lol yeah because heaping more guilt and shame onto a suicidal person is exactly what will help raise them up from "so much pain I'd rather be dead" territory. This kind of thinking is why suicidal "idiots" tend to keep it to themselves until it's too late. That and the (legitimate) fear that admitting such thoughts to anyone, trusted or not, can result in incarceration, involuntary commitment, forfeiture of gun rights (and possibly other rights), etc. doesn't help either. Mandatory reporting laws mean they can't even talk to a psychologist or doctor in confidence without risking all that and more.

I've spoken with a number of recovering drunks and addicts over the years who attempted suicide when they were active in their addiction, when they hit bottom. The emotion that comes through most with most of them in that conversation is deep embarrassment, even though their suicide attempts were often the catalyst that led them to recovery and a new life. I've heard a few of them say, 'I was such a fuckup I couldn't even get suicide right.'

We'd laugh about it, but I think (although I would never tell them) junkie incompetence is a good thing, sometimes.

Society has a hard time dealing with mentally destabilized individuals. It relies on everyone being a rational actor. To include the criminals. Irrational actors are an outside context problem with no easy solution for a system set up for the benefit of rational actors.

It's easy to point out the issue with mandatory reporting and gun confiscation. But it's just as easy to point out that someone who is possessed by the urge to shoot up their school probably needs to be hauled in by the authorities.

Jesus christ dude. I don't even like cats and that shit messed me up just as hard as the kids dying stuff. There really must be some connection to being a serial killer and torturing animals, because I loathe alot of animals, but seeing them get hurt has always bugged me. People do shit like this for twisted fucking reasons, its nothing as simple as stupidity or boredom. Its just pure evil.
