Hm, I never thought of it that way. I was mostly under the assumption that most of the critiquing and such would be contained in the lolcow threads and such, with the off-topic section being off-topic. And even then the critiquing would largely be picking apart flawed logic and false assumptions based on lack of, or omission of, key information.

As it is, Zelda TOTK is still an unreleased and unleaked game, with a game engine based on the previous game. Most AAA developers you are familiar with often use unity or other universal game engines where they can quickly slap together assets and actions so they can build a large unique game relatively quickly. Breath of the Wild did not have that, as Nintendo basically built a brand new engine from scratch that had all the physics and memory management needed to pull off such a large world. that's largely why BotW seems to be missing major Zelda mainstays, as they simply didn't have the time and budget to create dungeons and large towns. But TotK has that engine to build on, and a passionate development team committed to creating the world they dreamed of. And Nintendo on multiple occasions talked about how they like to w0w and surprise the player with things they weren't expecting. Therefore it is logical to assume that there will be large dungeons, each unique with it's own characteristics. There will be more mini bosses that have their own character. Unfortunatly, Tingle may somehow return.

Even though Nintendo has not shown these things, it would be an incredibly smooth-brained take to be absolutely certain that TotK will not be an enjoyable game, and mock those that are willing to consider the possibility.

And if you're admitting to straight not reading comments that discuss the rationale for the game possibly being good, and belittling those making those arguments anyways... you're no better then a troon trying to justify chopping off little boy's fiddly bits.

This may be hyperbolic but it's still one of the biggest reaches I have read in a while. You do know video games are not real, right? The things you do in them do not happen in real life. Someone disliking a game is not the same as arguing for mutilating people for life.

Dude, why the fuck are you taking vidya so seriously? It's just a game. Making bad arguments about video games is still infinitely more valid and harmless than bad political, scientific or religious arguments. No one dies because they said the only reason they played Zelda is to see boobers. Personally, I think the series is rather dull, especially after Twilight Princess. But that's my opinion. People are allowed to disagree with it and it's not a big deal because it's a game. It's not real.

Aside from blind faith that there's actually more to TotK than being glorified DLC, there's no way to assume it will be enjoyable to people who want an actual new game that has those missing features you mentioned.

In other news, in the past few hours it's been discovered that some people have already gotten their hands on the collectors edition, which IIRC has a physical cartridge. The original Reddit posts are being deleted but we should expect to see some gameplay leaks soon.

I seem to have missed out on a bit of drama in this thread.

All I'll say for now is that my hype is still high for TOTK (one of the few times where I get excited for an upcoming release nowadays), and what I've seen looks very promising. Granted, I am someone who loves BOTW and considers it my all time favorite game.

I guess if you didn't find it all that enthralling, the sequel will have to do a whole lot to be worth it in your eyes. But for me, based on the trailers and hands-on impressions, this looks to be even better than BOTW and refine everything that was great about it.
