If I said it once, I'll say it again: the system (in this case, legal and bureaucratic), is doing a better job at parenting (even though it's a 40 year old manchild) than Bob and Barb Chandler ever did. Instead of keeping Chris out of trouble, they've indulged his worst traits, and made him into who he is now. Bob would have done a better job at monitoring Chris spending and should have realized his sped of a son was buying sex toys and soliciting sex with attraction signs in an alarming rate, instead of keeping Chris into academics. Instead of PVCC, Bob should've sent Chris to an adult day care. And the mainstreaming. This has been discussed at length, to say it short: it was a failure that should not have happened. Barb, well, the less said about her parenting, the better. It just looks like the courts, his lawyer and other involved authorities have found a suitable home.
Is it possible that he could have signed over responsibility or been declared unfit to care for himself, so this home basically is now his wrangler?
As in, he signs power of attorney or whatever, they manage his tugboat, bills, debts, allow him some pocket money.
But they take him out for shopping trips, make sure he observes hygiene standards, behaves appropriately in public?
They may not be able to deny him access to the internet, but what about if he is just not allowed a smartphone, computer or any internet capable device?
When he needs to do real things he needs the internet for, perhaps a staff member supervises him, or is the one using the computer while he explains what he wants and inputs any passwords?
They can give him a dumb phone in case he gets lost and lock it to his handlers number, the homes number and emergency services.
Is this sort of treatment within Virginia law?
At the end of the day, this would be the best treatment and conditions of life for him, as it would keep him out of trouble and eventually possibly make him a semi productive member of society.
I know I might be being optimistic, but could it be possible that someone has managed to arrange the best for him ?
Unfortunately it took 40 years, but Chris is in a better place now.
