Best of Corporate Pride Month Items - Gotta get me some of that demographic money, right boys?

This is something that's always baffled me. I'm not smart by any means. But I find it crazy, absolutely crazy that the Lettuce Guac Bacon Tomato people along with blacks have allowed themselves to be turned into products. Like it's so very obvious that these corpo rats don't give a single fuck about any of us, they only see us as wallets and shit but I still see people celebrate this as "being seen". What the fuck is it? Are these people's self esteem so low that even a random ass sewing company can make them feel validated by rainbow washing their logo? Or is it that they're so very deep into the bullshit that they just don't care? Isn't it insulting to be pandered to so aggressively?

If I suddenly got advertising from companies targeting fat guys, I would be very alarmed.

What absolutely fucking freaks me out about this shit is long time friends of mine who used to make fun of this shit a few years ago ever since corona hell hit have fucking started devolving into standard corporate npc slop type talking when it comes to "queer" shit , getting on their high horse and acting pretentious as hell while treating me like some unwashed hateful and bigoted idiot without outright saying it every chance the opportunity arises., waxing poetic about how bad capitalism is and how it's important to have 'representaiton" in media, the usual shit. Thing is they were never like this before now and when i point this out whenever they get that way they treat me like i'm fucking insane. It's obviously not the result of some nutty shit like chemicals in the water or else I'd be exactly like them, it just becomes more clear to me each year how willing a lot of people I've formed long time relationships and bonds with would be willing to throw those away for a drop of twitter clout despite how much they deny it when I call them out on it. They're giving themselves up to the corporate politics machine and it fucking hurts just watching them fully commit to what they previously stood against. I'm sick of finding some new fucked up or funny thing that happened thats blatantly real and have these smug ass skinwalkers come in to "debunk" it or derail it with gender/race/capitalism talk. I don't like this new fake as hell world where everyone acts like some kinda sectoid corporate middle manager even when there's nobody around to impress.

Sorry if this got rambly, I've been running on barely any sleep these past few days and thinking about a lot of shit like this.

I think it's honestly due to lack of a solid spirituality. People can diss me all day for that take, but I've seen too many people grasping for some kind of identity from anywhere possible that it's helped me reach this hypothesis.

What do I mean by spirituality? It's complicated, but it comes down to a having healthy sense of self and recognizing where you fall in the world. You don't seek answers solely from a hypocrite in a pulpit or some dude who wrote a book. You may or may not have a healthy relationship with an organized religion, but you at least have good ties to a solid culture that corpos can't cash in on.

Speaking as an American, when you have a "culture" so sterilized that the the main options are Abrahamic money shit, smug emptiness, and a sense of individuality tied up in consumerism, you get bullshit like people begging big corpos to feed them. It's why we see them as all acting the same. They're not taught a healthy trifecta of spiritually, individuality, and collectivism. You need all three to thrive as a human. But we're seeing glitter covered soulless husks wandering aimlessly. The "good ol'ways" won't fix it; that primed the canvas for what we're seeing now. Corpos want to be the only ones who can dictate your identity.

Pride themed Squishmallows and other toys are still sitting unsold in Walgreens. No one bought the Pride themed cheap plastic Disney necklaces either. It's amazing to see the other Disney Squishmallows sell while the Pride ones just sit. I don't think the holidays will change that either. Most sensible people don't want to buy that stuff for their kids because the rainbow's been hijacked. It's why I still stay away from anything rainbow. It's just not fun anymore because corporate greed. Years ago I was less afraid of rainbow stuff. But now it pretty much means LGBTQRSTLNE and I don't want to send messages that I don't intend to.

I went to World Market and saw some pride themed snacks and candles marked way down last month. Very telling considering this shit has been out for sale for close to six months. Maybe corpos won't pull this shit again.

Is it possible that the pride products were geared towards "allies" and homo-tourists? Now the fad and ship has sailed, if not become outright embarrassing or something you don't want to be identified as when the ship goes down. Most stable homos don't do pride, and the rest are a bunch of failure to launch lazy people or completely incapable of generating their own money for whatever reason.

I remember in 2012/2013 seeing some kind of tumblr post that got mad goldfish crackers or oreoes or some kind of snack food had put out a small promotion on pride that year. They said it was commodifying gay people. Another person argued it was a positive thing, the company was taking a legitimate risk to see if gay people were viable demographics worth selling things to like any other demographic. It was an interesting discussion.

That was 10 years ago, and the world was a completely different place. Gay marriage hadn't been legalized then. I think the mindset of a lot of people still remains that pandering to the LGBT community is a legitimate, risky move to take in the western world. So they accept it, even while acknowledging it's complete overkill and ultimately a meaningless gesture. It makes them feel special.

In my local Walmart there's a ton of pride themed Christmas items, a poorly made rainbow artificial tree, cheap rainbow colored ornaments, Pride bath bombs in the holiday gifts section next to the hot chocolate bombs- it's cringe, and no one is buying them. You also have to look on the other side of the store in the outdoor section to find actual Christmas ornaments, the little holiday section at the front of the store just has Funko Pops and pride ornaments that hardly anyone's bought. At least the full shelves look nice.

I'd make fun of anyone who decorates their tree in gaudy full saturation rainbow ornaments.

December Diamonds has been making That Gay Shit since the very early 2000s, probably longer before the internet. That on its own is on a much lower level of pandering since these are by gay, for gay (and some of their stuff is SO adorable if you love kitsch . They're enabling my dream to make a sea-themed Christmas tree.)
Notice that these are listed as 'limited edition.' Unlike the less-seasoned panderers, they know to dip a toe in before they dive. They wanted to make it and be done with it.

Besides: how many trannies actually bought this? Companies that are by gay, for gay, are usually well known within the gay community: I STILL remember when their first vendor website first went up. But spicy straights know very, very little about these smaller niche brands without being told, unless they were already into collectibles.

From what I know most of them are aware it’s a way for them to make money and still hate them during pride month. I’ve never bought a corpo pride product in my life and I never plan to because of how obvious it is that it’s profiting off of a marginalized group, it would be like Afghani Cheerios. I remember last year there was some controversy over this which might give you a good laugh:
