I think the real reason to avoid having a Patreon was for Screenwave to keep as much control of the AVGN/Cinemassacre as possible, a Patreon that goes directly to James would ruin that goal, to the point that i wouldn't be surprised if they lied to Boomer James about how Patreon actually works.
So on top of everything else, James is possibly being scammed by his coworkers. Great.

Was this around the same time he moved? It was a long time ago but I'll have to look back. If I recall correctly he parted with some rarer items in his collection.

I agree most won't make rent money with ad revenue, several can pay the bills with paterons and other similar services, AVGN surely could have netted enough paypigs to make his life easier.
Like others have said, he had such a huge advantage, being able to establish himself as an internet mainstay early on.

Look at another semi-lolcow in the web-comics department. Jeph Jaques started out Questionable Content back in 2003. His art isn't that great and it's a very mediocre comic, but he managed to get a sizable fanbase out of it. He puts out a very consistent stream of comics (M-F practically every week), and rarely takes days off of his schedule. As a result, he clears about 20k a month, and that's a conservative estimate. He at least makes 240k/year pre-taxes, probably closer to 350-450k.

James Rolfe should be making that kind of money, but as Crusty Justy said, they can't pump out content quick enough to justify having Patreon tiers. Between using his time inefficiently, and burnout/poor work ethic, he's leaving a shit ton of money on the table. If he wasn't such an awkward sperg, he could have pivoted to live streaming or he could have had the podcast not be such a complete dumpster fire, but unfortunately for James, you need some charisma to successfully do such a thing.

that just remind me that I saw that one years ago.
One of the worst shit I have seen.
It ends with Jay getting sodomized if I remember.
Which one? Because I only had two as examples.

someone streamed (part of) the audiobook on youtube and is offering some commentary too (to avoid being striked)

this dude mentions something about memes being made because of the book, where can i find those?
Right off the bat I'm not really liking this.
Without having heard all of the book or knowing about James' life, he's criticizing weird things because he would have done differently or whatever?
"I would have put my parents first because they're so supportive of me"
Okay but what does that have to do with James
Even if he's right in the end, it's just annoying when people make shit about themselves for no reason. It's like when people disagree with you over an event that happened to you in your life because it didn't happen to them. Low IQ thought processes.

oh man... i'm there with you, but drewdog said something at the very beginning about memes made because of the book. it seems the memes mock james talking way too much about his wife and they make him look like a cuck or something.

i haven't seen these memes, idk what's he talking about, i'm not a fan of james, i like some of his content. but i'm gathering that his wife being the first person james thanked is something worth talking about.

but idk atm, drew left the book with high school's james and people thinking he is a weirdo with his mustache.

So Tony left Screenwave too? WTF is going on there? Ryan must be totally self-destructing judging by his trooning out.

Tony left Screenwave/Cinemassacre about 2 years ago to strike out on his own to do his Hack the Movies YT show FT.

IIRC, he talked about it on TCT sub when him and Justin were still interacting regularly there.

He must still have some sort of agreement with Ryan because his HtM show uses the old discarded Cinemassacre Rental Reviews set.

Tony's departure from Cinemassacre precedes Newt's firing and the Monster Madness plagiarism scandal, which occurred in 2021.

Newt, who had been a regular cohost/guest on Tony's channel, complained openly about being blacklisted by Tony and his former friends like his ex-gf Crystal. He was apparently no longer welcome on Tony's show anymore even though it had already gone independent.

The smell of Big Ryan's greasy front butt is running even the slobs out.
While the Screenwave slobs are gone, the Nerd is still done for. It's like the scene off of the movie Whiplash where JK Simmons goes to a drummer he's been teaching him throughout the movie and confronts him after seeing his fingers bleeding after no longer playing the drums anymore by saying the two words, "You're done."

I think the making of the movie was actually very stressful and truamatic for James while actually doing it, even if he's probably tried to convince himself otherwise after the fact. We've all heard the rumor (I forget where from) of him shutting down on set multiple times to the point where his friend Kevin Finn had to step in as a director. There's a reason why he's almost never attempted to make more movies afterwards, even ones without a big production like the AVGN movie. On some level he realized he's not cut out for making big movies like that, which was probably pretty soul crushing for someone who's life goal was to make big hollywood movies. That big letdown definitely has definitely bled into his subpar output after the movie. His heart's just not in it anymore. As much as he blames his muh kids for not having enough time, it's actually a good thing that he has them so he has an outlet that doesn't involve film making, which he hasn't really been passionate about post movie unlike his muh kids.

If James had just stayed in his lane making AVGN and making low budget movies with his buddies his current output probably would be much better because he would have never had to deal with the dose of unfortunate reality that was making the movie. I can't blame him for trying though.
I think its probably for the best James isn't in that industry, even though he's a cut above a lot of reviewers still despite his enormous knowledge of film and admitted charisma, I mean he's accomplished far more than anyone his intellect reasonably could considering he was apparently an actual spec-Ed kid as a kid. Considering how exhausted he gets making Nerd videos and the amount of controlling he needs the actual movie industry is far, far more work and demanding than the YouTube business. Even if James got work doing a minor job like set design or even being a camera man for one of thé countless Marvel movies I’d imagine he’d be miserable with the pressure. It’s too much for an autist like him to handle.
