Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

Him: "How are people comparing this to The Last of Us!?"

Yes, because god forbid anyone compare this new Mario movie (which, shockingly for Illumination standards, has more heart and soul) to something as boring and lifeless as The Last of Us and its dumbass HBO series. It's like comparing Cannibal Corpse to Nickelback, it makes no sense.

Miyamoto doesn't even like Paper Mario, I doubt he'd okay anything SMRPG related.
Not to mention Nintendo would have to give a cut to Square to use the characters and it's not like Nintendo doesn't have content as is.

Hope they put Wario in the next movie just to spur Nintendo to make a new Wario game. Pizza Tower made me fall in love with that fat fuck all over again.

Pizza Tower alone should be enough to hopefully force a Wario Land 5 (or whatever number it would be since Shake It! exists). If Nintendo doesn't decide to do the thing they did with Crypt of the Necrodancer/Legend of Zelda and offer the indie devs an opportunity to just use Wario outright in Pizza Tower DLC or something.

I still want to know, who will voice Yoshi in the next movie? And will Birdo be included as well?

I know of course that Yoshi can communicate in English as he leaves Mario a note in Yoshi's Island but man I hope he just makes his normal game noises.

Yoshi's intelligence always came off as something akin to a horse or dog, yeah they're super sentient in Yoshi's Island being capable of delivering Mario & Luigi back to their parents. But Yoshi's Island is presented as a children's book not the actual story in thr grand Mario Lore.

I really hate my autistic self for seriously writing a paragraph on fucking Mario lore. But what can you do. I'll pray to God Birdo stays in Mario Kart as otherwise they'll have to hire a troon and we really don't need that.

Except for the Mario World from DiC, where Yoshi does kinda talk English, albeit a bit broken. I wouldn't mind Yoshi still making noises like in the games. So yeah, I vote Kimiko Glenn as Yoshi.

That's a real shame, Paper Mario has great stories that can work in a movie.

Also if Wario gets introduced, they should bring in the WarioWare cast as well as like his cronies or such. Would love to see Jimmy T. bust out some moves in 3D. jimmy-t-warioware.gif

I don't know if they would I know geno is public domain. That said I don't know if they would want public domain characters in a modern film

Ehh, Universal is like any other big name company, using public domain characters they use, but cannot let anyone use the studio's likeness. Remember, Universal has their monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy or Invisible Man, most based off public domain stories.

That's why Miyamoto hates them IIRC. He thinks they're too story oriented.

Honestly, though, I don't know why people seem to think a sequel is going to want to go with a deeper plot or whatever. This film was pretty light, which worked great. I can't see them going in a different direction for a sequel.

Also how is Geno public domain?

I am autistic but not autistic enough to research Geno's rights. All I know for certain is that Geno made a cameo in the original Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and Square got a credit for that. In the 3DS remake they didn't use him.

I believe Geno still belongs to Square. So yeah unless they did a full blown remake of Super Mario RPG I think Geno's future is just being a Mii Costume in Smash Bros.

But yeah it would be fun in a sequel Mario & Peach strike a peace deal with Bowser and he joins their RPG Party. I was kinda hoping with Bowser and DK in New York there would have been a silly Godzilla moment.

I could be misremembering then because it's from that same credit screen I thought I saw him as listed as public domain

Would they ever adapt the first Mario RPG to film or at least a story inspired from it?

I'd personally like a film adaptation of Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, that would give Luigi more screen-time, however the main problem with adapting any Mario RPG to film is, how would you compress the story of 15-hour long game into 90 minutes?

As much as i would like to have any Mario RPG adapted, i'll be happy with just having Wario and Waluigi in sequel or spin-off.

Had a chance to see it today. a 3:30 showing with only a dozen or so adults present so I didn't have to hear it from children. For what it is, it's a stupid fun kids movie and I can't fault it for being that. I'll say I liked the story, it felt like the Mario I could've done a fanfic of 30 years ago, though the brothers' mom would be dead and the father is concern of the kind of occupation his sons want to do.

What's with this misinformation lol? Miyamoto isn't even a producer in the Paper Mario games. He suggested something because of feedback from Super Paper Mario, but he hasn't been hands on any Paper Mario game's development since Thousand Year Door.

In what universe does Miyamoto need to be hands on with a game in order for him to not like them or to think they're too story oriented? The fact that he hasn't even have a hand in Paper Mario in damn near two decades speaks more to what I said than anything else...

My main point is that people who think anything from Super Mario RPG is going to show up in a Mario movie sequel are delusional at best though. If he doesn't even care about Paper Mario why would he suddenly care about SMRPG enough to okay it being in a film? When there's plenty of his own shit for him to pull from that won't be tied into Square?

The next movie will also be pretty simple. Probably something like Wario invades because he wants to steal all the treasure in Peach's castle. They need to get help from another Kingdom, so we can get Daisy in there. Then Waluigi starts going after her, so Luigi has to learn to stand on his own two feet to save her. Throw in some backstory about Peach and Daisy being lost kids from Brooklyn, and there you go.
