If you enter Rick's email adress into haveibeenpwned.com it shows that the address appearing in a user data leak from the Gemini exchange.
One of the pests also tried signing up Rick for Coinbase only to be shown that the mail adress is already in use.
Both sites require complying with KYC laws which means they not only want to see a picture of ID but also a recent proof residence like a bill.

So yeah, maybe Rick really did have a anonymous troll root thru his trash for useable paperwork but if he really had accounts at least two exchanges it looks really bad.

It's unlikely but you can have accounts and not have them be ID verified, they're basically useless until you do though.

This "swatting" was a welfare check. You apparently don't even need to call an emergency line to get one done, and it's unlikely there will be any consequences even if it's bunk because it's such a minor police activity assumed to have been summoned in good faith. Literally anyone could've called it in using their own number with little risk of repercussions.

Regardless, it's absolutely not difficult for Fatrick to get his hands on another rent-a-swatter's number. I feel it is worth noting that it must have been, or perhaps still is, possible to sign up an email for coinbase and create an account without any extra verification initially. You can't actually use it for anything like conducting transactions without satisfying the requirements you have mentioned (and confirming the email), but ofc the email address will already be in use if someone tries signing it up again.

Torswats said he called a veterans crisis hotline and they called the cops. This was after Milwaukee PD stopped responding to regular calls to the police.
