Impossible to predict. We don't have enough information. The wound could heal just fine on its own. The wound could get badly infected. He could develop sepsis without the wound getting particularly nasty (sepsis isn't a bad infection, it's an out of control immune response to infection).
The worst case scenario is sepsis, but even that is a continuum. It can be mild and fairly easily detected and treated or people can go from being "off colour" to needing multiple amputations to save their life within hours.

He's been pretty lethargic in his videos (but that's not saying much). Especially in the 'thanks for $20, send more' video he looks really ill.
I guess if we could add to the question- if/when he shows symptoms, is it a straight downward slide or will he have good days and bad days for a while?

I agree on this too. I think it´s normal that people lose their shit in response to an update like this, specially since the only thing we have been seen from Chris in the last weeks are boring paid videos. I think that discussion on this topic will continue to fester until we have further information coming from Chris himself or a confident source.

Though I'm interested to see how this develops, though it's not like this is something that'll change quickly- Chris has already claimed he's seen a doctor (it doesn't matter if it's true or not), and whilst there's a chance that it'll burrow deeper and cause further health issues, because of Chris' autistic pain tolerance and general ill-health it'll take time.
So there's gonna be new content about this, it's just more likely to be people saying 'oh god why' until then.

I think a lot of people who are "pearl-clutching" about Chris's, uh... wound... want to help, but deep down know that they can't. Like, I legitimately pity Chris right now, but at the same time I realize that he is beyond help because he's fucking delusional. Like there's something not right in his head and that is unfortunate.
But after seeing many others basically going "we must help chris rite nao." I guess I can kind of see why it's getting a bit old.

Depends on the symptoms. There are a ton of different possible scenarios and some are more serious than others. If he starts feeling off colour and develops a rash which doesn't blanch, then minutes count. Sepsis doesn't magically get better on its own. It requires medical intervention.
If he just develops a nasty infection, then that could go either way - it could still heal on its own or it could just keep getting worse. Or he could enter a state of chronic infection which can be controlled but not really cured.
We can't prod this wound. We can't smell it. We can't even see it properly. We can't swab it. We don't know whether it's spongy or firm, tender or not, warm or cool. We don't know what any exudate from the wound looks/smells like. In essence, we don't know what Chris's "symptoms" are unless he chooses to tell us and he may well not even mention some things because he doesn't understand that they are symptoms.
There's no reason to believe he'd listen to randos. All we can do is hope that those he regularly engages with will be aware if there's any significant change indicating an emergency and are able at that point to convince him to get help.
