Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

I definitely wouldn't say I'm excited for it. I'm curious about it.
This is where I'm at.

I'm in the camp that thinks these trailers have been underwhelming and I'm not seeing what the hype is about, but I still enjoyed BotW 5 years ago so I'll probably play it eventually unless people tell me it's complete dogshit or only lasts like 10 hours.

I could see being hyped if someone didn't play BotW, the last trailer looked great if you don't know what you're actually getting.

Right. That's what I mean I guess.

Like I think even if it was mostly a retread of BOTW I'd enjoy it simply because I played BotW 5 years ago and couldn't bring myself to play it again after doing all the shrines. So it's not like it's fresh in my mind.

Someone who hasn't played it at all I could see being hyped. But people who have been playing it continuously for like 6 years now? I don't get it.

Oh god one of these people.
Not inaccurate though. Nintendo thrives on weird gimmicks that no one else thought to try; their failures tend to be when they bet on the wrong gimmicks, like doubling down on motion controls on the Wii U when people were already burned out on them. They generally try to bring in new ideas - for better or worse - while everyone else focuses on how many terafarts per millishit the new GPU can handle.

That being said, hybrid is already a universally appealing gimmick, and I don’t think a Switch 2 would need to be much more than “the Switch but better”. And they’re limited in what new gimmicks they could use anyway since they would need to work on both console and handheld.

Another day, another underwhelming Indie World.
I had to look up what this was, full game list here: https://www.dekudeals.com/featured/nindie-world-2023-04-19

Yeah it's all really really INDIE looking. I like cats but isn't that a weird number of games with cats? The Jet Set clone is interesting, in the sense that it's interesting that somebody did that but I'm probably not going to look at it.

Better to do your own research with indies than rely on official prolefeed. Game journos and official channels won't promote visionaries like Tentacled Terrors Tyrannize Terra!: https://www.nintendo.com/store/prod...ies-tentacled-terrors-tyrannize-terra-switch/

Don't forget the Virtual Boy, the red-and-black eyestrain causer.

Assume it runs in Dock power mode
I still don't think that'd be enough. The addition of a Pro Controller as the default could arguably boost it, but I don't think the concept on its own is enough to sell this late into the Switch's life cycle. The Lite came out barely 2 years after the original console's release and was already questionable; releasing a standalone Docked version six years in would probably confuse people further unless it was like 100-150 bucks or something

Are those bendable screens viable? I remember seeing them. That'd be a neat gimmick,

Do you think Nintendo could give the Switch a last hurrah by stripping out the screen, battery, and joycons and making it a really cheap traditional console that ships with a Pro controller?
Sony tried that for the Vita with the Playstation TV, I don't think it did very well

It’s like the AVGN said: “[VB Wario Land] is a damn good game, only one problem… it’s on the Virtual Boy.”

I don’t know, that feels more like a phone thing. Isn’t the idea that you can expand something that fits in your pocket into a slightly bigger screen? I think it would be kinda neat, but not exactly a selling point. And aren’t those phones way more fragile, with no option to buy a case? I’ve never had one.

PAPER MARIO PC PORT HERE WE COME BABYYYYYY
:woo:
This is pretty good news, even though still wish Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door was ported to the Nintendo Switch. Either way, I won’t complain about this one, since the N64 version is pretty good.

The Playstation Vita itself wasn't a commercial success in the first place, SIE didn't support it much, and games on it were the niche kind (even if I liked them).
And the PSTV model was also a half-assed effort such as leaving the LiveArea menu (an UI primarily designed around touch screen controls) the same as it originally was. It was pretty cheap to get one brand new until the homebrew exploits became widespread for FW 3.60 and above.

the Vita didn't particularly sell well itself. and it was upscaling from 540p. The switch already works as a TV console, a Switch TV could make it really cheap, like the $150 range.

if it comes out when Nintendo starts adding Switch games to the $20 Nintendo Selects program, it could make a lot, especially in countries where most people couldn't afford the regular Switch,

I hope whoever works on the port isn't a retard discord larper like the clowns that are working on the Ocarina of Time port. They lock it all behind their discord, and do this big larp about the CDI zelda games for some reason. The actual non-retard port got abandoned because nobody was working on it, instead just using the larper one. I think they also tried to cancel the lead dev of the openoot one for some reason or another.
