Debate Android raptor on the ethics of caring for retards

Still incredibly scary and stressful. I'm thankful I'm as functional as I am and can easily see how people end up on the street because of shit like this (especially people w/schizophrenia or other more serious issues that might be less capable of navigating all this stuff and making call, emails, etc).

My psychiatrist told me I'm like the 10th patient she has going thru this exact issue, so it's a widespread problem. I know a federal ban on source of income discrimination is something I've seen people in the disability community advocate for, since landlords refusing to accept housing vouchers disproportionately affects us.
Bluh. The guy in charge of section 8 in my county outright told us that if we tried to file a discrimination complaint, we'd be laughed out of the office. If I was his boss, I would have fired him on the spot.

Not that any of the places in this county would even consider taking Section 8 unless you were near the places with crack dealers. Most places charged above market rate, and that was before COVID.

Yeah the places in mine are either seniors only, or noted as being particularly dangerous. I'd rather avoid that as a woman that lives alone.

Recently there was even a huge scandal where an apartment complex in the metro area that housed many sect 8 residents was condemned it was in such disrepair. The city made a fund to rehouse the residents, but some of them ended up in complexes noted as being particularly dangerous.

It's a huge problem and red states are more than happy to let it happen.
Best bug found? You piqued my nerd interests here.
Big centipedes in Florida, those were dope. Pale-banded field roaches I've seen a few times and lost my shit too. Want go try and collect some and start a colony.

If you get a colony of roaches I want to see. I can't keep anything like that in my current situation but once things settle down I want most likely an eastern hercules beetle (or another yellow bananaey lookin beetle idk they live very short lifespans anyway) or maybe an isopod colony (I know not bugs but still associated with bugs.)

Dear lord, that's just depressing. Around here, a lot of the buildings were built in the 1920s, so even if they were at market rate (which they aren't), they likely wouldn't meet modern housing code requirements for Section 8. Hell, the apartment I lived at before this one had a death trap door leading to the laundry room; the door swung out towards you and had no space to move after opening the door, so you'd fall right down the stairs, cracking your skull on the pavement, trying to open the door to take your laundry up.

That just sounds like the old school Projects. I wonder how many died as a result of this neglect?

I don't know but I've seen articles about people getting sick from mold and stuff in poorly-maintained complexes. The more dangerous ones also have issues with violent crimes like robberies, assaults, even murders. Unfortunately there's so few protections for renters and low-income housing in my state that its a problem that's been allowed to fester for years.

Jails and prisons are becoming the main place disabled and mentally ill people are housed :(

Oh I've kept roaches in general since I was 17. I have 7 species right now, including a feeder colony of dubia.

List everything you're currently keeping, what are you feeding the dubias to?
Dubias are for spiders/geck/any other bug eater I might have. I have hissers, giant cave roaches, dubia, smokey brown roaches, horseshoe crab roaches, extinct in the wild roaches, deaths head, and one rhino roach.

I didn't choose the bug life, the bug life chose me

I'm envious of your bug life. I want the bug life so bad. You can finally say "I, android raptor the short bus riding retard have someone that's jealous of something in my life"

I've had sect 8 for years, the problem is finding housing that accepts vouchers in a state that has less and less every year and meets all my needs. My state has no ban on source of income discrimination and even most slumlords these days refuse to accept vouchers (because there's a housing bubble and they think they can get more throwing out voucher people and gouging the rent than what the gov pays them. Yes, this is a huge part of why people w/disabilities and mental illness have such a high risk of homelessness).

Blackrock and other out of state investors funding all these scuzzy property management companies doesn't help either.

I know what types of jobs I can work and for how many hours a week, its just what I really want to do requires a bachelor's degree and I can't work and do school at the same time. And right now, I can't do either until I get my housing situation sorted. My brain is pretty much at-capacity with the shit it can handle as is.
I’m glad you have a psychiatrist on your side helping you navigate the labyrinth of public social services. Keep in mind that the reason why it‘s a labyrinth is because the government (both state and the feds) don’t actually want to give you any services. Red state or blue state, doesn’t matter; people on social services are bad for optics. I say this as a political centrist — in America, your duty as a citizen is to work for someone else until you die so that the wealthy don’t have to share what they steal from all of us. They are all as rich as kings, rich beyond the hopes and dreams of you and I.

With that being said, I encourage you to apply for school anyway. Your local community college should have folks on campus to help you with social services, and many local colleges offer housing for students. It seems to me like you have strong skills in writing and critical thinking at the very least, as well as a good sense of what your liabilities are in the workplace, which is honestly way more than most people have. I don’t see any reason why you would need to be on disability. Work life can be hard for a lot of people like us — I work largely independently and I am happy that way. I am a bit undisciplined sometimes so I live highly regulated days and set daily goals for myself. School will challenge you that way, but if you do it right, it will also teach you discipline as well as how to be proud of your accomplishments.

Be patient, young grasshopper. Someday you will be able to live the bug life as well. I have hope.

If the autistic guy of gallops back and forth whilst waiting for the trolly and getting off at university; And you can give Simi nuanced arguments on the farms. Then you can go to community college. They have student services in place to help, be it financial, disability services, so on.

The real question is do you actually want to or are you just saying that because that is what people want to hear.

I know people who want to go to school so badly and travel far for an education.

I want to, I just need to get my housing situated first. Dealing with both trying to find housing and taking classes at the same time is something I can smell ending in the psych ward.

If you weren't dealing with calling everyone a pedophile online, that would free up a lot of time, improve your mood, and you'd have tangible results at the end of the day. Take a week off from shitting up A&N threads, put your phone in a drawer from 9-5, and engage with the reality within arm's length. Your terrible anger problems aren't being helped by this place.

Homie I come here to blow off steam and unwind. Pretty different than doing actual work.

in my opinion, caring for retards is a must because at the end of the day, we are all human no matter what we looks like. humanism must be uphold in this bleak modern world.
Civilized societies always care for their more vulnerable and weak.
That however does not mean we encourage people to embrace their flaws and weakness, in fact, we should do the opposite, and promote youth, athleticism, strength, health and stoicism in front of adversity, combined with compassionate care for those in need.
