As others mentioned, EA announced last month they were laying off 6% of their employees. There is no way they renewed her, I bet she simply just found out rather than was fired:

She said "no longer working at [...] though technically employed until May," which suggests one of two options: Either they told her they're not renewing her contract so she's decided that she'll be doing even less work than she normally does, or they actually walked her out and revoked her access but they're still obligated to pay out the remainder of her contract.

It's Becky, so either option seems entirely possible.
