Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

Is it enough for a community watch? Or has all the drama dried up now that they bullied openOOT out of the picture?
Nah, it was maybe enough at its peak, but definitely not anymore.
I really wish OOT got as many ports as Mario 64 did. We don't have RTX for OOT because of the hoops required to do anything with SoH source*. Mario 64 has a bunch of different ports and a fancy launcher to build custom versions and a mod loader and everything, while OOT has a single port controlled by power hungry discord larpers
The PC port of Mario 64 is easy to build, but everything else is a chore. You’re better off digging through archive.org and hoping that someone already compiled it for your system of choice.
For what it’s worth, SoH has some mods built-in and it’s open source so people can still mod it themselves.
Finally bought myself a Switch, planning to make either Smash Ultimate or Super Mario Party my first game, but other than those, what other games would you kiwis recommend??
Since no one else has mentioned it, get Kirby and the Forgotten Land and/or Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe. The former is the first full 3D Kirby and immediately became a fan favorite, while the latter is a greatly improved remaster of what was already one of the best games in the series.

WarioWare Get It Together is good, Clubhouse Games is surprisingly fun (I think there’s a demo). Tetris 99 and Pac-Man 99 are both free exclusives. If you like musou/warriors games, Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition is fun and has a ton of content. And if you like Pokemon, then Legends Arceus is a fresh take on the formula if you don’t mind low framerates and barebones visuals, and the first Mystery Dungeon got a good remake.

It’s like the AVGN said: “[VB Wario Land] is a damn good game, only one problem… it’s on the Virtual Boy.”

I don’t know, that feels more like a phone thing. Isn’t the idea that you can expand something that fits in your pocket into a slightly bigger screen? I think it would be kinda neat, but not exactly a selling point. And aren’t those phones way more fragile, with no option to buy a case? I’ve never had one.
I think they have tablets too, which is essentially what Switch is with joycons attached. You're probably right though, I bet it's very fragile.

If they could implement it for gameplay somehow it might be cool, but probably pretty limited in application. You could use it to bend the game world or something but I can't think of much beyond that.

Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4 are on the Switch, but 1 and 2 aren't, which is retarded. The games after the Cold Steel series are also on the Switch (Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure) are on the Switch but you need to play Cold Steel first. Nintendo and NIS fucked this up.

I completely forgot about Kirby somehow, seconding those games absolutely. Worth noting that Deluxe has better multiplayer (four players with a shitload of minigames and a lot of character choice compared to Forgotten Land's 2 players with 0 choice of character) but both are incredible adventures in their own right and are must-buys. Skip Star Allies; Deluxe does everything it was trying to do but way better lol.

Clubhouse Games is multiplayer-focused (a minigame collection), both 99s are exclusive to Nintendo Online and multiplayer-exclusive, and Legends Arceus should only be bought with lots of asterisks (either on sale or if you have a lot of money to spend). It's pretty fun, but it is objectively poorly made (graphics are dogshit, framerate is unstable, cut a lot of content from the main series to justify the new gameplay loop and experimentation (which I think went somewhat well), very very rough around the edges) and should not be used as replacement for a mainline game if you want one of those.
And if you want a mainline Pokémon game, stay away from the Switch's entries lmao. Go buy any game other than Sword/Shield or Scarlet/Violet instead. Any game. Both are content-bare messes with very little to do and SV specifically are also incredibly glitchy and not worth full price in the slightest. Even Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon are better.

Lol, the person I was defending here rated me autistic.
...
What an autist.
one-sentence meme replies don't contribute anything and when they're used in that context they're just confusing, hence the react

I've talked a lot of shit about the Advance Wars reboot, and now that I've sunken some time into it, it's time for me to eat that shit because I actually generally like the Advance Wars reboot, and think it does enough to set itself apart to be worthwhile for even the grumpiest Advance Wars purist.

The presentation is controversial and I'm definitely not going to fault anyone for sneering at the plasticky and cartoony look of everything, and certainly not some of the decisions made in voice actors, but I found myself bothered by it a lot less while actually playing. Wayforward doesn't desecrate the original spirit of the characters at all, and in some cases even make additions that feel completely logical and appropriate.

What really sold me on the game though was the soundtrack and general sound design. Whoever they got working on those aspects seems to understand just how important good music and satisfying aural feedback are to turn-based grid games, and making the music dynamic depending on whether you're in/out of combat, looking at a unit's stats, or have a power activated is very satisfying. Some of the songs are a little Fire Emblem Warriors-y and/or virtual instrument-y (at least one of you will know what the fuck I mean by that, hopefully) but the original games have some dud songs too, and Wayforward usually sticks the landing when it matters. They even put in some of the music from the other Wars games which were never even officially localized, it just drips soul. Combine that with the QoL of having level select, adjustable map zoom, speeding up animations, and AI no longer fucking CHEATING in fog, it all goes a real long way towards making this thing the definitive and most convenient way to play these games.

The pricetag is a hard sell though if you're not already sure you're into Advance Wars, and the mediocre online multiplayer is a massive squandered opportunity. It's going to suck massive balls having to watch Advance Wars die yet again, because I think Wayforward have shown that they care and can be trusted with it. It's not like Intelligent Systems knows what the fuck to do with this series.

Did Days of Ruin do badly? I wanted a follow up to it.
I'm no salesfag, but people sure like to make it sound like Intelligent Systems were on the brink of death until Fire Emblem Awakening came along, which they put so much into specifically because they thought it would be the last one. Apparently Japan didn't even get Days of Ruin until fucking 6 years later on the 3DS, for whatever that's worth.

>Big fat list o'vidya
I agree for the most part, but in some cases new players need to be warned of how terrible the english dub is for some of these games. Trials of Mana takes the cake for this one with the Light-element spirit just flat out being a california faggot, but there are others almost as bad.

That's just zoomers trying to gaslight thraja, who will always be remembered as the 3DS babbey's first waifu and nothing else, as being more important than she really was. "See, SEE?! Awakening isn't a cringey dating simulator, it's a real gaem that saved the company!!1one" and so forth. You must remember that FE spergs are hyper defensive about Awakening because of all the bullying they got over it.
