Well, here's the thing about Smash Peach: They hit the sweetspot. They allowed her to kick ass and be a complete and utter girl about it.
She's out there getting bombarded, gonna beat your ass with a frying pan, and then with a big earnest smile, give you a cup of tea afterward. She doesn't need to hold up any damn karate hands, She'll beat you with kindness and a golf club.

In other news, Rayman has yet to respond to this success story. I’ll keep you guys updated if there are any new developments.

Peach was pretty much the hero, she could’ve done everything Mario accomplished (he felt so redundant).
They definitely changed her character to be more of a badass, no question about that. She's not the hero though.

If you think about it, she tried to be the hero but completely failed. She wasn't able to convince the Kong army to join her like she had planned....Mario stepped up and got her the army by fighting DK. On top of that, when she fought Bowser at the wedding, she underestimated him to where he broke free of the ice and sent nuke bill to destroy her whole kingdom. She even lost her ice power by somehow forgetting that she lit King Bombs fuse and got blown up by it, whoops. Had it not been for Mario, she would have lost everything because no matter how badass she was, Bowser is still stronger in terms of strength and army resources. After that she took the support role for Mario got him the star in the final battle, reminded me of Zelda in the final fight of Ocarina of Time.

I admit I was also worried that Peach would be the independent "don't need no man" chick that movies are oversaturated with, but despite her changes she's still pretty feminine and they did a good job with her. She kept encouraging Mario throughout the whole time she was with him, trying to bring him up to be a hero. That was good, and I thought it was really smart of them to give her an actual backstory. She became a capable fighter that puts herself on the front lines because 1) she really really cares about her toads and would rather put herself in harms way than see them hurt and 2) she didn't really have a choice because no one else is capable of fighting for the kingdom....till Mario showed up.

That soundtrack is completely wasted opportunity. The specific scenes that stick out in my mind the most are the two car scenes: The Donkey Kong land one where "Take On Me" is playing, and the Rainbow Road one where it's generic dramatic action scene music. Both scenes just SCREAM Mario Kart music to be added in there, like an updated version of DK Jungle/Parkway 64 and like ANY of the Rainbow Road themes. Why add little audio nods here and there but then don't go big with the rest of the background music?

It's the only dissapointment I have with this movie. Otherwise it's pretty much what I expected and had some fun with it.

Tomb Raider 2018 had that bullshit cliche dialogue independent wahman bullshit. And it also ruined not only Lara as a character but also the Tomb Raider lore just to appease Chinese audiences. This is why it failed hard, it's boring and so cliche'd, as with many other movie or show these days.

Peach in the new Mario movie worked because she was never meant to be a girlboss in the movie (despite her attitude otherwise) and has understand Mario's problems as they've been in the same exact rabbit hole, and the writing and character dynamic is more believable.
