I wonder what the next Animal Crossing game will bring. It would be nice if it let me customize the sides of cliffs, so instead of dirt walls I can have proper stone retaining walls or I can use custom textures.

The next Animal Crossing game should be an expansion of New Leaf and not the massive step backwards that New Horizons was.

New Leaf was already well on the road to stepfordized villagers that City Folk paved, the series should ditch this self-expression crap and return to the good ol days where you were verbally abused by your neighbor for saying hello and got revenge by watching them lose an argument with your favorite villager in public
I'm only half-joking. I really do want Animal Crossing to return to the GCN/Wild World ways of gameplay, but I'm exaggerating how mean it was for comedic value

The Happy Home Designer gameplay being integrated was a good idea so they should keep that.

these have the exact same problem as Pokémon clones, with the exception that they don't have to start from scratch
therefore, 99% of these fucking things:
>bloat the regional dex to hell and back so that you can catch 'em all because "the mainline games never let you"
>include every single battle gimmick introduced to the series EVER because "the mainline games never let you"

>bring back following Pokémon but without any of the interactivity and with gen 4 sprite styles in gen 3 games because "the mainline games removed it"
>stuff multiple regions into one game even if it destroys the level balancing which to be fair also happened in gen 2 because "the mainline games removed it"
>atrocious balancing in general, typically in an effort to be competitive. There is an entire genre of hacks centered around this, and almost all of them are total dogshit that require you have a very specific team to "git gud" or get floored
>have dogshit edgy/preachy stories about politics or religion (mostly cults) with blood and death and swearing because "the mainline games don't have mature enough stories"
I'm not even exaggerating; go take a single look at Pokecommunity's ROM Hack tab and open the first thing that looks interesting. I guarantee you it will have at least 3 of these points involved somehow, no matter what, and they'll advertise it front and center in their 'features' section. Most of these have even become the norm.
Or you could choose to play good rom hacks instead. I’m not even that involved in the Pokemon modding community but off the top of my head:
  • Emerald Rogue creates a roguelike out of gen 3 with options to toggle later gen Pokemon, newer mechanics, etc
  • Crystal Clear is open world with ~30 starter choices, gym scaling, customizable battle music, and a ton of QoL improvements among other things it also does some questionable things like including most of the devs as self-insert trainers, and the main dev himself being a recurring character
  • Fire Red Rocket Edition has you playing as a Rocket grunt, with the ability to steal Pokemon from other trainers, and mechanics/sidequests/etc being structured in a way that promotes one play style or another (building your team the old fashioned way vs. constantly swapping out for whatever you recently stole) though some of the dialogue near the end… let’s just say the dev started working for Amazon at some point, and it shows
  • Coral Version does a whole bunch of stuff
  • Clover, despite its /vp/ cancer and borderline kaizo difficulty, is still impressive on a creative and technical level
  • I haven’t played Prism, but it was good enough to make The Pokemon Company throw a fit and shut it down

I imagine that now they have a game engine and customizable world that they can expand on, they can now start bringing back old features. I would like it if they caved and brought back the in-game time setting. People will time travel anyways.

>immediately assuming I haven't played these
  • Emerald Rogue is made by a tranny and gets boring 3 runs after your first win (ESPECIALLY on DX) once there's nothing left to unlock and you've seen every map (all 8 of them)
  • Crystal Clear is a self-insert circlejerk that's more concerned with putting black people in traditional Japan and replacing canon characters with OP self-inserts than it is decent game design beyond bog-standard QOL improvements
  • Rocket Edition is good tbh the plot is a clusterfuck with a terrible conclusion but I kind of love how quickly it escalates with MissingNo and clones and shit while taking itself so seriously. Objectively quite bad (story-wise), but gives me enough ironic enjoyment to make up for it
  • Coral is still a halfway-complete demo and hardly deserves to be judged alongside the other fully-complete hacks you listed despite looking very promising
  • Clover hasn't aged super well and I'm not a huge fan of the fakedex, but it's another decent one from what little I've played
  • Prism is a sequel to Brown and I've heard it's also good, but I haven't played it. Also, Uranium is UTTER dogshit, but Nintendo threw a fit over that too. Getting DMCA'd =/= being quality.
I wouldn't be commenting on ROM Hacks being shit if I hadn't played quite a lot of them prior. :suffering:

I wonder if that guy survived. I actually like the taste of that bitterant, it's the same stuff they put in compressed air and that nail polish that's supposed to help you stop biting your nails.

It was still better than the official remake
Is it really? I'm kind of a sucker for official games, I think it looks pretty cool. I was hoping they'd port it to Switch.

I didn't like the 3d sidescroller thing they did, too blurry on the 3ds. The world all blended together and it wasn't very Metroid-like, bosses with checkpoints and kill conditions mid fight etc. Dread was a little better but I guess I just don't like what they have done with Metroid.

Didn't they patch this out?
maybe? i was more annoyed it got in in the first place. this was shortly after release, during one of the main storylines digivolutions, basically unmissable. digimon is somewhat infamous for having limp localisation efforts.
I thought I'd share this since it wasn't posted in this thread. By far the most credible sounding rumors for a Switch successor. Also pretty believable considering the Switch is in its seventh year of life. Of course some faggot is also claiming that the Switch 2 will release at the same time as the PS5 Pro. Here is the job listing itself.
I'm gonna maintain that the reasons I've outlined earlier in this very thread are good reasons why the Switch 2 isn't coming out yet.
If I had to guess, I'd say some or all of these are in play:
- They're waiting out the semiconductor shortage.
- They don't have a great gimmick in mind yet for the next one.
- They're afraid the next console is gonna be the new wii u.
- They're not finished until Prime 4 comes out.
But this might be a sign they're actually starting to do it.
