You can laugh at something without endorsing it in real life, dude.

Why is my opinion of a show I found grotesquely disgusting and offensive and not funny in the slightest suddenly a big deal to everybody? Those are the reasons why I didn't watch more than one episode - it's like you guys are defending it or something because I thought it was crap when I'm not even the one who said there were abuse jokes in it!

So what about Flapjack was it about methheads or something?
Flapjack was startlingly dark. It was as close to Courage The Cowardly Dog as you can get these days.

Look, I loved Adventure Time. Rebecca Sugar was a big part of AT, she wrote a lot of songs for it, especially for a character who was all-but-canonically accepted as bisexual. There were two bisexual girl characters. People picked up on it, and now that gay marriage is legal in the United States it is literally all but stated in the show that the two girls used to be a "thing". But the thing is, it didn't get in the way of anything. That's not what the show was about. Even in episodes that featured the girls heavily, there was still actual characterization happening and not just "gee wow lesbians". Eventually Sugar decided to go make SU, and I think she took a lot of AT fans' reactions to the bi girls to mean that she could create a show specifically for Tumblrinas.
I've seen a lot of Tumblr stuff about SU, and honestly I cannot tell you anything about the show except "there are lesbians in it and the dad is fat". It seems tailor-made for SJWs. Everyone is fat, is a minority, or has supposed mental problems. I can't say I've seen a single episode, partly because I don't want to end up liking it and having nobody to discuss it with except gender fiends, and partly because there doesn't seem to be anything in it for me. It lacks the fun sense of humor of AT, it lacks characters that have character and not just attributes, and it doesn't even seem to attract kids.

I have seen stuff in it that is enjoyable but lately, it feels like it tries way too hard to tackle on issues like emotional abuse, consent, morality, in ways kid cannot possibly enjoy it.

Pixar films deal with these things in way more tactful ways while still appeal the kids.
The things a kid might like about SU are Peridot, Steven and Amethyst, but SU barely focuses on the fun of these child friendly characters, and dwells on Pearl's weird Snape level of fixation with Steven's dead mom.

SU feels preachy and pretentious in its half assed attempts to resolve problems.
If you thought Avatar Aang got annoying whenever he preached his pacifism, SU takes the award for pretentiousness.

Representation in kids' shows isn't a bad thing to go for, but this show puts the cart way before the horse. You want to create a property that appeals to kids, and then put in some good stuff for the parents and older folks. SU starts with "we need to support queer people, pee-oh-seas, and other marginalized people, and make it look like my 90s animes!", and then just sort of hopes the result is colorful enough to appeal to kids. So all it really succeeds in doing is parroting progressive ideas back to the twentysomethings that already agree with them.

On the Ed, Edd & Eddy porn, that's honestly not all that shocking. Animators have always been fucking weirdos behind the scenes.

What the fuck happened to Tommy in the 10th panel?

You know, a lot of people say that SU is dark and deep on Tumblr but I just don't see it. Mind you, I grew up on 90s cartoons but still. All I see is some woman being tryhard with a few messages, that's all. I feel like if kids grew up watching SU they will be more whimpy, sadly.

It's certainly not as raunchy or dark as Billy & Mandy that's for sure.

I wonder, why did CN greenlite this? SU doesn't even sell toys, and not many little kids watch it, the audience is all whiny teenagers and tumblr adults. Invader Zim had good ratings but was cancelled because it attracted adults rather than the intended child audience.

How is SU still on air?

Invader Zim was actually cancelled for some really bullshit reason like "not enough earth centric episodes" or something like that. After that there was rampant merchandising. Jesus Christ the merchandising. It's still happening to this day.

SU probably won't get cancelled until some really nasty shit the creators may or may not be currently doing gets leaked. Like the Ed Ed and eddy porn thing but with Stevens penis instead of Ed boy's penis.

I thought Invader Zim got canceled because some kid brutally murdered a Distract Attorney or something and said he was doing it because in one episode Invader Zim needed to steal bodies parts to seem more human?

-Edit-
I was right

I don't know where you guys are getting your information but a simple Google search brings up that it was just cancelled due to ratings. The "target demographic" - which was apparently 11 to 13 year olds - didn't like it. It was very expensive to produce. This was before periphery demographics was as much of a force as they are now, since it was pre-MLP/Brony, so Nickelodeon saw no reason to keep a costly show that wasn't popular with the people who were supposed to like it. Plus, Nick isn't too big on straight-up freaky shows, which may be why Making Fiends was also cancelled after a very small number of episodes.
Now, SU came out post-Brony, so studios are realizing that as long as someone is watching the show and buying merch, that's good. Plus, older teens and adults have their own money, which they will spend on merch. I guess that's why it hasn't been cancelled. What I don't understand is how they can still air so many episodes. Regular Show was a more teen-centered show, but they didn't air twenty episodes at a time like they do with SU. Adventure Time is popular with teens and kids, but they rarely play episodes from that anymore. It's mostly Teen Titans Go! and We Bare Bears or Amazing World of Gumball playing all day, with breaks to "Steven-Bomb". I guess it's more popular than I thought?

There's a few CN series that didn't sell merch throughout the years, even during the 90's and early 00's. I'm guessing t-shirts and other weird stuff doesn't count.

What is weird is that SU is aimed for very young kids unlike say, Regular Show. I would expect CN to take advantage of this toys wise. Whenever I go to Walmart I see Powerpuff Girl toys after all.

Weird!

Now that I've found out about the EEnE porn, I have to wonder why Tumblr, the site that states a 23 year old dating a 19 year old is pedophilia, is defending her so vehemently.

Tumblr has zero problems with shota because theyre all yaoi fangirls. Condemning it would require them to take a critical look at themselves and their own community. Which isnt what social justice is about, its about looking down on other people for not following your arbitrary and constantly changing code of social mores to the letter.

Tumblr isn't one huge consciousness .
People are willing to look the other way to things they like.
see: chris brown and the million of other celebrities

Su fans are still cancer though.
Bullying some kid over drawings or being happy some sped died because they liked a pairing a fandom they didn't like is cooky.

At the same time we're kf so sperging and over reacting to stupidity on the interwebs is up our alley.
