‘The Little Mermaid’: Chinese State Run Media Warns Disney To Stop Pushing Racism Narrative Around Fairy Tales Or They Will Lose Their “Magic Glory”
Let's hope they take this lesson on board for the live-action Snow White remake releasing next year... starring a Colombian Snow White... with no dwarfs because Peter Dinklage said it's prejudiced.

I fucking hate Hollywood so much.

Tell me the difference between left and right?

I meant the allegations that Walt was some manner of closet nazi, not the academy award winning kino

Walt fucking hated commies like would not piss on them on fire kinda hated them.
Oh definitely that's my view as well. Walt hated commies hard, so of course once coomie like celebrities and producers become dormeint long after his death they were do all in their power to make people believe he was a closet Nazi the same people also constantly shit on John Wayne's legacy as well because he was an anti commie advocate. If he was alive today he would not only make sure someone like Bob Ignor never become CEO of his company but also get Ignor blacklisted from the entertainment field completely
.

All those Disney actors that act like shitheads on Twitter would be told to shut up. Like serously these fuckers are lucky they weren't alive when Walt was around

I always remind myself that Hollywood can't stand conservatives and obviously would love to destroy the legacies of guys like Walt and John Wayne because those men were successful conservatives who had a wide audience and would remind people that hey isn't it werid that there aren't that many active vocal conservatives in Hollywood unlike long time ago?

keep in mind The Duke worked just fine in the pedowood studio system, so he wasn't _that_ conservative
fun story about how long it's been diddlers top to bottom:
Shirley Temple has an anecdote about auditioning for Dorthy in the MGM Wizard of Oz
Auditioner whipped it out, she noped and wasn't cast for the lead.
Judy Garland got the part.
And she played Dorthy too.

While I agree with most what you wrote are a few issues

1. Disney doesn't have to buy Hulu, there is one out, they are allowed to sell their shares instead, Comcast who own the 33% have said they would be open to buying Disney's shares instead. Long term maybe a bad move, but the cash on hand injection would be very useful.

Comcast chairman and CEO Brian Roberts then also went public, calling the streamer “a phenomenal business.” He added: “It has wonderful content, and I believe if it was for sale, put up for sale, Comcast would be interested — and so would a lot of other tech and media companies.”

4. Disney has $48.4 billion debt as of December 2022, down from $54.1 billion the year before. So the level of debt isn't worrying as long as they can continue to lower it year on year. However the risk comes from what else you have posted, such as Hulu and things such as Disney+ subs losing, MCU not bring in the profits they once did and a number of flops in coming out such as Little Mermaid and Elements. Hulu it's self will add billions to the debt, while the others may make it harder for Disney to lower their current debt.

Just so people see how crazy Disney budgets are
Little Mermaid $250 million (needs to least $600 million on the low side to make money)
Elementals $200 million (Spider-Verse 2 has a budget of $100 million, the Mario movie $100 million again,)
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny $300 million+
Haunted Mansion $157.8 million (Dune cost $165 million, Godzlla vs Kong had a budget of $155 million)

No reasons any of these movies should have budgets close to what they do, how the hell does Haunted Mansion have a budget over $50 million. How did the Little Mermaid cost $250 million when it looks so ugly.

Disney issues also aren't helped by them being unable or unwilling to create fresh ips to replace old ones or even take the heat of something like the MCU so it has more longevity. Then you have the FOX buyout where they bought them, stick the big ips on Disney+ then massively gut them, so they hardly make anything despite the fact they were profitable pre-buy out.

For context for those of you watching out there, Little Mermaid seems to have slightly underperformed in the US, and kind of was a dud outside the US. But it made $95 mil on the weekend, excluding Monday. By comparison, the Super Mario movie made almost $146 million in the US on its opening weekend, or with Easter Monday $166 million. (With opening Wednesday, and Easter Monday, $225 million US.) 20-30% more, and there were not reports of half-full theaters on opening weekend. Plus the softened opening due to the Wednesday screenings.

I'm expecting the box office to drop like a boulder.

And how many theaters devolved into chimpouts? Now that's a metric I'd love to see.

I would say it dramatically underperformed in the U.S. Box Office Mojo shows only 117 million domestic gross. Keep in mind that studios make less money off ticket sales outside domestic (ticket sales are roughly halved depending on the territory) and then next week you have the new Transformers and the Spider-Man animated. There's no way it'll retain #1 next week. Absolutely no way.

I assume the break even point wouldn't even be 500 million considering just how much went into marketing. I think it's a safe bet that the break even point is closer to 700 million.

This bombed hard.

Another reasons why you shouldn't make a movie for chimps. It's a waste of time & money. Theatres will be ruined, someone is probably going to die & the movie will bomb.
And how many theaters devolved into chimpouts? Now that's a metric I'd love to see.

The Little Mermaid Gets Review-Bombed So Hard That IMDb Changes Rating System

They're just gonna straight up "correct the record" lol. The only winning move is to not buy a ticket.

I went to a theater the other day to see a different movie and couldn't help noticed the theater had posted some photosensitivity warning for mermaid right at the entrance and I'm not sure if this is an actual warning issued by some organization or the employees taking a piss out how god awful the movie looks since this is the same theater that for months had googly eyes and a fake mustache glued on to the indy 5 poster in the main concession area.

I noticed this was posted at a theater, too, but I didn't get a good look at it. I think it's bloody hilarious that we have to have these photosensitivity warnings on so many of these movies now, but they only get posted once someone complains because it's clear theaters don't screen them ahead of time to let patrons know by day one "Warning: If you're a fucking weakling, watching a movie on the big screen in the darkness is going to cause your eyeballs to explode."
