Sony hate thread

It’s been 2.5 years. How much longer does the install base need to build before people start actually buying games?
To add to this, a lot of the recent japanese third-parties have been (and continue to be) crossplatform between PS4 & PS5, and yen prices are exactly the same between the two versions.
In a similar fashion of what's been posted previously in this thread, which did show the abysmal attach rate of the PS5 in Japan (compared to the previous consoles including non-Sony ones), here's the comparison of platform split for cross generation release between Sony home consoles in the same current timeframe (2 to 2.5 years after the newest Sony system).

In 2016, 2 to 2.5 years after release, with an install base hovering between 2.4M-3.2M, the PS4 was the leading Sony system for retail software releases in Japan. Not a single PS3 SKU outsold a PS4 SKU, both first week and the whole year of 2016.

A few things to note:
- The sample of games is notably smaller (five vs eight) with games also in a much smaller range of sales (30k-89k FW on PS5 in 2023 vs 50k-375k FW on PS4 in 2016).
-There are a few games that didn't make the cut in the list because of drawing an arbitrary line at 50k retail sales on PS (Disgaea 7, Octopath Traveler II, Atelier Ryza 3, Winning Post 10, etc. which ALL sold better on the Nintendo Switch by a large margin) as the sample of games had to be of comparable scale.
-PS5 leads for ONE game (Wo Long, which is also the lowest seller that was included despite not quite making the 50k milestone), otherwise PS4 is completely on par or ahead.

In any case, 2 to 2.5 years since the PS5 came out and with a similar install base between 2.3-3.2M, the PS4 does remain as the leading Sony system for retail software releases in Japan, with a single minor counter example to this (Wo Long Fallen Dynasty).

Some extenuating circumstances to that situation can be found:
- Higher digital ratio for PS5, with a digital only hardware model accounting for around 14% of total hardware sales.
- A playerbase more akin to playing free2play or digital-only titles.
- A certain amount (see: large) of the hardware sales being sent off to others countries.

But that doesn't change a few facts regardless:
- PS4 also had to deal with higher digital ratio than PS3 back in the day.
- The transition in sales for multi-platform titles is notably slower.
- Playstation game sales are incredibly lower no matter how you look at it (especially PS4 retail sales which cratered a lot this year so far).
- Looking at Crisis Core, Resident Evil 4, One Piece Odyssey, etc. the pattern of better sales in the long term for the "old" generation SKU remains
Some may also recall that the first year of PS4 had an exceptionally slow start in Japan despite the inventory was more widely available for that hardware, so saying the Playstation 5 finally caught up to PS4 launch-aligned in Japan first is not as high of a bar as someone would think.

With the Famitsu/MC data or the way SIE has been treating its second largest market, with no signs of improvement or rebound for over 2 years, it begs the question how some individuals can continue to say with any remote confidence that the PS5 will be a primary dev platform for (the majority of) japanese games. Let alone a Dragon Quest.

Second pic wasn't updated yet to include Armored Core 6 (PS4+PS5) recently announced for 8月/August btw.

However it's still not great news for their actual userbase that Sony is going to focus more on other platforms than their own current customers.
I think this is good news for normal people and only bad news for diehard Sony fanboys, because they will be the only one immensely butthurt that their only argument for buying a PS5 besides blind brand loyalty is getting sabotaged by Sony, by porting their oh so special and exclusive walking simulators to PC.

I absolutely do not care about the games themselves, but I fucking hope they'll shrink their platform exclusives list so that the mentally deranged fanboys collectively shit their pants. :story:

No Bloodborne, no Gravity Rush, no Demon's Souls. Only pozed interactive films.

They can shove their PC ports up their cunts.
Yeah, The Last Guardian also, maybe Ghost of Tsushima, that's about all they have for true exclusives I want to try. Pitiful amount of games over 2 gens really.

I'm starting to think EDF 6 is never getting a US release.
There might be an announcement in June, which commemorate the 20th anniversary of the franchise, and a logo was unveiled last month for a future event. Hopefully with an announcement of a PC port too because I can't see myself shelling out over 500€ on a PS5 hardware for just ONE game, no matter how much I love EDF itself.

EDF-20th-Logo.jpg

On the other hand, the Switch ports of EDF2, 3 and 4.1 may never leave Japan probably because XSEED owns the localization/dub rights (for the previous versions) and has shown no interest in bringing them over. D3 Publisher began localization in-house starting from the fifth main entry.

HAPPY 20TH BIRTHDAY TO ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHILDHOOD GAMES THAT I’M GLAD TO STILL OWN ON THE PLAYSTATION 2:

IMG_5878.jpeg

Admittedly, I played this game originally on the GameCube, so it wouldn’t be much later in my life when I finally managed to get my hands on the PS2 version. Either way, the fact that this is now 20 years old is both awesome but also showing signs that I’m really getting old.

The beautiful part about this game is that the advertisements were some of the best from a marketing standpoint:

Plus, in a rare part of my life, I vividly remember the ads that were made at a time when sports magazines (like SLAM Magazine for example) actually made this game look larger than life to me when I was a kid:

IMG_5882.jpegIMG_5884.jpegIMG_5883.jpegIMG_5885.jpegIMG_5879.jpeg

And the best part about this is that much like the last installment, you could also play as all three versions of Michael Jordan (’88-‘89 MJ from the Bulls, ‘93-96 MJ from the Bulls and ‘02-‘03 MJ from the Wizards) as well as famous 2000’s rap megastar Nelly:

IMG_5881.jpegIMG_5880.jpeg

I could go on and on, but I do genuinely believe that this game deserves to be on the GREATEST OF ALL TIME™ game lists for the PS2 just for the simple fact that it represent the 2000’s very well. The worst part, however, is that we will never have another street all game like this since 2K and NBA LIVE in the recent years completely destroyed any goodwill that sports gamers had over the years.

Honestly, I’m glad I brought the Slim PS2 out because I’m going to have some fun playing this game with no distractions. Either way, I’m just glad I posted this on the right date, since it will also celebrate its 20th birthday in Japan in the next two days.

Too bad 90% of the n64 library is unplayable thanks to the awful controller and the framerate issues that means something like 10 N64 games run at 60fps also whats a rpg on the N64.
Everybody back then managed just fine with the controller and cartridge limitations. Comparing a fifth generation game to a seventh-eighth generation game based on technology is not fair.

I actually used to own this on the GameCube, but I did play it on the PS2 with my friends back when it was new. It was certified 2000s sports game kino. My god, I miss EA BIG so bad.

I mean Sony already sabotaged the "muh exclusives" argument when they said that they were nothing without Call of Duty

>No Bloodborne
>No Gravity Rush 1-2
>No OG Demons' Souls
>No Ghosts of Tsushima
>No older Ape Escape ports
>No older exclusives (SOCOM, Killzone, Resistance)

Fuck you, your """ports""" and you in general. I will never buy your trash TLOU and Uncharted.

I dare Sony to port Gran Turismo 7 to PC, just out of curiosity with how will it turn out. Will they cheapen out on the port like Sony and Naughty Dog did with TLOU1's port, or will Kaz's autism get to the point that the port takes too long to come out, or something else?
