Ukrainian Defensive War against the Russian Invasion - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

Oleksiy Danilov interview: Ukraine counter-offensive 'ready to begin'

Ukraine is ready to launch its long-expected counter-offensive against Russian forces, one of the country's most senior security officials has told the BBC.

Oleksiy Danilov would not name a date but said an assault to retake territory from President Vladimir Putin's occupying forces could begin "tomorrow, the day after tomorrow or in a week".

He warned that Ukraine's government had "no right to make a mistake" on the decision because this was an "historic opportunity" that "we cannot lose".

As secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Mr Danilov is at the heart of President Volodymyr Zelensky's de facto war cabinet.

His rare interview with the BBC was interrupted by a phone message from President Zelensky summoning him to a meeting to discuss the counter-offensive.

During the interview, he also confirmed that some Wagner mercenary forces were withdrawing from the city of Bakhmut, the site of the bloodiest battle of the war so far - but he added they were "regrouping to another three locations" and "it doesn't mean that they will stop fighting with us".

Mr Danilov also said he was "absolutely calm" about Russia beginning to deploy nuclear weapons to Belarus, saying: "To us, it's not some kind of news."

Rest is at the source.

Well, it does say the blast got into the "engine room" and killed a couple dudes. That's actually a Mission Kill. The ship won't sink, but its certainly adrift and will need a tow. Hopefully they don't fuck it up like they did the Moscow. Even if they get it back to port, its not going to be fixed any time soon.
I read that 4 were killed in the engine room due to drowning. I.e a very big hole appeared. Presumably there’s two engine rooms which is why it could continue under power.

By all accounts the damage wasn’t as big as it could have been , the boats are effective in reaching the target but the explosive, in free air near the hull doesn’t do a whole lot. Needs to be more like a torpedo or a shaped charge.

Again, very interesting to see new improvised weapons made from basically consumer tech taking on traditional military hardware and winning. Minimal risk to the operator with radio control stuff. I imagine Russia would respond with RF countermeasures eventually.

F-16 can easily operate from a much shorter runwa
Like aircraft carrier, Ukraine has to clean a strip from debris, wrecks and fix a small runway during sunne
Humvees in Russia. What a hilarious turn of events. It would be interesting if these guys can make it to some of the bases or logistics hubs and wreck anything they find. I must say the Ukrainian backed Sep flag is a lot more kino than the faggy Russian backed sep flags.
White-Blue-White shares logistics with Ukraine. Their gear are superior to mobiks that Russia ships in who graciously donate any gear to insurrectionists.

I wonder if they nabbed one or two T-63s for comedy purposes.

No refunds.

They did succeed in containg the fire to the ship. And extinguishing it by pouring lots of water on it. So extreme success! Best Navy Ever.
Worked for USS Boise in WW2. What was a powder flash from an underwater hit to her forward main gun magazines could have turned into a full detonation if not for the water pouring in. Of course she did have to deal with a ton of water in her hull, but better that than the ship breaking apart.

William Spaniel has a good video (sorry if posted) on Ukraine's very own little green men. As is well known Belgorod was part or claimed as part of the shortlived Ukrainian People's Republic in 1918, but rather than irredentism, this was patently fuck with Russia-ism. Covers basics like UA themselves crossing might be complicated, so use others. Sees long term benefit as Russia can no longer use leave green units at the border and now that Russia has to cover these hitherto quiet areas with experienced forces, this should improve the prospect of a counter-offensive breakthrough of some sort.

⚡️Poll: two thirds of Ukrainians oppose (https://kyivindependent.com/untitled-53/) negotiations with Russia.

A Razumkov Center poll has found that 64% of Ukrainians oppose direct talks with Russia before the war ends, while 23.1% are in favor of negotiations.

Furthermore, 67% of respondents refused to accept returning to the pre-Feb. 24, 2022 boundary of Russian-occupied territories in return for peace.

As long its managed correctly and not misused, Ukraine has low trust elements, tens of Billions might disappear instead of buying weapons from Lockheed & Martin
I doubt its just going to be handed over. More likely the powers that be are intending to create a trust fund for the purposes of rebuilding Ukraine. What better source of seed money then Russian assets foolishly left in western bank accounts prior to the war. China should probably take note of this if it wants to take a run at Taiwan.

Corrupt actors under Zelensky already took 60 billion for themselves, rebuilding Ukraine and who manages it shouldn't be someone like Hunter Biden, who profited off corrupt Ukrainian officials.

Escrow accounts, absolutely anally retentive control and vetting. Corruption was something that allowed occupation of Crimea in the first place. Them regional ruler ordered to defuse explosives set on Kirsch bridge.

I'm awfully optimistic post Soviet Union Slav country, aren't I?

For those who don't know, the painting is being done after the lifesaving, most likely as a way of giving thanks.

Pay no attention to the dumbass "muh warhammer 40k" crap.

And some good news for those worried about our readiness:

IIRC @Pocket Dragoon worked in logistics during his service so I'm sure he'll have some stuff to chime in with.

At least they got to keep them; all of our plates damaged by rounds had to be turned in & DX'd, no exceptions (unless it belonged to an officer). But I know a couple guys that accepted a statement of charges for keeping theirs after they took hits, "I lost it in the field, honestly".
Not surprising; we did things on that scale in 2003, until the Iraqi drawdown (considering we left everything else in Afghanistan).

Also, some of those vehicle exercise tracks were already built, mostly by the Germans, but also in places like Aberdeen, Ft. Sill, Pueblo, etc. But by 2003 when I went in, everything had been repurposed or grown over. We had one at the kaserne, but half of it was used for driving tests, the other had warehouses built over it by the Army in the 80's.

I was just a lowly mechanic so I worked with logistics, not in logistics. :tomgirl:

But I also did recovery (M88 ftw), was responsible for the unit's tooling, moonlighted in the arm's room & rode guntrucks. Between that and going on more TDY than was healthy, I got around a bit more than the average motorpool chud.

Thus I was riding along when we sent our battalion vehicles to the port, some by rail & others OTR, and picked them up in Kuwait. It wasn't WW2 but there was a fucking lot going on back then, and I often wondered what it was like during a really big war, because I could tell that what we were doing was only a small fraction of what was possible, in terms of movement of troops & vehicles. But we spun up pretty quick and by 2005-06 moving multiple BCTs was old hat; looks like this time it took less than a year to relearn things, which isn't bad.

Fuckers thinking my religion is WH40K. Painting icons is what Orthodoxy has done since the beginning.
As a semi-unrelated note, I do hope after the smoke has settled Kirill is recognized as the heretic he is; and that those died defending their homeland, and those who Putin sent to their death, are recognized.
