I believe the reason Ralph choose to move to Mexico was indeed based on your explicit advice against it, but what made him pull the trigger and abandon his comfy crack shack life was his legal issues, we did have the whole "service avoidance" arc immediately after the move.

He met his appointments because he is a cowardly woman that folds immediately once treat of retaliation materializes, specially if its jail related, he's traumatized from his last time behind bars. That's the one thing that scares him more than the british.

But no, a litigant's time isn't going to be comped, absent lumping it into some kind of punitive award, which isn't going to happen. It was over 9k closer to 10, he didn't pay it. Harry didn't say he did either, all he did was post the itemized bill, so I think it's still owed. As for moving expenses they left all of their trash in richmond and drove down to mexico with pantu's 6 shirts, her anime girl skirt outfit, and Ralph's wardrobe, chair, and garbage alienware PC. They had no furniture, no appliances, no baby items except for a stroller+carseat combo that they then lost on the way to italy.

I know you don't like Vickers, but it cost Ralph over $8,000 just in lease breaking and damage fees so he could run away to hide in Mexico, plus the expenses of actually moving, plus the frequent travel expenses, plus the -20% loss in revenue due to the dollar collapse against the mexican peso, all to run away scared from a $500 dollar fine.

Even if Vickers doesn't get the attorney fees back, Ralph is STILL at least three times over in the red from this clown show.

Vickers is spending tens of thousands of dollars to fight a pig monster who wouldn't have to be in his life if his daughter had aborted the guntling, given the guntling up for adoption or didn't declare him the father in exchange for below average child support payments. The child support is $800 each month, which means that this case alone has almost cost as much as one year's child support before we even factor in Ralph's costs that he obviously can't send on to the guntling or Vickers for that matter.

The grand plan, as I understand it, is to hit Ralph with legal costs and eventually have him lose parental rights, while also still having him pay child support. That's a very optimistic long term and it assumes that Ralph lives long enough for the scheme to become profitable and that he doesn't move to another country to avoid paying. The latter is definitely a possibility since Ralph is a good Z-boy who corrects his whorse when it pronounces "Wagner" incorrectly. He is also friends with Andrew Anglin, who has managed to evade a 14 million civil payment for 4 years despite being much higher profile than Ralph. Some of the Z-boys live in Russia itself or non-recognized breakaway states like Transnistria or South Ossetia.

I do think Ralph was very jealous of your international man of mystery life, but I also think he was dumb enough to think he could "escape" to Mexico in a panic last summer. Only after doing so did he realize that legal issues could sink his passport and he actually needed the ability to go back and forth to the USA after finding out about Mexican residency and other matters. He is the ultimate half-assed thinker and thought squatting in Mexico could be a full proof plan, but found out otherwise. The description of his move to Mexico sounds like the ultimate shit show, with May and Rozy having to wait for expiediated passports because this shit was so half-assed and panicked. Once he got there he realized it was not full proof and he still needed to show up to court not to get totally fucked.

It does make Ralph 100% insane that you are opsec smart and aren't prone to bragging, so nobody knows where you live. They'll sometimes take it on contingency and you can basically just give them the whole award if they can collect it. Probably not against a broke loser like Ralph, but it probably wouldn't cost too much to do a single motion on the issue.

There was no concrete legal benefit that Ralph accrued from moving to Mexico other than making it much more difficult to be served, which he negated anyway by going for visitation and holding in-person events within the United States. I think there were multiple reasons why he moved but the legal issues weren't one of them.

It's not sanctions in the Rule 11/ frivolousness sense, I don't believe. Vickers initiated the action, but more importantly, in CA, attorneys' fees can be awarded if permitted by statute or equity. The civil procedure code section (1218(a)) cited by the Court in its opinion expressly permits a prevailing party to move for attorneys' fees if the losing party is found in contempt of court:

a person who is subject to a court order as a party to the action, or any agent of this person, who is adjudged guilty of contempt for violating that court order may be ordered to pay to the party initiating the contempt proceeding the reasonable attorney's fees and costs incurred by this party in connection with the contempt proceeding.

(This provision also mentions costs, so though I still think Vickers' own time [particularly the hourly equivalent of his own earning-rate] is unlikely to be awarded, I might have spoken too strongly the other day earlier today in saying costs claims are stupid to try; however, on balance, I'd be conservative to preserve good will going forward...because there will likely be a next time. Or in other words, to quote you, "The last thing he should be doing is just making shit up and acting like a retard.")

Haven't looked further to see the standard to be awarded attys' fees, beyond some discussion of what level of fees might be awarded (meaning actual vs reasonable, though I'm amused to see that CA's analysis is termed the "lodestar" approach, which is something I once said here that Ethan doesn't have, and he was not long after that seen to have a tab open or up looking up the word ), but the language of that rule doesn't suggest it would need to reach Rule 11 levels of frivolousness. On the other hand, I spent all of 10 minutes looking at it, so.

One consideration that might be weighed is the size of the award vs the amount of attorneys' fees claimed - in this case, it's possible that even if awarded, fees payable by Ralph could be cut. Again, don't know if there are binding rules about it, but I did see the relative amounts mentioned as a consideration.

In any case, the Court pointed Vickers to the statute (code) that creates the right to move for fees. Certainly he could fuck that up with a poor pleading, but for the minimal cost of filing the thing, it doesnt seem unreasonable to file.
