Why would the jannies get paid anything? They're volunteers, not employees. (They've also made clear they get nothing and Nepenthe in particular gets very angry if you suggest she should be paid for her extensive unending labor.)

The one lone tech guy is/was getting paid because Cerium contracted with him and MOBA likely had to respect the contract until it ends or buy him out.

For the record, MOBA's "business" is buying stuff like forums then aggregating the number of "members" in their "network" and then selling this number to investors as something that will eventually lead to huge profits. You can go on one of their other forums about some MMO and see how it progressively fell into irrelevance because the staff left, nothing (including technical issues) was getting addressed and it went from solid activity to the same five people posting alone. They probably don't give a shit what happens on Era as long as the ad money keeps flowing in and they claim the users (banned or not) as part of their networks audience. If it dies off in a few years, eh, whatever, they've probably already made more than $3 million off of it and they'll always be able to use it as a claimed "asset" in their portfolio until they acquire enough other shiny new stuff to displace it. I think the sell-off point is eventually just selling the entire "network" to someone else who won't realize or care that it's 99% worthless. This is still a sore spot and in a way darkly humorous but I found out my wife was seeing a guy behind my back recently and at the risk of empathizing with a Reetard it's really not as simple as just cutting and running.
