Weird conflicting reports of staff involvement. Insane letters that contradict the popular understanding of events. Chat transcripts that debunk other chat transcripts. DeagleDad sock accounts. New users who only post in this thread, and only when there's something confusing that needs to be summarized.

If I suspect that some or all of this part of some larger ruse, is that paranoid or optimistic?

I'm honestly confused. If that is what Jan is sought to achieve, he has done commendably well. I'm sitting here and scratching my head an feeling like I missed a piece of the puzzle. Or most of it.

What? Just what provoked that? Why the 180 turn from how he used to be? Why does he suddenly decide he hates the farms, something he eagerly and willfully contributed too for months, even extending his adminship outside his niche subforum and contributing to others? Why does he suddenly decide he hates Null over seemingly nothing, and going as far as to address him like some kind of comic book villain? Why the different accounts? Why does he keep saying he's done, he hates this place, then coming back? Why the bizarre streams and jokes I can't decipher? Why the hugely conflicting messages over what he plans to do? Why the confusing slipping in and out of character? What impact could he possibly intend to have?

Sure, it's made me laugh a bit. It's made me curious. But mostly it's just made me incredibly confused, like I am missing half the puzzle. Is what Jan's goal? If it is, he's done quite well.

For a while, I wondered if he was simply going to repeat a jace, but with a new character. "I convinced you I was a cow once, i'm going to do it again. I'm going to ruse you all all over again." I thought he would start with strange postings, bizarre non-sequitur streams, and confusing mixed messages - then in a convincing way descend into madness and fool us all again. If anyone could do that, he could. If there ever was a person who really was just pretending to be exceptional, it was him.

As this stretches on though, it becomes increasingly clear that isn't the case. What is the case though? How the hell am I supposed to know.

So a sperg is pretending to be a sperg pretending to be a sperg to troll another sperg to impress his fanbase of spergs?

Jan is having a mental breakdown, or Null is trying to save face with an incredibly fabricated lie, or they're in on a ruse together.

Which one sounds the most likely?

I'd like to believe Jan is just acting here and it's for some future comedic payoff.

I mean it's pretty meta but I guess it's a decent way for a known Internet comedian to get people believing his comedic persona is real again.

Edit:
@balcolm reasoning makes more sense, oh well I'm looking forward to the :ruse: regardless.

Since this is the second post on a new account it makes me wonder if this is actually Jan, apologies if not.

idk how Jan figured out I was the one who locked him out of the @DeagleDad420 account when I saw that his sycophants were archiving PMs between DD and forum members to dig up content on us. Maybe he does have a staff member on his side who could check the edit history or IP addresses. I was doing it to protect the site and our userbase. More importantly, I just want to clarify that @KingofManga420 had nothing to do with it and wants nothing to do with this drama. His only wish is that Jan would leave him alone.

was going to drop it after that ridiculous pm, but the security and privacy concerns of forum users are my biggest priorities. this is probably the last thing i'll have to say about jan unless he really causes problems.

wishes Jan would never mention him ever again.
if you're currently in talks with jan, keep in mind he:

1. lied to thousands of people for two years and was only found out because robert fucked up,
2. went on to destroy king of manga, his biggest fan who followed dn since the beginning, just because jan thought he was an annoying fanboy,
3. has decided to dedicate this entire week to flipping out at me over a $10 domain name,
4. has doxed numerous people and holds dox on people like @hats for a rainy day,
5. manipulated Glaive into making him videos and then, immediately after, laughed to his face about rob fucking his internet girlfriend (then posted the logs and mocked him more) when all Glaive wanted was to help with this "season",
6. has, in this week alone, lied to all of his fans helping him that he wants no drama here and wants nothing to do with this place while telling a different skype group of "stonecutters" that he wants me to literally beg for him for mercy,
7. gave his @DeagleDad420 account to @Ivan Komarov, @hats, @Enig, @Sammy, @austinweiss13 and others with instructions to record and search through all PMs he received while admin to find dirt on users so he can blackmail and troll them,
8. suffered real-world brain damage from a car accident concussion and has not behaved the same since then.

i've had to come out and say this only a few times in our forum's history, but i've never been wrong in the end.
i tell people: "I can't control what you do, but don't do this".

Jan has spent this first week of his return systematically lying to, alienating, and ridiculing all of his old friends for no discernible reason. It is staff's opinion that anyone involving themselves in his efforts are at risk of being blackmailed and attacked. If you want to trust your time and privacy to a chronic liar and 'rusemaster' on the vague promise of funny jokes, you're a fool. He's not your friend. Entrusting DeagleDad with access to the admin control panel was probably one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made.

I didn't follow Jace much in the near the end (I think I dropped off a bit before the gamergate stuff) because it had become to obvious, and well, I didn't really have the time.

That said, was the car accident he recorded real? And he just added the bit about Wu in? The only time I ever saw that was on that awful SyFy show. Side note: I can't believe they acted like Jace was real on that show.

The car accident was actually real and Jan had pictures of himself lying in an ER stretcher as Jace. Very interesting if this recent behavior is related to a traumatic brain injury or something.

Ah. I was thinking part of the lack of funny might be sobriety. I thought he had mentioned before something about getting sober. Maybe I misread something about his rehab and assumed he meant something that he didn't. If he did have a problem with that though, I mean nothing bad about it. It would be hard to go back into the same character without falling back into the same mindset.

what kind of mental gymnastics do you need to go through to actually believe this. glaive made videos over a year ago for jan that never got used because season 3 was aborted prematurely, jan ended up using one of glaive's year old videos as a joke in a promo. glaive didn't want to help this season, glaive is barely even online anymore and didn't know about season 3 until a few days after it started. as for jan "laughing to his face" about rob fucking his ex-girlfriend, no, that never happened. i'm not sure if you're getting this from glaive or if you're just trying to put the pieces together and doing a poor job at it, but this isn't what happened.

also, i feel it note-worthy to mention that jan had no involvement in the catfishing of kom, in fact he actually advised us to not mess with him.

This is my theory as well. Seemed like Jan was pretty chill about the ruse being blown in the final video, now his personality is super obnoxious -- it doesn't add up. My guess is Null isn't in on the rise.

I'll keep my suspicions quiet from here on out and play along so as not to spoil anything.

A lot of this falls into the ruse cruise realm.

Here are the things I'm mostly certain about
  • Jan legit had a car crash on an icy road.
  • After getting out and full of adrenalin he decided to record a Jace video while they waited on the wrecker and ambulance
  • He was legit in the hospital and suffered a concussion and possibly other brain related injuries
Here is conjecture
  • A lot of Jace content was stopped, either because of his brain injuries or a growing lack of interest in continuing the character
  • Jan has content Deagle Nation content from before and after the accident, but didn't release it for reasons
Here is Rusing
  • During Season 2, Jan still came here as The Writer / DeagleDad420 and said in chat that he took copious drugs as character research
  • However he later said that he was straight edge and everything he took was fake and played up
  • He then claimed to have gone to rehab for drugs after saying he was straight edge
  • But he also said he attended physical rehab, was in college, and was done playing the character
In conclusion: No one knows the full story except for Jan and maybe a couple of his friends helping with the recent content. Not that it really matters or anything, it's just better not to assume anything is fact unless it can be explicitly verified.

All I have to say is I don't understand the new videos. I don't know whether this is real or fake drama, but it makes me think the whole situation is kind of "ring rust" on Jan's part: I may be wrong but he hasn't really done shit in like a year and a half.

I partly agree and partly disagree with the concussion theory. I agree insofar as the car accident and concussion probably was responsible for the sudden dramatic drop in activity. I think it's also probably indirectly responsible for the "reveal"; not that he leaked the old MDE video, but that his usual intense level of information warfare was lacking. Not having properly controlled the situation early off, it spiraled and became uncontrollable. I suspect that failure may have resulted from the concussion aftereffects, particularly when you consider just how good he was before. The credibility of the evidence isn't the issue for me; he had kept a lot of stuff suppressed for a long time and should've been able to bury the old MDE video before it got linked to his Steam account. You can also probably blame the failure to keep producing new content: People suddenly had time and interest to go back over old stuff and draw connections, rather than analyzing new content. Additionally, just looking at the tone, tenor, and quantity of content post-concussion, there is a distinct change.

As to now, I don't think we can blame the concussion or lingering effects. Bear in mind something like 18 months have passed. While the effects of concussions, let alone more serious brain injuries, can last a lifetime, let's face facts: People change over time. Young adults especially. The effects of these changes get mitigated by people in the same social group because they're gradual and adjustment is continuous, but also because the group members are a source of experiences themselves. To my understanding, Jan hasn't produced much of anything in the interim. You just get rusty after a year. It's not like Jan's been in a time capsule this whole time, doing nothing but watching old DN videos—and even if he had been, he'd probably still develop in a different direction than we'd expect. In short, when you hear the sound of hoofbeats, don't think it's a zebra.

I have no opinion as to whether the hostility is real or fake. I'm more of the opinion that it's kind of boring.

I do feel like Jan's frustration with the Jace "persona" is believable: It's reminiscent of what happened to Andrew 'Dice' Clay. Everyone just wanted to hear his dirty nursery rhymes, and he began to see shades of 'Dice' in his real-life persona. He was sick and tired of seeing the nursery rhymes kill and any of his new material bomb, and the "personality contamination" is a frightening experience. I feel like Jan may have experienced something like that, especially given just how many hours he surely had to spend in-character on a weekly basis (I seem to recall him or the guy who played Tyce alluding to that in the farewell video).
