RWBY - The Hindenburg on which Rooster Teeth rests its hopes, dreams and future

Ah, the cringe is so good with this movie. Batman is an awkward dunce with video game detective vision, Cyborge and Ren are righting over Nora, Yang is thirsting over Wonder Woman's muscles, every line is so bland and characterless and I've just gotten to the bit where Wonder Woman and Blake complain that the rest of the Justice League can never understand them because their lives were so lucky and safe compared to Diana and the RWBY Character's lives.

Do we have any DC fans reacting to this shit show? Because I feel like the reactions are gonna be priceless.

I ain't watching this shit.

How is Wonder Woman's life unlucky. She literally grew up on Themyscira an idyllic island, that used to be called Paradise Island because it was just so fucking great. She's also one of if not the most powerful women on Earth, incredibly beautiful, and has a full supporting cast worth of family, love interests, and friends including the Justice League, some of the most noble and kind people in the DC universe. What more could the universe possibly owe her?

She is also the PRINCESS of said island and was treated as such. It is LOONACY to ever think she suffered growing up. Which actually makes her and Blake one and the same. How the fuck did no one writing this pile of fanfic wank do even the most basic of google searches or apply even the tiniest bit of common sense??

Diana talks about being raised 'as a warrior by other warriors', trained to always be on the lookout for threats, and how none of her team mates can understand what that's like, she relates more to Huntsman. To which Blake explains that this is because the rest of the League are 'lucky', they had childhoods, they don't have to fear that any moment they could be facing death all their lives and don't have to constantly fight just to survive another day.

Note: Blake knows all of jack shit about the league members other than their names and powers.

Also, if I didn't know the RWBY writers were the ones in charge of this, I would have thought this movie hated the RWBY side of the cross-over, because god damn is every one of the character's worse traits amplified. The Justice League characters come off as well meaning and understanding despite the shitty situation, Clark trying his best to keep everyone's spirits up, come up with sound ideas and assure Ruby that he struggles with the same leadership issues as she does, Vixen steps in to keep everyone focused and back everyone up, Bruce is being surprisingly easy-going and patient with Weiss, Jessica is trying her best but is stricken with fear and anxiety over not having her powers and Cyborge, outside of blowing up at Ruby for a second out of stress, is eager to help in any way he can and asking Ren adn Nora for ideas since his tech doesn't really work here.

And the RWBY characters? Stuck up twats who treat every friendly suggestion that isn't from Diana (because she's just like them apparently) as a challenge. Fucking Ren, the calm and disciplined monk character, is getting all "You lookin' at muh girl!?" over Cyborg interacting in any way with Nora. Nora gets pissy at Cyborg for saving her life because she can 'take care of herself', and he apologizes. There's even a part where, after Ruby has consistently dropped the ball and been unable to give orders or plans in the middle of battle while Superman has had no trouble doing so, Clark starts to tell Nora his new plan... So, of course, Nora and Ruby, in the middle of a battle with a giant grimm monster, decide to get on Clark's case for bossing them around and treating them like children. This is RUBY's team, thank you very much, Nora doesn't take orders from him. AND HE ADMITS THAT THEY'RE RIGHT.

The only decent character interactions so far has been Jaune and Jessica as they bond over feeling like useless and traumatized members of the team who aren't special without better people to hold them up. Jaune comforting her over her anxiety issues and feeling she's worthless without the green lantern ring while she explains how it feels for her when she uses her power, it's actually decent and emotional stuff.

Funnily enough, since someone brought up the JLU episode Kid Stuff a few pages back, in that episode, once the League are turned into adults again, Diana says something to the effect that for all the trouble they went through, it was nice to be a kid again. This prompts Batman to respond with, something along the lines of "I haven't been a kid since I was 8 years old". Glad to know that Wonder Woman is not only a whiner, but completely uncharitable to her fellow league members.

So, as the leaks say, Bruce legit considers abandoning his mission, his city and his entire family just because on Remnant he can have Batwings. Christ, imagine Superman and Cyborg trying to explain this to Nightwing. "No, no, he didn't get killed by Darkseid again, he's just a dead beat."

Second plot twist, Bruce figures out that Kilgore, while having developed the situation, was working with another person to create it and said partner trapped Kilgore in there as well. Team RWBY wake up from the simulation in V7, mentioning that this was supposed to be a VR training session and concluding that Kilgore's partner is someone from Remnant. Assuming they're not gonna make a new character and they specify that the mysterious partner is a man, I'm wondering if they're bringing Watts back for this.

Funny enough here is someone saying the exact thing.

Also said person doubles down on their point and another tweet complaining about multiple clips being put on twitter.

I ain't watching this shit.

"Poor me! I'm a princess from an island paradise and was trained to fight like a warrior!"
Can life get any better at that point?
The fact that WW looks like a character of mine in this isn't really dispelling my negative feelings imo.
Vixen I personally like, but they totally just re-used Harriet's model, and her outfit looks like the Fox from that Miraculous show. (idk I don't watch it)

Ruby: I can't stand this life anymore, I'm ready to be someone else.

Summer: But I like you the way you are.

Ruby: Oh well, that instantly solves my 'character arc'. Thanks, Mom. Maybe being perfect is overrated after all...

WYB: If Ruby wasn't perfect we'd probably abandon her.

This entire volume is complete filler. Like, I thought, at the very least, they shoe-horn in some sort of Salem weakness to exploit or mcguffin they'll use in the fight against Salem just to at least pretend there was anything in this volume that advanced the main plot. But no, all we get is the lore dump that the Gods came from the Ever After and then everyone gets teleported to Vacuo "At the time they are needed" where we see that so much time has passed that Vacuo now has a full fleet on standby and any possible fallout of Team RWBY's plan has been completely skipped.

There's so much to unpack about this finale, and it's so ridiculous that RWBY can be taken seriously as a show any more.
Pros:
  • I really do like Summer's Design
  • The crunched animators really did a great job with Ruby coming back. The beginning of the fight scene gave me Monty vibes, and the part where the whole team does the classic anime "finish" did as well. I don't know if it was the music, but that scene just reminded me of original RWBY. I like that the cat uses only his hands (paws) to fight, but still manages to be a very formidable foe.
  • Lol what else is there to like
I feel like the way they decided to handle mental health in this Volume was like two extremes. The one extreme where Ruby kills herself, because she is so mentally broken down that she either wants to die or become anything but herself has incredibly sad implications. The other extreme were Ruby comes back unchanged because "be yourself" is an excuse for literally any wrongs you've committed has very toxic implications. Cinder was being herself when she killed her mentor, Amber, Penny, Pyrrha, Vernal, and all those other unimportant characters. Of course Cinder is not given the same slack as team RWBY is, because she's the villain and not any of the main characters. Ruby is basically unchanged, just like everyone predicted. Yeah, it's sweet that her mom loved her for her. Any good parent will love their children the way they are, but a good parent will also encourage their children to fix themselves, so they can be even better than they were before. I like how this was the established "character" volume, yet any opportunity they got to develop their characters was thrown away. Ruby is literally the same after going through a bad bought of depression, Weiss and Blake are stupid doormats now, with the former just being a joke, and the latter being a damsel in distress, and Yang has just amplified her worst traits. Also fuck Jaune, I'm sick of him being the true main character, even though I was happy that he went back to normal. Like everyone's said, this volume was just a filler, and why the fuck Rooster Teeth would do a filler volume when it's on it's last legs is beyond retarded. Instead of wasting the slim budget, and all the poor animators' livelihoods, they could have just skipped to Vacuo, and generated enough hype for the story to get V10 actually greenlit. I think Miles and Kerry have a fetish for shooting themselves in the foot. Skipping this volume wouldn't leave any gaps in the story, but if you do watch the volume, you'd hypothetically be watching the rest of this damn show with the knowledge that Ruby's friends refused to be there for her at her lowest point. For a show that takes place in a death world, where team bonds are everything, that's horrifyingly sad.

Will there be a volume 10?

So the volume ends, nothing was gained, the heroes wound up right where they should have been anyway, and we got a bunch of backstory that didn't matter at all. Great.
