Does anyone else genuinely miss the 2000s?

I only miss the 2000s because the 2010 and this decade were/are complete undiluted shit, but in retrospective the 2000s were worse than the 90s so basically shit just been getting increasingly worse since the year 2000, but the decline greatly accelerated around 2011-2013 and its just a death spiral now
Remember the anti-war marches during that decade? No blood for oil? Nothing like that this decade.
They are shilling for war in ukraine FOR FREE and thinking they will survive a full-on nuclear war with russia, there are even some of them in this forum of all places
Smart phones weren't out yet, so you could still have a sense of privacy and adventure that seems to be lost.
There were smartphones as early as 2002, the hiptop was an almost-smartphone, same with treo and blackberrys

What we didnt have was the mental cancer known as "social media", you can do tons of shit with smartphones but most normalfags use them only for social media

Tho NGL smartphones are getting more limited because of that, gone are the days of crazy designs and features because for most people its just insta and tiktok
Music was certainly better back then, but I'm biased.
You're not, the problem is that the music biz has consolidated around music-as-a-product, something that started a long time ago except that back in the day it was derided by musicians and the public alike, being in a company band was considered the lowest of the low, and hiring record label producers to write your song made you shit-tier

Now shitheads like david gueta are what other musicians want to be, edm makes tons of money and the public things that the more corporate the song is the better it must be

Music has turned into the mcdonalds of entertainment

and somehow racism made a comeback.
Anyone with half a brain could tell that bringing idpol and racial pride back would inevitably led to racism because when you let one group being proud of their race and culture then the rest are gonna want to do the same, and if you dont let them then they are gonna assume they are being oppressed, and technically they have a point
The only thing I remember about the 2000's is Avril Lavigne because I had a crush on her as a young man.

She went straight to generic pop chick singing about boyfriends and sex after the 2nd album, what a letdown

It was the same with shakira, burgers only know her from her slut mid-2000 english launch over there but she actually started in the 90s being a latina version of alanis morisette but less cancer and less feminist, then went 100% SKANK over there like cristina aliguera and others from that era
Not trying to argue but I never saw anything of what you're talking about, dude.
Thats the thing, back then the crazies were isolated to the ass-end of universities and the deepest bowels of hell and were openly mocked in mass media, they had no power whatsoever

Then they learned how to leverage social media, but more importantly the overlord class of soros and others started bankrolling them to sabotage occupy since they were far more effective than the tea party rednecks at defending plutocrats

We are closer to the halfway point of the 2020s than the beginning now, and its been nothing but a bunch of faggotry and fearmongering, and now we have $10 cartons of eggs.
I remember when the 2020s were rolling around and everyone thought it was magically going to get better because of superstitious reasoning. That was funny.

Just this week I'm replaying Tony Hawk pro skaters 3 and 4 out of nostalgia.
The music's way more entertaining and jolly, the game's sole priority is gameplay and it's... Weirdly an all around looking glass from that era, where it wasn't necessary to be competitive or participate in rat races to just live peacefully or afford anything.
I do miss those years.

I miss some parts. On a personal level, the 2000's were pretty great. On a cultural level, you had some good tv, some mainstream music actually still had guitars in it, well for the first half of the decade anyway. The cringiest subculture was emo, which involved dying your hair and piercing yourself, not mutilating your genitals thanks to big pharma. The Internet was still fun.
But there was also shitty wars, shitty politics, the financial collapse in the latter part of the decade, 4 dollar gas in even the cheapest states, the rise of social media, and probably more horrors I could think of given some time.
An utterly bizarre decade where we thought we hit bottom with vapid celebrities like Paris Hilton, only for her to be replaced by a fatassed far worse version of her with an Armenian last name.

Fuck no, the Patriot act in 2001 was passed and the NeoCon bastard George Bush was the president in the 2000s. They started controlling and restricting our lives with shit like the TSA.

Plus, the music of the 2000s was fucking trash, and even more than the 1990s.

The only good things about the 2000s was that the internet at least was better at having free speech compared to the nightmare technocracy today.

I miss the 2000s because Betty White was in her prime then. God, I miss that woman.

...is this just a worse version of the 80s?

Obviously, take that statement and this hypothesis with a grain of salt since the 80s were before my time, but from what I can gather, it was a time with:
  • government-backed fearmongering that destroyed the average joe and seemed nearly omnipresent even in everyday life
  • a controversial republican president
  • a very homogeneous culture which payed lip service to ideas like diversity or harmony but generally pushed beliefs that ostracized anybody outside of a very strict definition of the norm
  • overwhelming power given to corporations, especially in regards to targeting kids, most of which was used to indoctrinate people into buying their toys/games with a barrage of low-effort, poorly-made products with nearly zero artistic integrity
  • constant and completely unwarranted fear of global destruction by something uncontrollable (that is constantly sold to the public as totally controllable to push sales and guilt people to further those sales)
there are other slightly-less applicable parallels I can draw (such as the total and utterly dogshit state of kid's media then and now), but I admittedly feel like I'm reaching a little as-is so I'll just post now to draw out discussion because it's making me curious

I'm obviously not suggesting that the 2020s and the 1980s were identical- hell, the latter was far better purely for the fact that buying a house was feasible for young people and the mainstream ideology was still objectively beneficial to the continued prosperity of humanity as a whole- but whenever I look at both their cultures side-by-side, I get a hint of deja vu.

Alternatively, I could be huffing copium so hard that I've lost all semblance of rational thought and am desperately trying to convince myself that the 2030s might bring some good with it by proxy of being in parallel with the 90s via my tinfoil hatting.

Russia participating in a atomic war would have the majority of their nuclear missiles explode on launch. I'd say go for it.

What the fuck is wrong with you?
Listened to Sum41, Confusion and Frustration in Modern Times today. I want to go back to those simpler times.

a very homogeneous culture which payed lip service to ideas like diversity or harmony
But it felt good. And it was different. It was magical.

Can you remember when you watched American movies and general pop culture from the 80s and 00s and you just wanted a gang of multicultural friends to go on global action packed adventures with?
It made Euros want black people in their countries.
THAT is how wack and awesome it was.

Out of all possible fantasies, the globalist, harmonic friendship fantasy is the best one.
And as time have taught us, it will ALWAYS be a fantasy.

That's one of the problems that led to our current dilemma in the first place.
you don't want brothers in arms, you wants companions that fill a quota because you were brought to believe it's "authentic".
you fell for the Burger King Kid's Club meme.

Just watched a few videos online, strolling through memory lane when it occurred to me. When it comes to late night hosts, there wasn't contempt for the audience, there was humor. When Arnold became governor of California, he wasn't treated as some existential threat, he was seen as good fodder for comedy. The Via Satellite segments on Conan still hold up compared to today's hosts.
