Titanic tourist submersible goes missing with search under way

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I didn't realize the viewport situation before, and the cut corner nature of the construction of this "vessel", now that I looked into it and all it's hubristic points of failure leads me to believe that they all died instantly not long after losing contact.
There was no "contact" to lose, the retard who designed this thing deliberately didn't have any.

Couldn't, like, 90% of this whole FUBAR situation been avoided by a few hundred dollars of high-test cable on a spool, so that there was always a tether to the mothership?

Wouldn't have stopped them from imploding if their hull failed, but at least they would know where they were.
It's already risky getting tangled in wreckage on the floor, it shifts, and the underwater current makes navigating in even a good submersible risky. IIRC not too long ago a russian sub got stuck in the old propeller on a trip to the titantic, and they almost suffered the same fate but the operator was eventually able to dislodge it. I'd imagine a 12500 foot cable tied to a minivan sized sinker in the abyssal zone is probably even more risky.

Are young people being inspired to pursue this line of work now? I mean, they used a vidya game controller! Isn't that what all the kewl kids know about? And young people work there! Isn't that super important when it comes to safety?
Well, hey, they may all be dead in a pile of their own shit and piss with bloated blue faces from spending their last few minutes gasping pathetically like caught fish, but at least they were woke enough not to put up with those lame ass 50 year old white men and their racist bullshit about "safety" and nonsense about gummint regulations.
Top marks to the tour guides for giving them the authentic Titanic experience I guess.
The Titanic was hungry and pissed off they got everyone off but the poorfags last time. It wanted some billionaires.

Yeah, I wasn't so much thinking about a cable in the sense of being able to haul it back up, more just a bread crumb type system so you could always find the damned thing if something went wrong.

Idea: A 250 meter cable with a small buoy on the tip that is constantly sending out a ping in both radio and sonar. The buoy is just a sphere of two halves of solid steel with a Raspberry Pi and batteries for 3 days of constant operation, with a small loudspeaker to serve as sonar beacon inside. It gets screwed shut with big ass nuts and bolts and there it stays. That way you can always have a easy way to tell where the sub is without the big issues the cable would offer, especially if you make it so said loudspeaker sonar thing is always broadcasting a specific tune or rythm so anyone with a sonar detection can know what to look for. Hell you could even make it a thicker cable and have it also serve as a possible recovery in emergency situations by having a claw system that just goes down and ties a recovery cable to the buoy with a small unmanned recovery drone.

There, I didn't even need to really try and I already put together about 10 times more safety features than this fuck mongoloid of a CEO did. This shit wouldn't have cost more than 1000 bucks to put together (the buoy thing, not the recovery claw. That one would be actually much harder to do and expensive) and it would have at least made the location of the sub always a sure thing at least and not literally a needle in a haystack forever and ever.

They're probably dead, this sub is more of a "cheap and cheerful" submersible that's driven with a 3rd party Xbox controller.
This is the worst part of it for me. They didn't even get a first party controller (or at least a decent quality third party) they bought the cheapest, shittest controller I've ever used even brand new. Like the controller itself alone tells me they didn't go "budget" cheap, they went "poverty" cheap and I hope they all were crushed instantly when their ceramic tin can imploded.

Apparently the portholes were only rated for 1300 meters and Titanic is 4000.
Plus the thing was carbon fiber and had never undergone sea trials before they started operations, carbon fiber is notorious for delaminating under low temperatures, and becomes brittle under constant load stresses.
The whole thing was an accident waiting to happen.

This is the one reason I kinda hoped they might find an rescue them. These smug rich dickheads going on a media tour being told what total retards they were for weeks.

That and they won't be able to see all the great memes, that's the real tragedy here.

So basically this death boat was nigger-rigged top to bottom.
OceanGate is certainly going to sink following this titanic blunder.
Why did GamerGate kill again?

Here is an explanation of what "contact" means in this case:
Fucking short TEXT MESSAGES

This pile of trash is a fucking death trap. Also How can the LEADING Titanic researcher be so dumb and happily walk into this thing after signing a waiver that tells him all the horrifying ways he is going to die?? He already knew what a functioning sub is like and yet he chose the swimming coffin??

A conspiracy theorist would say that it's all part of the plan by 5 rich guys to disappear. But we shouldn't forget that many people are really that dumb.

I find it really hard to understand how all of this went so wrong. Those poor people.
It went wrong at the very beginning because the retard running the operation, who is now dead praise allah, thought he knew more about this shit than experts in the field (he fired at least one). This is hubris meeting with nemesis. This is a natural outcome of the world and you should only feel sorry for the French guy who was just driving the sub.

If any real sailor dies during the search for these retards I will willingly go to hell to torment them endlessly for being such useless pricks with more wealth than sense.

The Industrial Revolution James Cameron movie Titanic and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. The industrial-technological system retards who love that movie for more than just the scene where you see that lady's tits may survive or it may break down.

Yeah, they cheaped out on this shit. Fucking 250k a ticket, didn't even spring for the Xbox Elite, just a $30 ancient controller. 'Good enough' doesn't work for undersea exploration.

What a fucking joke. Though what a great metaphor for modern capitalism.
hey tbf it's got vibration. the pilot will know if they hit something that way.

Tinfoil hat:

They saw something they were not meant to see, something giving credence to the conspiracy theories about the sinking/identification of the Ship. And/or this was a malicious act to prevent people going down the wreck anymore.

After the craft is found, there will be a 'no dive zone' around the site for 'safety' reasons.
Ah, yes, they absolutely need to manufacture a disaster to prevent all the families that come out to the wreck of the Titanic in their 9 figure submersibles and turning it into a watered down picnic site.
Seriously though, even if they wanted to make sure nobody got down there, who the hell is going to enforce it? That's not how international waters work at all.
Getting to the Titanic is already pretty monstrously difficult, and it has detoriated to the point where it's far less recognizable than 40 years ago. Soon, it will be little more than a mass of vaguely shiplike rusted metal. Your post was retarded.

On another note, I'm hoping they went out via rapid depressurization, I wouldn't wish the slow route of slowly asphyxiating over a period of days while waiting for a very unlikely rescue even if the sub was found on anybody. I'm also baffled that they didn't have any kind of redundant system to send up multiple types of beacons to the surface. That's absolutely insane, it's already hard enough to search for lost surface ships and planes lost in the ocean, good luck narrowing down the search area for something 12,000ft under.
