Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

And I'm sorry, I don't think Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI are going to be the juggernauts that Skyrim was. It's been a fucking decade trends have passed, the new demographic is here and they're all fucking Fortnite kids.

I don't know. I'm not saying either are going to beat Skyrim, those numbers are preposterously big, but Bethesda owns their niche of RPGs. Kingdom Come is the only one that I can say is similar, and that's from more than five years ago, and that sold 5 mil despite there being a media blackout on it because they refused to put niggers in it.

Microsoft just cuts their losses and cuts Xbox loose?
I'd hope, but I know they won't. there was a time they came close, but MS has now shifted into services, and xbox is more than the console now. which means they start dragging their shit unto PC again, can't wait for the inevitably GWFL 2.0 (they already added denuvo to ghostwire: tokyo a year after release, I suspect to fuck with the steam deck).

Microsoft isn't lying when they say they won't withhold Call of Duty from Playstation because that's not what they want. What they want is for Sony to only be able to have it through Gamepass. That's the whole point of the Activision deal at its core I think.

This is why Spencer is like "Eh, you're gonna have a game in the 60's now and then" I think. Because in Microsofts eyes, they want to have control of so many games that OF COURSE some aren't going to be 8, 9 or 10/10s.

Now so far I'd say they're not doing an effective job. Pushing out sub par shit should be reserved for after you get your shit on all systems and people feel the need to *have* it. But I still ultimately feel that is what their goal or mindset is at.
the problem is how gamepass affects publishers/devs at large, and in the end consumers as well. it's highly subsidized now, the only way it will ever be really profitable is if they own the market (so they can ask whatever price they want, and people HAVE to pay it), which they won't on PC and thanks to sony (and to an extend nintendo).
meanwhile games outside gamepass make shit profits since why bother if everyone can play the newest games for a buck a month? which means COD either won't be on gamepass (why have it then?), later (which will piss people off) or from the start but even more milked with microtransactions and other monetization on top of gamepass to make the money back.

to boost the numbers MS would have to pay for far more games than it makes sense to have on a "buffet" style service, in that regard even sony's strategy of old having all kinds of games for the sake of platform made more sense, because in the end you're still buying a playstation (and most people only ever buy 1 console, maybe a nintendo handheld too) and then into the service. how many people use gamepass to it's full extend really besides OMG NEWEST GAME FOR CHEAP, ignoring most of the games on the service?

because not many studios can do a game on the scale of skyrim or even KC:D, certain genres are simply out of reach for anyone that's not AA+.

It's so weird. Forza is like the only IP Xbox even has of relevance anymore.
Even so, Forza has no staying power anymore. There's only so much you can do with hyperrealistic cars and large open worlds. Add insult to injury, Forza games get delisted every few years because of licensing contracts. If you've never played a game like Forza Horizon before, its causal approach to racing feels innovative and inviting. But, that formula can only stay fresh for long without being stale for long term investment.

Yeah, I remember last year wasn't Flight Sim and Forza Horizon...whatever number they're on the big things at their showcase?

And like all Forza guys talked about was like weather, lighting and dirt effects and shit?

I don't know, it's probably great if you're a hardcore racing fan but yeah for everyone else it's like "who gives a fuck?"

I love to visualize Jean Harlow driving an Audi TTS and having the tires make mud tracks at 120 mph at 4k 60fps. At nighttime.

The final result of the 12 months promise:

I completely forgot there was a Forza Motorsport coming, I don't think there's been a single piece of news about it since that conference.

Also I've flipped hard on GamePass. I used to love it for the sheer convenience but this past 12 months has seen almost nothing of value added to it. Age of Empires IV was such a let down that I keep forgetting it ever released, I can't even think of another first party game I played. Even 'Day 1 GamePass' games have been mediocre as hell, with Sniper Elite 5 being a downgrade from 4, Crusader Kings 3 being dogshit, Atomic Heart ending up as a typical 6/10 fps, SCORN being an absolute disaster etc. Ok Tunic was good but even then I stopped playing it one day and never built up the motivation to finish it.

If anything it's just exposed how so many games coming out in 2023 are fucking dogshit and if you play them a little bit, any desire to buy them evaporates.

The convenience comes with the cloud gaming, but you need a strong Internet connection to get the most out of it. I wish MS would step up their exclusive line up. Driving around in circles in Forza isn't going to cut it.

I refuse to play anything on GamePass. It's basically a seal of "our game is total shit and we sold ourselves to microsoft to recoup the losses".

The fucking Netflix of video games.
"We don't have to put any effort into making sure our product is quality, as long as it looks like a real product on the brochure page, because it'll get subsidized and we'll make money no matter what!" - people who create garbage for subscription services

Yeah, take away any incentive to actually compete in the marketplace and surprise surprise, it becomes a quantity-over-quality mad dash to churn out as much filler as possible. It's surprising how many people sucked off Game Pass while never expecting the exact same thing that happened to every other service.

So we either get quick release trash or 5+ year long trash?

No wonder I hate games now.

Be honest, would you really pay full price for Sea of Thieves? That cartoon pirate MMO? NGL, I was considering it.

Probably because blaming Gamepass for the state of the industry is still a retarded take, where as blaming it for the state of Xbox has a little more merit.

Notice I say "a little more merit", as Xbox itself hasn't been pushing out a lot of quantity itself, Redfall took like 5 years to make and was largely (if not entirely) done outside of the Xbox/Bethesda merger, and there have been games outside of Xbox that take 3-5+ years to make and still end up feeling half baked (Metal Gear Solid V, Call of Duty for like 5 years now, Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII Remake)

I used to be a big Xbox fan. The Original Xbox and early years of the Xbox 360 were some of the greatest times to be a console gamer. Then they fucked it with Kinect and delaying the launch of the Xbox One, and then launching the Xbox One.

Phil Spencer is not the saviour the xbox fans, and/or the media make him out to be. He signed off on the most retarded ideas that have crashed and plagued the industry since 2010. I've never liked Sony, but have to give them major respect for pushing the technology, and supporting VR, in the console space.

Gamepass is a good idea with terrible implementation, which is a very Microsoft approach to ideas. If gamepass more focused on AAA games from 2 years ago (including DLC/GOTY editions) and modern-day indies and budget tier games, it would be brilliant.
Gamepass should be the old bargain bin of yesteryear as those bins contained some of the greatest, jankiest and most fun games you could play. I'm sure I am not alone in having stories of picking up cheap games during a drought only to have them be some of the most cherished experiences of our gaming lives.

Current day Xbox can go fuck itself though. I hope they buy ABK and EA and T2 and all of the other corporate American, greed-oriented, woke-infested shitehawk publishers there are. I want to see that whole section of the industry burn to the ground and rip it out of the hands of the fortnite/COD kids, the trannies and the normies, and return our hobby to the socially-awkward, basement-dwelling nerdlingers that once made it so great.

Thanks for reading my rant. Sack Phil Spencer.

Edit: Anyone who thinks Starfield can or will outsell Skyrim, Morrowind or oblivion, is missing out on something Starfield has that no other ES has had; the ability to play the game without purchasing it. Starfield could have 100 million players, but if 99 million of those play it via gamepass, then it will only 'sell' 1 million copies.

Expect Microsoft to do what they always do; adjust how they calculate success. Starfield's KPI's and metrics will be how many planets people have visited, VS how many people bought the game.

Starfield has two things going for it: name recognition and Game Pass. If any other publisher created it, it would be generic filler. Fallout 4 received mixed reception, 76 received worse reception, I feel that Starfield will be mixed at best. What is the premise? Fallout in space? Play The Outer Worlds.

There's nothing wrong with Game Pass as a concept. It's how it's handled. There's no valuable games that would outright make people subscribe long term.

Fallout 4 was terrible and I never touched the abortion that was 76. Bethesda cannot make a good Fallout game and should hand the series to Obsidian who can make a good Fallout game. Outer Worlds was a great game and I have a feeling that OW2 will be a better 'Skyrim in Space' than Starfield.

Starfield is going to be an abomination, saved only by Gamepass, not helped by it. Gamepass means people can sign up for pennies, try it, realise it will be shit and then cancel their sub.

People will, and have, called me crazy for saying Starfield will be shit, but I was calling Cyberpunk2077 a bomba 12 months before it dropped, we saw how that turned out.

I won't go on a rant about Starfield but it has been delayed from last year, the gameplay clips we were shown were on PC (regardless of what they say) and so far we have seen only a few seconds of gunplay. No skill trees, no other classes, nothing other than shooting a few cardboard enemies for 2xp. This could change next month during the showcase, but I doubt it.

Microsoft have lost the ability to make, or pay for, good games.

Understand that I'm completely out of the loop but I've seen no one excited for Starfield beyond the usual jewtube bugmen, but they'd be hyped for anything they figure will roll content.

Nah, we got a look at some skill trees, they're just so bland and gay you'd be forgiven for thinking it was a challenge screen.

Speaking about Bethesda even if I give them credit for putting atleast some effort into their open world. Atleast more than Ubisoft,
but not by much. They are still making games at snails pace. Skyrim is almost 12 years old at this point . Fallout 4 almost 8 years. Fo76 5 years... And only game they have close to release atm is starfield .
And bethesda is major company not five guys making indie games in their spare time.
