I was listening to a podcast discussion about how drinking a liquor called baiju is such an acquired taste that it takes at least 300 tries before you can enjoy it. I wonder how that is for learning how to cook a piece of chicken? It was definitely years before I was good at preparing it.

I never knew about the cornstarch one, learn something new every day. The fact that there are blacks in the US who still practice geophagy is baffling though. edit: on a similar trip in Africa I've seen meat washed. all meat. it comes from the open air butcher in the region I was at, and could have bat/rat shit, been handled by people with dirty hands, or have some kind of debris on it. meat was rinsed well in cold water usually outdoors before being prepared in the kitchen. it was not anything like scrubbing it with soap in a sink after buying it at a clean store

I dealt with that too, they told me that olmec heads look like black people just because of the wide nose and large lips, even though it looks more like a scale statue of George Lopez's head or how the Mayans were black because their art portrays them with dreads, something they claim only they can do.
My favorite is the claim that even asians used to be dark, but then they were genocided and replaced by the light skinned asians.
