TBH, although I get why any number of people continually saying "WHY AREN'T YOU TALKING ABOUT THIS!??!?" would get annoying very fast, I've been puzzled for a while about why you think this thread is chock full of people shouting "noseguard!!" at you.

There's maybe like 2-3 people I've seen complain regularly about that and the main one is the one you quoted.
Well, there's also been idiots in the MATI chat doing it too. I cringed the times I saw that because I knew (from years of being here) that that's just gonna cause unnecessary acrimony.

Like I said earlier (in response to the same person, in fact), I figure it will either be discussed, or it won't, and I have no intention of pressing the matter. My enjoyment of this site as a whole does not rise or fall depending on whether "my favorite cow" is being discussed on MATI, or becomes featured in happenings. To the contrary, I usually listen to MATI to catch up on the shit that I DON'T have time to read about. MATI is where I get like 95% of a my Ethan Ralph news now. The entire Gunt subforum is a bit of a bear to read.

And honestly, I think Null has been critical of Rekieta ("PULL UP!" etc.), so the "noseguarding" accusations seem really off-base to me.

Most people on the thread expressed disappointment when Nick bailed on him a little while ago.
Yeah, that was bullshit. I was genuinely looking forward to watching/listening to that show. All previous Null/Rekieta collabs have been great.

I think part of the problem with it not being funny is that we're all still seeing this similar to Josh. Nick had nearly 5 years of good terms with the farms so it's more like watching a friend start self destructing their life while we tell him to pull up before it gets worse.
Yeah. Feeling the exact same way. As a long time Nick watcher, the thread is starting to wear a little thin. I have to flip through a-logging, video flagging, personal crusading, and Mutt’s Law posts to actually get to some gold.

My feelings about Nick are, “dude, are you OK? We need to drive you home”, while simultaneously laughing at and with him.

Not to mention he's the only one that's come out and admitted to trying to get Nick's videos flagged like a fucking retard and was subsequently chastised into submission by the entire thread (besides @Cynthia Behave but does she even count?).

I agree with the grand-janny that this thread is mostly unfunny though. We need to step up our humor. Maybe more memes calling Nick fat? I don't know, I'm horrifically unfunny.

Women are incapable of comedy... Sorry..

Not really, it would defeat the purpose if people knew their responses were being documented in the national database. They would be more guarded and much more likely to hide their addiction. Most people inadvertently find out when their doctor starts to ween them off of their medication after their second incident. They will start them on something less addictive to replace it with before they start tapering off their medication. If they flip out or state a preference it just confirms their drug seeking behavior, if they don’t make a fuss they just get moved on to a different drug without realizing why. People addicted to opioids will get transitioned over to buprenorphine once they start showing signs of abuse, but it happens while they are still receiving opioids so they don’t even notice
it’s happening until they start decreasing the amount and strength. Since they are addicted they don’t really want to rock the boat, so they tend to be amicable to the new medication considering it an added bonus. Then the doctor asks them how the new drug is helping them, and they will usually lie just to humor the doctor. The doctor uses that response to gradually reduce the amount and dosage, whether its good or bad the outcome is inevitable.

I know GPs in the UK say 'Take this!' and people pretty much do without questioning it. There are also laws against pharmaceutical marketing to patients in advertising. People are relatively lower-information about medication, and it is interesting to see a bit of the same in the DEA and NOT the regular American medical practice.

I am not going to debate the merits of either system, but one would hope that in a low-informstion system that the experts would be more responsible and knowledgeable than not. I understand the argument for keeping rubes out of the process to some degree, but there are pitfalls on both sides

Pro tip: if you want Null to talk about your favorite lolcow drama of the week you should post it in the MATI thread.
It seems I actually care about it a lot less than Null does, who felt the need to come in and defend himself against accusations no one really made. He didn't mention the GriftSendGo. That isn't an accusation of noseguarding, it's just a statement of fact.
Seems like lolcow disorder is infectious.

Reflecting back on this thread since November, I think the funniest parts have been Nick's Locals crowd.

Nick himself is definitely descending deeper into cowdom, but some of those people hit bedrock years ago. I don't think this thread would have moved as fast as it has but for @Himedall All-seeing Waifu's script running.

I don't watch MATI either, just Elissa. From the small amount of MATI she provided, it is definitely not for me. The weird adolescent sounding voice alone is more than enough to put me off let alone the content.

Most of the prescription drugs with potential for abuse in the US are decades old with expired patents, so they are available as generics without any direct-to-consumer advertising having occurred for years.

Modern American TV now is full of ads for diabetic meds, biologic drugs for autoimmune diseases, boner pills and the odd depression pill without addictive properties (for now).

OMG! Kiwi FARMS IS DANGEROUS! We need to GAY OP them!
They should be happy that their a-log has somewhere else to vent and work out their frustrations other than their forums... at least for as long as we are willing to put up with their a-logging.

No one here is going to join them on their gay ops against Nick. We are just going to tell them that their idea is gay and autistic.

So a few people like to talk smack and gossip about Nick. Big deal. Nobody cares. In fact the unsubstantiated gossiping about Nick is primarily what turns people off of this thread.

Let people burn themselves out or go full Monty.

Someone in this thread speculated upon how Mandy had such a blemish free body when she was a slight framed woman allegedly doing a labor intensive job. (This may have been before Cynthia disclosed that Mandy admitted to posting pics that were over ten yrs old) Subsequently, after admitting on Locals to reading the thread, Mandy posted a photo of a bruise on her hip, claiming the bruise had happened at work.

Around the time just before or during the Rittenhouse trial Mandy said in Nick’s YT chat that she was a waitress at Hooters.
I recall back in the day (I don't remember exactly when, but long before her starting the tit-posting avalanche, and significantly before Rittenhouse), Mandy stating explicitly in chat that she started her mechanic career well into her adult life, and that at some point before then she had been a Hooters waitress. No exact timelines were given but at least her story's been consistent for a long time. And it's a safe bet those paleolithic cellphone pictures represent the earlier pert, pre-greasemonkey, era.

At the risk of power levelling here, I used to work in addictions research -- a lot of it would be ethnographic stuff, so I had a lot of contact with people who were benzo dependent. This woman is so typical of the benzo dependent people I dealt with. A heroin addict loses their source of supply, they're kind of used to it and tend not to have much of a problem getting a new connection.

But benzo dependent people were invariably dependent on prescribed drugs. When their doctor realized that they had a patient with a problem, they would inevitably make the decision to cut off their source of supply -- and the combination of panic and anxiety that this woman is displaying is absolutely typical. They get really frantic -- it's almost as if somebody's told them that the world is about to end, and so they'll run around like headless chickens, squawking at anybody who will listen about how critical it is that they get their prescription sorted out.

Best practice guidelines suggest that benzos shouldn't be prescribed for longer than 2-4 weeks. Here's a good summary of the issues involved for GP's in prescribing benzos.

You were right.

It looks like the end of the long tragic tale is that they will be giving her 60 tablets with instructions to try to work down to fewer per day.

She is also on a list. I assume the DEA thing? Maybe just her medical record.

Why do people seem to think that you are supposed to just keep taking these medications? The goal is to get off most of them as soon as you can.

When did modern chicks (I'm sorry 'strong, independent women') become interminable medicated? The fact that the medical system will seemingly pay for this indefinitely makes it seem like a racket.

I took a few corner store painkillers for my latest hand injury, and I hated that. I do not understand...

Most people his age would just go out fishing or hunting with their friends. Maybe try out some off-roading if they happen to live in the area where that would be encouraged. Maybe pick up guitar.
With the Mustang he bought, and his apparent lack of driving ability, Nick may be off-roading soon enough, albeit involuntarily.

It looks like @Mordecai "3 Finger" Brown nailed it:
If you say no and there's a bad outcome, in theory you were the last medical provider in the chain whom they had contact with.

So the weakass middle road solution is to give them a few days bridging supply and kick the can down the road so the whole scenario will play out again when they run out, but at least hopefully with someone else.

Emotions replaced by drug fugues. Eating is the common way to get the same effect.

Its been going on for decades. The Rolling Stones even wrote "Mother's little helper" about in 1965. The medication of women seemed to really take off when Valium became available in the early 1960s. But even before that there was Miltown starting in the mid-1950s which was specifically marketed at women through TV programs. There may even be stuff earlier than that but I don't know.

The DEA Blacklist/PMP InterConnect is included with your medical record. It’s basically a warning tied to your social security number to let doctors know if you have a history of drug seeking behavior, abusing painkillers or anti-anxiety medication. They mostly use it to make sure doctors don’t accidentally prescribe you something that conflicts with other medications. Especially since you aren’t supposed to mix opioids and benzos because it has the risk of fatally slowing down your heart, but it also operates like a Red Flag registry for junkies. Otherwise doctors could prescribe you painkillers, and then a psychologist could prescribe Xanax for mental health reasons and accidentally kill you. I wonder if she is one of Sally’s acolytes that learned exactly what to say to get doctors to prescribe you Xanax? Guess she never told her not to take more than the dosage on the label because they heavily track that shit, reputable clinics that prescribe narcotics expect you to have the exact amount available and ready for a pill count. Well thanks to Sally’s guidance (or lack thereof) she has permanently ruined her reputation and will be treated like a degenerate junkie from now on. Clinics will treat her like shit, and second guess every ailment she complains about from this point forward.

You don't know the half of it. The US has more of a medical industry than a medical system. If someone has an issue then, depending on their insurance, the options range from getting numerous unnecessary tests done to getting drugs thrown at them until they shut up about it. Here's a UK doctor speaking on it:

As for prescription meds, one recent example I can think of is the shortage of Adderall that's going on right now. During the covid lockdown, new online companies started up with the intention of diagnosing people with ADHD in order to hand out prescriptions, causing the demand to skyrocket. So now it's a situation of people getting hooked on stimulants and then suddenly aren't able to find it at their pharmacy.

Haven't checked, but with both parents having sixheads do all their kids look like Frankenstein's Monster with the gigantic foreheads? Born halfway to being bald is no way to live.

Look at all the filth piled up all over the place in the background. A cluttered mess.

The look on her face, contempt, disgust, regret. That she married this sad excuse of a man after having much better dick before she met him. Thinking to herself. "I could have done so much better."
