needs to watch every reaction video.

-Erin Winn (Art Director) mentions that she's seen the ILY scene a dozen times and it gets her every time.

-Kerry was adamant about directing the love scene.

-Eddy really wanted to write was the reversal of the fairy tale scenes.

-Eddy feels that the structure of being in an in universe fairy tale gave a clear path for the characters to follow, even as the characters are learning things aren't as they seem, and they learn what they know is a lie, and it felt like a good point to expose The Cat and reveal Jaune at the halfway point.

-Kerry says "if you wanna get weird, get weird". He adds that the way Jaune is presented was the result of talks about how to bring Jaune in and just having him as he normally is wouldn't be very interesting. Kerry says that this'll be explored more.

Also, It's time for VAs to do a podcast together.

In the RWBY/DC comics, then being in the DC World apparently starts giving DC characters other powers. Batman gains precognition and is determined to not use it as he doesn’t want to depend on it only for it to go “poof” once the crossover ends.

As fun as it would be to go full super turbo autist and dig through every single piece of old footage of Monty that can be found, I'm not going to because I don't hate myself (or RWBY) quite that much. That said, I'm damn near 100% positive that somewhere, someone asked Monty early on if there were any plans for romance in the series or for any of the main crew, and Monty said "No, that's not the focus of the series, and I don't think I'll ever add that".

I like romance shit, it can be fun, but I was actually happy hearing that Monty didn't want that for his series because RWBY was supposed to be a fun action/adventure series, and I thought romance would bog it down. So, I'm confident when I say Barbara is a lying whore, and this Bumblebee shit exists purely as a surface level attempt at trying to attract/appease viewers so the ship sinks a little less slowly.

Ya know, I can't tell what's worse. The blatant lying of it or the implications that they did plan that Yang and Blake's entire character arc is to be shipped together no matter how high the cost. Because if that's the case, They had no value in Blake other than being the other part of the ship.

So, thank God she's just blatantly lying.

You can also just have eyes and a functioning brain to recognize that Sun and Blake were clearly set up to have a side romance that was awkwardly shoved to the side to make way for a pandering ship of rug munchers between two characters that had barely any real interaction (though to be fair, most characters have barely any real interaction outside Jaune and Pyrrha).

God they look so ugly. The whole thing just reeks of making some 14-year-old's fanfiction into a publicized work.

I'm pretty sure there's at least a few instances confirming this. Monty also said that he wanted the dynamic in team RWBY to be a sisterhood. On the other hand, Arryn and Barb definitely shipped their characters since the beginning. I think there was actually a panel in which Arryn asked Monty "Can I say my character and another character are in a lesbian relationship?", to which Monty replied, "No, absolutely not".
So Barb is half right, but of course, she isn't talking about Monty, she's talking about HER.

They stopped the main story completely just to have character development when they should’ve been having character development since at least v3. Also the video i linked shows that bumbleby was definitely planned since the beginning.

Curious how Weiss, the girl who recently had her home destroyed turn comic relief for the season, is missing from the CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT post.
