God, I cannot get over how STIFF the characters look. The backdrops are gorgeous and then BAM, the ugliest puppet-looking dino fursonas with little to no emotions.

I do like the music even if it's a little too hipster/Life Is Strange compared to my usual tastes.

It sounds like the game went from a dating sim to a LiS knock-off so it probably started off not even having animation, I don't remember if they were posted on KO_OP's twitter or someone who worked for them but there was some WiP

Wednesday, 6/14:
Co-Director Saleem Dabbous announced that the game is now "content complete" and now they're focusing on polish and bugfixes. Dabbous also confirmed that the demos were made in early March and lack the game's current level of polish. (Source) (Source 2)
Editor's note: I have no idea why or how they made a demo that couldn't be updated or worked on in parallel with the final product. You'd think everything that went into the demo would just be the start of the actual game and they could just fix that and have the start of the game, but what do I know, I don't get millions of dollars from the Canadian government to exist.

Tribeca Festival updates:
Tribeca announced that GVH has won the Tribeca Games Award, making it the third game to receive this award since its inauguration. (Source)
Digital queer magazine INTO featured GVH in their Tribeca coverage, calling it "the next step in cinematic adventure game storytelling". (Couldn't find a source, they should have picked a better name for their magazine)
Stack Up's review of the demo says the experience was profound and that GVH is "shaping up to be one of the most important stories of the year". (Source)

Actually, I think it's been like 5 years. GBVH had been in development for two years before the shit storm with the writer's kotaku article.

Imagine spending five years on this shit and it's not going to be any better than Life is Strange - at most, it'll be a torturous romp if you're sober and alone, but there might be some good laughs to be had with some friends and a lot of alcohol.

This is actually pretty common practice. Because demos need to only include parts of the game and also might need to have special things adjusted for the place experience generally better to create a special branch just for a demo. Depending on how much was then changed for the demo experience itself it might be easier or harder to migrate changes from one branch to another and so usually most devs just let the demo branch rot as it is a pain to keep them in sync and also QA tested.
