what's best version of Ocarina of time and majora's mask to play? I've got romhacks that improve the n64 versions or 3DS versions on citra?

Probably the Ship of Harkinian PC port for OOT, despite being made by Discord larpers. Uncapped FPS, high resolution, widescreen, custom control mapping, analog camera, dpad for items, iron boots as an item, etc. Majora's probably n64 emulator with enhancements, or the 3ds version with the mod that fixes all the stupid changes and maps the masks to the dpad.

SoH download (April 2nd build) for those who don't want to brave the hellscape that is Discord: https://downloads.shipofharkinian.com/SoH-Khan-Charlie-Win64.zip

Edit for funny posterity: Apparently according to the devs, they barely got it to run on the Wii U, and a Wii port would be impossible because its too weak. How incompitent are these devs that they can't get a game that the Wii can EMULATE (the Gamecube can as well) to run on Wii hardware natively? Meanwhile the Chad Mario 64 port runs on the PS2 and DSi and even DOS

IMO there's no reason to play the N64 version of Ocarina if you have access to the 3DS version. With Majora it's not as clear cut. There are significant fixes to things that weren't broken in the original. Off the top of my head:
1. The inverted Song of Time slows time to 1/2 speed, compared to 1/3 in the original
2. The swimming controls as Zora Link are worse. He can only swim at top speed while using the electric shield
3. All of the bosses have been changed significantly, being given a very obvious weak point to attack.

Some things in 3D that work:
1. Double Song of Time lets you choose which hour to go to, instead of fast-forwarding to the next dawn/dusk
2. Interacting with an owl statue will save the game; you no longer have to reset time to save. Plus, there are more of them
3. The rewards for the Woodfall and Snowhead fairies are switched around

There's probably some other stuff but that's all I can recall rn.

https://restoration.zora.re/ that's why I recommend you use this if you MUST play the 3ds version.

otherwise just use an emulator with the HD texture pack by Nerrel:

I think that the 3DS version is better to play overall, if no other reason that it lets you cut down on one of the main things you'll be doing which is waiting for events to trigger.

The Zora thing's definitely a little annoying, but a) It's not that bad because you'll have the increased magic and b) you're only really going to be swimming a bit anyway in the grand scheme of things.

Any version's fine in the end though, it's still Majora's Mask.

I recommend the DS version or the Nintendo Switch version purely because the original loves to freeze at the beaver races or when you play too good and a ton of shit happens all at once.

And Majora's Mask is the last game you want to have freeze.

I never had that problem, if only because I originally played it on Gamecube ,which I hear had its own issues but I couldn't tell you what they were from memory.

I've been play A Link to the Past for the first time since maybe 2010 or 2011. Every time I come back to it, I'm reminded how perfect the scale of everything is. Things take long enough that they're satisfying, but nothing takes so long that it's a chore to do. The map is big enough that it feels like work to travel across it, -for example, when you go across the map to get a heart piece, it feels like you accomplished something- but it's not such a pain in the ass you're not going to do it. None of the dungeons drag on or overstay their welcome. I think some of the dungeons in later games, Zelda 64's Water Temple, for example, were just absolute slogs to get through. Nothing feels like that in LTTP. I have to replay A Link Between Worlds next. I've never played them back to back before.

Building towns and seeing the world change thanks to my efforts are among my favorite things in games. So I hope there is a bunch more of that.
Have I got a game for you
I gotta replay that one too.

Just gonna leave this here.

Looks pretty cool so far. Same game with significantly expanded tools to tackle obstacles and enemies. I'm looking forward to shield surfing down the Hebra mountains again on that... -squints eyes- ... "Spiked-Iron-Ball Shield."

After watching all the new gameplay videos, the whole thing feels more like DLC with a nice cinematic story (even if it is once again "Zelda gone, kill Ganon"). The fact that -blins are still the most common enemies in the game and still fight the same for the most part also kind of bums me out since it just means that the majority of the enemy battles will still be pretty predictable, which is sort of made worse by most constructs just fighting like bokoblins.

Although it is nice seeing an enhanced version of the gleeok dragon. Classic enemy revivals are always welcome, but I just hope the game was smart enough to include a ton of them for more combat variety.

Overall, it makes me wonder BotW really needed a sequel. The game obviously had a strong endurance with a still highly active playerbase without the need of a sequel. They were probably better off focusing on more creative and NPC expanding DLC content.
