I didn't say covid was a hoax. I said how can a person hold the belief that Trump can both A) Believe covid was a hoax and B) destroy the economy with shutdowns meant to fight covid.
It doesn't make sense.

This is such a NPC take it is almost beautiful in it's purity. Trump never called Covid a hoax, the first people to do that and to insist on it were actually the "Science" that in January and February of 2020 insisted that there was nothing wrong, it was just a mild flu, calling it Wuhan Flu was racist, and that you should hug a chink and closing the borders because of it was racist.

It's not that COVID was a hoax, the response from the WHO and the US Government was. Surveys said that the average person thought that getting COVID meant a 25-50% chance of death. That's how much fear porn they were pumping into the populace at the time.
Now we find out later. The vaxxes were almost completely untested, cause more damage than they prevent, and the chance of death was somewhere around 1% at the top end.
Then we have the hot mic moments of Health officials, and people that said you should get the vax in social media posts on COVID, pushed in the media, and then find out they have an IMDb profile.
The whole thing was a money grab, and co-incidentally, allowed Biden during almost the entirety of his campaign, to speak from a basement with prepared statements, with no imagery to let you know how big the crowds were coming out to see him. But apparently he's the most popular President in Human history.

I don't see how initiating vaccine research somehow is responsible for the entire mishandling of Covid, though.

Actually I think the "gotcha" is the fact that that is a extremely strong and powerful argument against the idea that Trump is a Covid denier.
Honestly there has been so much historical revisionism on Covid already it is fucking insane. I remember how much the first three months had denial of it, then how it was gonna kill everyone, then how thinking the lockdowns were gonna result in loss of freedom was insane conspiracy theories, the Fauci and Cuomo worship, the absolute insane hysteria over masks, the hatred of anyone who was not kissing the feet of doctors and nurses...

I think this comes from the idea that some people have that if Trump locked down harder Covid would somehow be controlled. Never mind that fact that it was their side that virtue signalled about anti yellow racism.
