Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

So, outside of the new abilities that your prosthetic arm gives you, are there any notable new weapons that isn't related to the Zonai?

No new weapon types, all the new weapon stuff is from sticking stuff to weapons. There are still new weapons, but not as many as there are combinations of sword + item. Merging a weapon with an item makes a new weapon for that specific item, using stats from the base. So it's not as modular as it seems, but there is still a lot.

Ganon eats the funny stone and turns himself into a dragon (funniest shit I've ever seen). Then you ride Zelda the dragon and fight Ganon dragon in a fight that Shadow of the Colossus did better in 2005

That town on the Southeast coast with an enemy fortress within walking distance on the west and beaches with monsters to the east? Yeah it was bound to happen.
Maybe that rock monster to the east finally woke up went for an jog or something

Also the fact that there are dodongo footprints on Death Mountain in BotW but still no dodongos even now is such a gyp
Are we even sure those are Dodongo footprints? Because they have the same shape as Vah Rudania's feet and are probably meant to represent that

I'll risk looking like a tasteless Nintendo shill or whatever to say that I'm also enjoying it a lot more than I was expecting, though I
1: Remember exactly Jack Shit about Hyrule so don't care about map being reused
2: Had zero expectations and am not paying Jack Shit to play it
3: Also enjoyed BOTW until it suddenly felt like there was Jack Shit reason to do anything that wasn't Advancing the Story and Finishing the Game
4: Still think the BOTW Defense Force is psychotic and insanely defensive considering there is a Jack Shit percent chance of a Zelda game selling poorly/recieving an 8.8 ever again regardless of how many people on KF and /v/ make fun of it (people who want zelda to be dark souls or something are not much better)

Do I recommend it? Do I think the 6 year dev time shows? Will this game change anyone's mind on modern Zelda and Nintendo? Fuck if I know, I think there's pretty compelling arguments from both sides and I am way out of my element on this one. What I do know is that I've gotten a few days of fun from it already and will likely get at least a few more from it, which is all I can really ask for. I've been consistently playing the game over participating in shitposting over it too, for whatever that's worth.

I have some clips too so this post isn't completely pointless. There's not really any spoilers but idk maybe you're both reading this thread and really care about having a pure gameplay experience for some reason

Hiccups like this aren't that common, but they do happen enough that I feel it's worth mentioning when talking about performance. I don't remember if BOTW also did this.

Another funny little thing which may or may not have also happened in BOTW.

You can make things really big. A lot bigger than I thought they'd let you, and they get unwieldy in ways that are pretty fun the larger they get. You can do some truly wacky shit once you start getting more and more different kinds of robot legos, though I tend to keep things pretty strictly utilitarian. That will probably change after playing for a while longer and getting more bored/legos.

No that happens on Switch
The only issue that I had when the first game came out was my Switch was starting to overheat after wandering around for a hour or two.

They pull a deus ex machina out their ass to bring Zelda back form being a furry dragon
Let me know when Link transforms into the Dragon of Courage or something. The series had already jumped the shark with the Temple of Time bit, early on

I originally thought that, but Rudania's toes are way blockier and it doesn't seem to have that fourth long anisodactyl rear digit on its feet that the prints have, just a small block.

Edit:
Found a nice mod that adds dodongos while looking for the pics above, although its just a bear reskin with a modified lizalfos skin.
The chameleon look seems to suit them better.

I think the depths gave a poor first impression, I'm enjoying it more now that I have better equipment and the like, but I think its still kind of lacking in stuff actually underground. Without shrines (as much as I distain them), koroks or secret caves there isn't really that much to really find. There is absolutely stuff I'm missing though, which is why I think only me posting about my playthrough isn't the best for someone trying to get a good idea of what the game has to offer, you are only seeing my playthrough, and despite me sort of trying to be neutral, my opinions still come through and taint it.

attach the hook to the board in the middle, hook the board to the rail and ride it across.
I have enjoyed your posts tbh. It has been super interesting to hear a first impression from someone that isn't full on loving this. Not read any of the specific spoilers though. Can't wait to actually play it and be able to discuss it.

NOA localization team, let me know if anyone is a red flag in there.

Also I don't know if I just missed it or what, but I don't think I saw any writing credits, but I might just be stupid. Although having no writers would explain a lot

ignore my fps overlay having a seizure, that's only from the capture.

I would say its better than Botw, but its still not the 'greatest game ever made'. I think the perfect review scores of Botw are stupid and the game is around a 7.5/10 if you require a score (non inflated, above average (average being 5.0) score). I would give this game something like a 7.7/10 or something. It's not the greatest thing ever, but its good. It's still not an actual Zelda game. It didn't do much of anything to actually improve upon botw, instead just adding more things on top. They doubled down on weapon durability and the shrines and even the lack of dungeons. People will say they added dungeons, but the dungeons in the game are slightly expanded (or condensed in some cases) Divine Beasts. There are 4 main dungeons, Hyrule castle, and then a 5th not-really-a-dungeon.

I await the game winning every award there is and the soys cooming all over it for just being Zelda. I will probably play it after this every once and a while, but I was getting tired of it by the 3rd dungeon.

No there is no Demise, no Triforce (only even appears in Hyrule castle and on the Master Sword). They play the Fi theme when talking about the Master Sword and it makes the Fi sound, but thats it. Absolutely zero references to prior games other than that, and nothing to fit on a 'timeline'. Lorefags are going to be in a severe state of denial, so if thats your thing keep an eye on that.

Pretty funny they made all that re-occuring incarnations and stuff, even the entire timeline with Skyward Sword, only to completely abandon it 2 games later.

oh yeah, still no post game. You get a star on the last save file, that's it.

I'd almost say it's worth it just for them basically saying "It's a fucking reboot stop bothering us about timelines and shit"
Where did the timeline shit even come from? Even when I was a kid, I knew a lot of the games were disconnected with similar elements. OoT got the most direct sequels out of any (Or is it whatever link went on the minish cap stuff?) Wind Waker had little to no connection to it other than people saying the birds were connected to the zora or some shit.

It was mainly how autistic people get over time travel and OoT provided the perfect example to obsess over. Like, if you're traveling to the future, your absence might create an "alternative" time where shit happens and you weren't around to stop it...Or nothing happens because each time you return to the "present" it's really an millisecond of you being absent from the original timeline

If I had to make an actual guess for the starting point?

The official Ocarina of Time Nintendo Players Guide

It had a whole section about the "history" of Zelda and how it hasn't been told in the chronological order and thus they leave it up to you to decide the truth.

Although IIRC I think marketing/promotional material for Link to the Past also set up some precedent for it as well but I'm not old enough to remember it.

Edit: That being said, this was all NoA bullshit. I don't think Miyamoto ever actually gave a shit or had a grand plan, and I will die on the hill that the N64 games (Mario 64, Star Fox, OoT at least) were all meant to be hard reboots if he did.

I don't even think Anouma gave a shit and that's why he basically made everything before OoT non canon by making it part of some "Link actually lost" timeline to shut people up.

I'd argue everything in BotW and what we are learning about TotK point to him actively wanting to be rid of it now.
