Actress Kate McKinnon, who stars in the upcoming Barbie movie, recently explained the the film is “about how gender roles deny people half their humanity.”

McKinnon’s comments came amid an interview alongside fellow actresses Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, and Issa Rae with Fandango correspondent Naz Perez.

Perez began the interview asking Robbie to provide some more details about her comments to BAFTA where she revealed her first reaction to the Barbie script was, “The first time I read the Barbie script, my reaction was, ‘Ah! This is so good. What a shame it will never see the light of day. Because they are never going to let us make this movie.”

Robbie said, “I thought exactly like, ‘This is genius and they’re never going to let us make it. What a shame. This is all going to go to waste.’ Just because I think it’s a little more unexpected. It’s not just that the movie is unexpected, I think it’s like Greta kind of pushes it in directions that I didn’t think they would let us go in and I think a big part of that was acknowledging the things that people find problematic about Barbie as well as the things that people love about Barbie.”

“And to be able to do both whilst also kind of having a relevant conversation about where the world is today and then also be acknowledging like this long 60+ year history,” she continued. “It’s just a lot of things to do at once and she does it so deftly and ultimately the whole experience is still fun. Like it’s so fun and weirdly emotional.”

“And at the end of it all, you’re not even really thinking about a doll you’re thinking about what it means to be alive in the world and it gets unexpectedly deep,” Robbie explained.

Robbie then shared, “The reason I didn’t think they’d let us make it, honestly, is because the Mattel CEO is like a main character, Mattel itself is a character, and I just thought, ‘They’re never going to agree to this.'”

“And then there was a lot of jokes in there that I was like, ‘They’re not going to let us get away with that.’ But they did,” she concluded.
Later in the interview when the discussion turned toward how they identify a Ken, Issa Rae said, “I think a Ken for me is just kind of there. I think a Ken is just a great accessory. That’s what I loved about Greta’s imagining of Barbie is that the Ken’s are just supplemental characters to these Barbies while Barbies can do everything Kens are there to kind of support and don’t necessarily have their own story.”

She added, “And I think that’s not necessarily a negative thing. It’s incredibly strong for men to be in supportive roles and to support the greatness that is women/Barbie.”

Kate McKinnon then revealed the script is “about how like gender roles deny people half their humanity and how like we need to just like be ourselves and it’s a like a very powerful message.”

When attempting to explain how she identifies a Ken she said, “And so like I spot a Ken, everyone’s themselves, you know.”

Life is a matrix & Hollywood can't help themselves.

There's a sheriff getting his ass chewed right now for letting anyone get close to them.
Feds relying on the local and state PDs for cover is probably going to be where this shit finally breaks down. Feds tend to treat state and local PDs like half-witted gophers and are amazingly patronizing and arrogant during joint ops, using the carrot of resource allocation of Federal physical assets and training programs and the stick of upper management coming down on rank and file to keep the grumbling at just grumbling.

The problem is that many local PDs don't vet their recruits anywhere near the level the alphabet boys do, so there's a non-insignificant number of rank and file with covert sympathies with dissident right positions. Sooner or later, there's going to be a leak, probably after some half-wit Chief or Captain decides open grumbling about Feds is no longer allowed in the locker room or around the donut shop. TPTB are remarkably stupid in their obsession with making sure no one can vent about anything, then get the surprised Pikachu face when it blows up on them.

Yeah, that won't work out long term

Lol. Those fuckers are bootlickers who were too scared to join the military. They'll be on the side of the feds, possibly directly opposed to their state's government.

I'm not going to deny there's a lot of bootlickers. You're not going to rise above sergeant without being one. But if it comes down to it, a significant portion isn't going to show up for roll if it means possible use of live fire against an undifferentiated mass of civilians. That number will rise to the majority if the Feds are stupid enough to deploy State police to the communities they live in. Even most bootlickers love their family and friends and aren't complete psychopaths willing to blow up their own towns for the government.

Not saying most will join the opposition. I'm saying most will just leave to take care of their own if the shit hits the fan like that.

Stimulant-fueled American Ingenuity or Glowop

I can't even tell the difference, but the former seems like there's a interesting story behind it.
It was the sort of genius plan only a Hollywood writer could come up with. You take out the power, knock out all the security systems, send first responders all over the place, and then you break into a corner store, empty the register, and then finally have the Feds track you down and send you to Federal Pound-Me-in-the-Ass prison for several years when you could have just done a smash-and-grab on the store at night and wound up paying restitution and six months in county with a good lawyer and a guilty plea. All for less than a hundred dollars, when all was said and done.

Translation: 42 Billion to be used in overpaying for shitty broadband straight out of 2008

Also I am liking the breakdown of the DeSantis campaign. It really puts into words all the problems it has. The obvious attempt at playing another Romney is so obvious it hurts.
The fundamental issue with a Republican campaign in current year plus eight is that the donor class and the base are diametrically opposite of each other. So they’ll either have to do what the donor class wants and just march towards failure with 30-40% of the total voter base showing up (likely) or they’ll try to win elections and have the donors and the system screech nonstop (unlikely). They tried the latter in 2016 and found out the hard way what happens. We are now back to the era of losing with dignity and principles. Mitt Romney can now pretend to be pleased with his party again.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer group of people.
“You must add more niggers in Congress”

t. The U.S. Supreme Court

To think this group is supposedly going to overturn affirmative action. How else are Amy Coney Barrett’s signal niglets going to find a job?
