The games after the Cold Steel series are also on the Switch (Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure) are on the Switch but you need to play Cold Steel first. Nintendo and NIS fucked this up.

Zero and Azure are intended to be played before Cold Steel entirely (as they came out first in JP), though you can play it during CS 1 and 2 as these stories happen roughly at the same time, and you really want to play them before 3 because that party just shows up from nowhere after 2 (or at the very very end) if you don't. The Crossbell arc not being translated for so long was a huge annoyance for anyone not willing to emulate and translate patch Zero and Azure, because CS3 and beyond is fucked without the Crossbell arc's story.

NIS is fucked on this because every other Trails game licensed by Xseed and so you got this huge licensing problem, and both Falcom and NIS are likely too broke to want to bother with that compared to just releasing new product. They tried to pitch CS3 as playable out the gate, but fuck no it isn't because it has two entire different arc's worth of characters showing up in both 3 and 4.

You must remember that FE spergs are hyper defensive about Awakening because of all the bullying they got over it.

FE spergs also despise Awakening's existence (and sometimes every game after it) because of the gay divides within this series because of how much the series has changed over the years. Many FE spergs try to unironically say that FE only became so anime with Awakening, because somehow Ike was not an anime sword guy back on the gamecube with his blue anime hair where one of his closest allies is a twink mage and a twink cat boy with even lighter blue hair, or Lyn with her green ponytail and ample show of leg, or Eirika's miniskirt and Ephriam being a one man army shonen protagonist who pretty much never loses, or just Tiki's entire existene.

I agree for the most part, but in some cases new players need to be warned of how terrible the english dub is for some of these games. Trials of Mana takes the cake for this one with the Light-element spirit just flat out being a california faggot, but there are others almost as bad.

Disgaea 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7

Super Robot Wars T, V, X and 30

I definitely do not recommend Disgaea 6 & 7 as they're severe downgrades from the other games. 6 in particular had many class units removed and a lot less animation skits due of the shift to 3D models, less customization, and the stat numbers were already bloated from lvl 1 (as in, already using three digits). Disgaea 7 is barely better, and I remember playing the japanese demo back in January and still be disappointed (animations remain barebones, even more when units are adjacent, and devs scrapped the combo barometer). If someone wants to try Disgaea on Switch, it's either the first game (which is a remake using the D2 engine), the fourth and fifth entry. Worth to mention that the Switch version of the latter has the online features unlike the PC port.

There is SD Gundam G Generation GENESIS which features the Universal Century universe of Gundam (0079, Zeta, ZZ, Char's Counterattack, Stardust Memory, War in the Pocket, Unicorn, etc.) unlike Crossrays which is tied to alternate Gundam universes, specifically Gundam W and SEED. It's more a matter of which Gundam series the player is more familiar with. Personally, I bought Genesis over Crossrays on Switch. Courtesy from Bamco and copyright licensing though, if anyone wants a Gundam vidya in English on Switch, they'll have to import the Asia English physical.

Lastly, the modern Super Robot Wars (since V) are a mixed bag, but I heavily recommend to avoid SRW30 as it is considerably the worst entry of the serie imho.
I still enjoyed V because of the Yamato 2199 anime franchise used as a main setting in the first Earth dimension as well as T for having a lot of anime franchises I do love (Fighter G Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, Votoms, Arcadia, Gunbuster, Getter Robo Armageddon, GunxSword, Expelled from Paradise, Rayearth). But the modern SRW games have become more fanservice vidya over legitimate tactical strategy vidya, there was a balance between the two sides beforehand.

btw the Anime Sound editions of SRW (which have the copyrighted songs) are limited to the japanese versions, the english asia releases are solely the normal editions. Bamco also made those premium editions of V & X digital-only on Switch, and they've been discontinued long ago. SRW T had at least a physical of the limited edition but it costed me a good hundred bucks to import an used copy from Japan. Unlike the PS4 and PC versions of SRW, you cannot transfer your own custom tracks on the Switch.
Also Bandai Namco is gay to block screenshooting and video clips in their licensed anime games, I have to use my video capture card to get around.

I didn't see Banner of the Maid in your tactical strategy section for Switch, and it's something I did like between the (alternate) french revolution setting and challenging difficulty. I turned off the chinese voices by default and the english TL has some typos. I wish the game had a second route/ending where you prevent the French Revolution from fully happening and side with Marie-Antoinette instead. It's also reasonably priced for someone who wants something alike to a Fire Emblem.

Taiko no Tatsujin Rhythmic Adventure Pack

The "RPG mode" of those two games plays just like a Taiko rhythm title than a full-blown RPG, similarly to Taiko Tatsujin V on the Playstation Vita.

The type who thinks Awakening is actually good. I've seen this before where people who started with Awakening becoming a new breed of GBA boomers who think the first one they played is the only good one. Not saying you are, but I've just seen this take before just like I see it with GBA boomers and 3H zoomers. Fire Emblem is pretty much like Final Fantasy where every entry is somehow controversial and their is no really general consensus of anything.

You both dodged a bullet, 3H ends like fucking ass in four entirely different ways. Honestly the set up first half was the best part, the game could fly but it couldn't land anywhere except by slamming into the side of a cliff. It is like the perfect fanfiction game where it gives people enough to write a better story, but it can't just write the story itself for some reason. I was enough of a sucker to play all four routes to see if any of them were good, and I regret everything.

The aesthetic is more or less the same, but the core mechanics have changed many times in very random ways with very random call backs to ideas. Think of it like FF5 vs FF7 vs FF8 vs FF10 vs FF12 vs FF13 and so on. Every game changes something dramatically and people either love or hate the changes.

Spoiler: Fire Emblem mechanical history autism

FE2 and FE15, which are the same game more or less, lean a little more into traditional RPGs in that they have a world map, random encounters to grind shit towards that spawn based on you moving around the map. This mechanic only exists in FE8/Sacred Stones and FE13 Awakening. Also this introduced the "villager" archetype, who is like Jean except Villagers in FE2/Echoes can become an array of classes once they reach a very random promotion level.

Their are also dungeons too. Also magic was a spell list tied to any spell capable character having a unique list and these cost hp. Weapon durability didn't exist in this game or the weapon triangle in any respect. Also you don't need to "equip" a weapon in this game, you just have a base weapon at all times so you can equip a better weapon like iron/steel/etc, or have a shield, or have food to eat. So your inventory is effectively one slot. You can also find revive temples to bring back dead characters even in the NES version. The 3DS version is the first existence of the time rewind feature.

FE4 has Holy Blood which are basically like Crests in 3H, except way stronger and way more swingy gameplay wise, they give you stat boosts, access to weapons and items, and all kinds of bullshit. Also the maps are gigantic to feel more like a war zone. One chapter in FE4 can feel like 2-3 in a normal FE game because of the huge map scaling. Also doubling is only possible with a skill called "Pursuit", also money iirc is tied to character. This is also the first time children existed, which creates an adult and child arc that is where Awakening would randomly take this idea about 15 years later.

FE5 has "capture" as a mechanic where you can literally steal enemies off the battlefield by ruining your hit rates but on killing blow you "capture" the unit and can steal their stuff. This is important to get items, it is like an more elaborative version of Stealing and a enemy "rescue" where you just can yoink soldiers onto your shoulders.

FE6 removed everything I just said entirely to the point GBA FE feels very barebones compared to FE 4 and 5, this also means no skills, no villagers, no dungeons, no random encounters. This is the first game with the support system as most people know it.

FE7 is a refinement of FE6 which made the game piss easy to appeal to new players in the west, because FE6 had harder enemies and ambush reinforcements who automatically move and attack when they show up.

FE8 brought in two class change routes, I will note until FE11 (aka FE1's remake) class changing does not exist on any level at all. At most you get "trainee units" which are like villagers but even weaker who can choose between classes twice as opposed to only once. This also brought back random encounters and monsters.

FE9 has bonus EXP (extra exp you can give to literally anyone after completing a map), support affinities which decide how supports give their bonuses, biorhythm (a predefined to every unit line where your hit and avoid rates change every single turn by 5-10 points every two or so turns depending on the unit), no multi class routes from FE8 (these won't return until either FE12 or 13 I forget).

Also skills came back from the SNES after about 10 years, so this is the first NA game with skills. Transformation units now have a gauge as opposed to being tied to a weapon like a dragonstone, this for simplicities sake is a total clusterfuck and most Laguz suck because of this. Because untransformed Laguz are useless.

FE10 is extremely unusual because for the sake of plot you are managing three different armies at seemingly random intervals, which makes unit availability and absolute clusterfuck that makes some units almost entire useless because they just don't exist for very long and come back at extremely weird points. Imagine being 20+ levels behind, that's Radiant Dawn unit viability at its worse.

Also due to this game's length their are three promotion tiers and classes have unique skills which are glorified fancy critical hits. Laguz got changed, but still suck unless they can ignore their gauge mechanic.

FE 11 is FE1, except it has weird shit like giving you specific units if you lose enough units and you can class change for free with some very specific restrictions that are too autistic for me to explain. Weapon triangle doesn't exist here, this is effectively playing a NES game except.

FE 12 is FE3, except everything I said about FE11 applies here too. Casual mode was also added here, oh and the first self insert avatar started here who is the best unit in the game.

FE13/Awakening has...FE2/FE8 random encounters, FE8's multi branch system, a more accessible and easy to break skill system, FE4 child characters (now with time travel and the children units are playable with their parents and if you are enough of an autistic grinding minmaxer you can break the game with them), also you can just class change units around with specific items.

Pair Up is a new mechanic where in essence, you can lose one unit to have them be a stat backpack who gives about 20+ stats (depends on class what they give) total, they have about a 70% chance to just attack with you every single swing, and have about a 20% chance to just make you not take damage for free. You can also switch who is the front character whenever you want. Also the villager archetype came back for the first time since the NES. Self insert still exists, is way more story relevant, and they're also still one of the best units in the game if not the best one.

FE14/Fates is 3 different games, pair up was massively rebalanced to be less broken, children came back but are extremely jank in narrative (yes more jank than literal time travel, their is a literal parallel dimension where they'll just become mid-teens in the span of a chapter so you can recruit them fast.). Ninjas exist, Ninjas are bullshit, class change was really scaled back in accessibility. Random battles don't exist, but "training battles" do where in 2/3 games you can just press a "gimme battle button" and fight shit to free exp. Class routes still exist, but different games get different classes which is the simplest way I'll explain it. Fates changed a fuck ton from Awakening despite it looking the same on the surface.

FE16/3H is a vastly different game from literally everything I just said here beyond that it has a grid turn based battle system, different skill systems, the teaching mechanics, multiple route shit, all the overworld shit. I know you're playing it so I know you can see how everything in 3H can differ from all this autism I just said here. This removed rescuing in any form (pair up is effectively like rescuing just with far more power than just utility and had been a stable mechanic since FE4 iirc). This brought back spell lists in a new game for the first time since the NES.

FE17/Engage is once more a different experience because of Emblems, different skill gaining systems, not as free form class changing, class sub-classifications, and a bunch of shit that doesn't quite exist in most FE games.

tl;dr FE has changed itself in many directions for decades by removing, adding, or reinventing mechanics in almost every single entry, beyond it being a grid turn based battle system where they'll just dig up 10-20 year old mechanics just cause Fire Emblem always changes. That's why everyone has such different opinions of the series beyond the "muh anime" talk. You could write a 15 page thesis about Fire Emblem's ever changing game design choices and how they change almost every single game. GBA was by far the most stable period in FE's history, everything else is so experimental. That's why it is considered a schizo series.

This isn't even talking about how many times the constitution (or BLD in Engage, which isn't in 3H btw) has changed in relevance and what the hell determines how weapon weight works or if it even exists in the first place. Oh and the very swingy balance of horse units, sword locked units, archers, and mages who swing between very useful/overpowered to useless from game to game. Those are relatively minor compared to all the baseline mechanical changes to the game's system.

By schizophrenic, I mean inconsistencies between games (particularly the eras Zeke described, sometimes because a change in directors, sometimes not) in things like tone, quality of writing, game balance, aesthetics, and the Gamefreak-esque ADHD tendency of introducing new mechanics most every new game only to drop them immediately after. It's just impossible to know what to expect from an upcoming Fire Emblem game before they're revealed, and the amount of people who thought the Engage designs were too dumb to be real during the initial leaks demonstrates that pretty well. I don't know how else I would describe the path from Awakening to Fates (speaking of Gamefreak again, remember they sold this as separate games???) to a fucking extremely faithful Gaiden remake, of all things, to a massively successful gacha to Three Houses to Engage, besides schizophrenic.

It's not on the level of something like Yakuza deciding it's Dragon Quest now, but whenever I read rumors about how the next FE will be about vampires, or ISIS really want to make a sci-fi FE on mars, or they're going to remake 4, none of it seems at all outside of the realm of possibility and I think that unpredictability is something fairly distinct to Fire Emblem, especially considering it's a Nintendo series. The core of medieval fantasy setting where you equip a javelin is always there, but it's 'identity' has been inconsistent for a while now.

I enjoyed Metroid Dread and have replayed it several times now. Meanwhile, I never even finished all of the shrines in Breath of the Wild. That game was so close to being the best Legend of Zelda game ever made, but it lacked too much that I've come to expect from the series and the breadth of the game means I'll probably never want to replay it from the beginning.

However, after watching the latest trailer for Tears of the Kingdom, it looks as if they may have actually fixed the issues with the first game and added much of what it should've had to start, like real dungeons, caves, and bosses. Thus I feel it has a chance to be the best, like its predecessor should've been.

I forgot her name but one of them, a different one, had what seemed to be a combat damage illustration (I'm guessing) and seemed pretty sexualized.

I never saw it in-game, I just look through FEH's illustrations because the art is the only quality aspect of the game. I'm surprised it's still going.

There's so much art I haven't seen the summertime characters yet, those are probably even more revealing than what I saw then. I bet it's all just girls too, I don't think people are going to whale out for speedo Ike.

That's how all these mobile games get with end-game content eventually, or even PvP. I was pretty into Pokemon Duel before it shut down and originally the meta was pretty open, but by one point you either needed Deoxys or you were never going to win without insane luck. They're designed to be unbalanced to catch whales, it's very predatory and just not fun.
