The only reason the media played up the "are they alive" act is for views.

Yeah I only just now learned they were officially dead, figured from what I had been hearing bits of that there was a search team and everything out and there was some hope, even if it was really small...if they actually knew it was an implosion before all that spin or knew they were for sure dead that'd be pretty lousy. but unsurprising for the media. I barely listen to any of the things they say these days

wut? Find me a submersible with an internal frame. Monocoque is the name of the game here, titanium spheres with steeply beveled portholes and extremely thick high strength tubes are the only things that will survive down there. You can't rely on a frame because the spaces between frames are inherently weak. Pressure vessels never have frames, the skin has to be strong enough to not crush between frames anyway so all they do is add weight. There's no inherent flaw with monocoque construction here, it's basically the same thing as every other submersible other than the composites, the problem was that it was designed and operated by idiots. Xbox controllers and regular computer monitors aren't what you use to control a deep sea vessel, and you don't "not hire 50 year old white guys" because you want to be "inspirational" when you're trying to design something that has to be safe in an extremely demanding environment. The people who run this company are cavalier dipshits and have no respect for the gravity of what they're doing.
I would also point out there's a reason a lot of super deep sea manned subs tend to be balls with hatches and/or viewports attached to a chassis which is not a pressure vessel, and in cases like Alvin, a shroud around that ball.

Much stronger design for the actual pressure bearing parts than a tube, and especially a tube made out of a material with let's say uh...long term durability issues related to almost every single environmental factor it is subjected in that environment at those depths.

But you can't fit 5 people into a steel or titanium ball without prohibitive cost to make said ball, so here we are.

Kek, check out the reviews for the controller they were using.

I've been using the controller for a little over a month now and it keeps randomly losing connection. Often it loses inputs or just gets stuck at for example left or right. I cannot return this any longer (i have gone past the 1 month return leeway), but I do warn new purchasers that the wireless connectivity is not great at all. I have tried new batteries and several different usb ports on my home set-up but the same issues arise.

I'm an angry gamer. I tend to get a tad annoyed at the games. The first thing that has to bare the brunt of this anger is the controller...

This requires the controller has high build quality.

Using the controller at first was good. It did what it needed to. However upon my first angry outrage, the case broke. Not a simple break either. The side needed a glue-gun to hold it in position again. The extended section for the screws had come away entirely.

The second outburst was it. This broke the left-analogue stick (it is just a random quivering mess now) and the digital down no longer works. Even though, with some testing of the board, they are actually still sending signals to the chip.

Whilst having the thing open, I noticed that the build quality really is poor. Some of the parts even look hand-soldered, where I'd expect plugged-in components. A daughter-board soldered onto the main-board, which could've been the downfall of the entire thing... but I'm hypothesising.

It really was a nice controller but it isn't for someone like me that will treat it badly.

I can totally see how this could have gone down. Doing precision maneuver to view the titanic wreck, when suddenly "le gasp" cheap off brand XBOX controller loses connection! Quick, do a reset! Rotting hull of the Titanic gets closer and closer. Pajeet starts screaming poo words and shits himself. Everyone else just stares blankly as the weak ass viewport bubble "boops" the side of the Titanic. Last thing they see or hear is thousands of PSI of Water crushing them like Pasta Sauce, while the stern of the Submarine is blasted hundreds of meters away by the rapidly compressed air bubble causing a massive release of kinetic energy.

The only reason the media played up the "are they alive" act is for views. If you just come out and say it was an implosion, the story is dead on arrival and this obviously became an international smash hit because they did the opposite. Based on everything that has come out in the first day or two it should have been obvious to anyone paying attention to the details that it most likely imploded due to the ceo guy being a complete egotistical delusional retard.

It's been the rule since day one of humanity that when a person holds great wealth they begin to think of themselves as gods, and that belief still persists today clearly.
I think you might be on to something

Okay the kid is the only one I give my sympathies to.
I know that some of you are going to say "well I would told my dad no!" but kids at that age still want to prove their worth to their parents (especially if there's a billion dollars worth of inheritance at stake) and hindsight is 20/20.
Not me. His aunt said he was terrified of the sub, and he didn't trust his gut feeling. The billions would have been his because the fight with his dad would immediately be over with his death. He was too gutless to trust his gut and too witless to pretend he had diarrhea and couldn't go.

I'm sure he didn't mind all the wealth and privilege growing up, but unfortunately you have to take the good with the bad, like trying to keep on your rich parents good side, and what do you know, he still lost the inheritance. If he's that useless he'd be a retard with a billion bucks. Besides which he's a WEF Paki and its good that he's dead. Poopskins don't belong in the West. For added irony, the 19yo's name is Suleman.

As for hindsight, only the living experience it. I'm sure Suleman the wise experienced hindsight between the door bolted shut and the catastrophic implosion. Now all the hindsight is with the living, like the heirs, or the fired engineers.

I'm not buying this shit was a distraction op or the government trying to memory hole something. It's an open secret the US Navy has some advance tech to detect submarines and submarine related activity, but they don't want to really explain how this works since it'll just give other countries intel on how advanced this tech is. The Navy likely suspected it from the get-go to be an explosion but the coast guard wanted to confirm there was debris before going public about it. The "Search and Rescue" shit would be to appease the families that they should have hope until they can confirm everything.

Myself and I'm sure many kiwis knew the moment this story was a thing that the vessel had exploded. You can't tell me right now OceanGate checked for metal fatigue, something extremely important when you constantly dive to depths like that.

Who the fuck decides to go in it holy shit. Its a claustrophobic nightmare and an awful way to die. I feel awful because there's a young kid with them.

But its fucking bolted from the outside who the fuck drank too much when they designed it? Trapped in an elevator at the bottom of the sea...
And one of the victim's sons just getting out of jail.....the twists and turns good god.

There's so much about this that is lolworthy but it is also a very frightening and stressful event. The fact that they fired a guy who tried to get the word out that it was unsafe AND the thing that happened with the CBS reporter...the red flags were everywhere.

(Wonder if Cameron, DiCaprio, and Winslet will say anything)
Cameron being the Oceantard that he is certainly will.

And he has:

I'm sure there's something about the British guy too, just need to think about it more.
he has records for deep sea dives and has been to space iirc. like the kind of person who has been in vessels that actually work. to use the poor wright brothers like everyone else it would be like finishing up your successful plane then signing a waiver to try out the wings tied to your arms suit some schmuck is claiming is the new evolution in flight.
