Derek Chauvin's police badge will be destroyed, and his badge number — 1087 — will never be assigned to another Minneapolis police officer, officials said Thursday.

Chauvin, the former cop serving a sentence of more than 22 years for the 2020 murder of George Floyd, returned to the public psyche Thursday after the City Council approved settlements of two lawsuits against Chauvin stemming from incidents three years before he encountered Floyd.

In both 2017 incidents, police body cameras captured Chauvin kneeling on the neck of an unarmed person — images hauntingly similar to how he killed Floyd.

The settlement, combined with the anticipated release of the footage from each 2017 arrest, provided the occasion for Mayor Jacob Frey and Police Chief Brian O'Hara to announce what Frey called a "symbolic but important" attempt to purge the city of Chauvin's legacy.

"The Minneapolis police has a tradition to recycle the badge numbers that are no longer assigned to a current officer," O'Hara said at a news conference following approval of the settlements. "This badge, betrayed and so egregiously dishonored, will be destroyed, and the badge number permanently removed from our rosters so that no future Minneapolis police officer should have to wear it."

The autopsy: He died of fentanyl and COVID-19, though putting a knee on his neck did not slow his death.

The judge: He's probably gonna win his appeal, but only after this all blows over with the next dumb incident.

The Force: LET'S EFFING RETIRE HIS NUMBER, LIKE HE'S A LOVED BASEBALL PLAYER!

WTF does destorying a badge do? LOL, what is this the Roman Empire now, we gotta do literal damnatio. What a bunch of mental midgets.
It is part of them trying to hide the blame for it cause they fear any accountability for training Chauvin to do EXACTLY THIS SHIT in the situation.
Remember when they disassembled killdozer?
They scattered the parts of a BULLDOZER (lol) to the four winds across America. in hopes no one would ever reassemble it.

A fucking bulldozer lmfao.

So a former officer before Chauvin could have a badge with 1087?
It would have to be way before Chauvin.

You basically get one number for life and will only change if you change departments. So 1087 was probably by someone a long time before Chauvin. Think of it like a Social Security Number - they are recycled but the person that has one typically keeps it for their entire lives.

Something that would have been in the fucking training manual on "How to subdue and maintain control of a unarmed person" in 2017. Absolutely spineless behavior from the city on this one.

That guy was railroaded. It's sickening.

NOTHING about the situation suggested racism was a factor at all, and yet its become the central event of the "anti-racist" cult. Chauvin was one of five cops arresting this man who had fatal levels of fentanyl in his blood, and the other four cops weren't even white.

If the society had any respect for itself, he wouldn't have even been charged.
