What I don’t understand is why most of the audience for this kind of content and even moreso with true crime content seem to be 40 plus year old CNA’s.

Niche my ass. Literally every week I see at least another 6 appearing on YouTube. It was niche 2-3 years ago, now it's completely unappealing and cringe because literally everyone and their mother has a series, very similarly to creepypasta when they became popular. Fucking zoomers. Installing my RAM incorrectly the other day was more terrifying and the way my computer flipped out is more interesting, than literally anything the genre has to offer at this point.

That just made me think of something a psychology teacher of mine said way back in the day. There was a subset of women who had a boner for "bad boys" and used psychology as a springboard into being "the one to fix him" because they like the idea of male dominance and ruthless aggression exerted on everyone else but them.
He called it the "bitch gene" as a joke.
Back then, I kinda laughed at that because it sounded so silly but with Tumblr hoes thirsting for Dahmer, Bundy, and school shooters and sucking up basic psychology to "understand them" there probably is some truth to the "bitch gene".

I started seeing it pop up a lot too. I guess it shows what kind of audience NM currently has that they too clung onto it so fast just because their internet furry "dad" worshipped it. There isn't even much of substance here that hasn't been done better before, FNAF got in early on this autism yet people are still eating the same shit up over and over. At least in FNAF's case the creator wasn't a clear wackjob, actually being a family man. This one starting from a troon that hates their family is a powder keg.

The one with the coffin that was crushed under concrete and dirt really got to me. Ugh, that must have been a horrible way to die and a fucked up thing to witness. You don't see much but it's just the implication and the knowledge that really fucks with me. And the fact that Shirk survived, is absolutely mindblowing. Joe on the other hand...yikes.
I don't know how to feel about him adding the Louis Condradt incident given how well-known it is. Plus...well, ToadMcKinley. I guess because I've heard so much about it that I was kinda eh,
Of course, Nick added moments that didn't actually happen on TV and my autistic brain didn't like that because when I hear "darkest moment in TV", I expect shit that happened on TV. And naturally, he talked about Richard Ramirez on that dating show.
This part however caused me to roll my eyes. Fucking nigger talking about this shit, then adopting a kid and beating that kid to death.

I'm a child of the 80s so the analog shit is a bit nostalgic for me. The problem is it's overused and used in cases where it makes no sense. It's gotten to be like found footage or excessive gore, a crutch for lazy or stupid writing.

Petscop marked the beginning of my interest in this genre, so it was really disappointing to see it turn faggy over time. I remember checking Tony's, the creator's twitter account and seeing him support troons as well as revealing that he didn't plan the story out and made it up as he went along, here's a good video summing up all of Tony's bullshit,

it still fucks with me how dirty the larger online "horror fan" communities did petscop. it wasn't perfect but it was really good for a college student's first real-scale solo project, and it didn't fall into the dumb fuckin ARG thing of "go to this website with hidden super secret password to get an infodump that removes all the mystery" that just makes you stop thinking about it. +just the fun technical shit done to make it
then you got shit like nightmind going "i'd have to interpret this myself and use my brain, but it doesn't tell me yes or no and there's no discord server to steal from so it's disappointing" and everyone running with that, as if being explained things like a child is what makes a story good. so when it didn't end with a "and so and so was the murderer, their reasons were x, y, and z. so sad, here's a list of every character's fates in detail" everyone just decided all of their fun, well thought out and detailed interpretations were pointless because they'd never be confirmed as "the right one".

Night Mind was just insanely bitchy about how long the episodes were taking. Even back then, his comments all pointed that out to him.
I think the Candace Newmaker shit really fucked him. Like, sure it wasn't good taste, but it added an interesting idea to this whole thing.
I saw the creator wanting to do something like an old-school DVD extra menu, where you could interact with the game of PetScop while watching his old footage. I hope he's able to do this.
