10-15 films over 10 years or so. I think there never were more than 2 marvel movies per year, and some could be more or less ignored if you didn't like it (not watching antman 1 won't make much difference for example). the only other thing was agents of shield, but that was mainly it's own thing.
however you can only string along the audience for so long, the hype and anticipation will inflate at some point, usually after the big climax - and we're way past that.
Ha, maybe at first, but once the gravy train started, Disney didn't let off the throttle. Phase One was six movies over five years, back when they were still trying to get this shit off the ground (did you know Avengers was the only MCU movie out that year?). Phase Two was also six movies, this time over three years, two every year. Then Phase Three was a whopping
eleven movies over four years, two in 2016 then three every year for the next three.
Then the coof happened so scheduling got messed up, but that didn't stop them from spamming movies as soon as they were able. Phase Four was seven movies in two years, four in 2021 and three in 2022. The current Phase Five slate is another seven movies over just under two years: three this year, three next, and Blade squeaking in just shy of two years after Ant-Man 3. Phase Six has three titles announced so far: Fantastic Four in 2025, Avengers 5 in 2026, and Avengers 6 in 2027. But there are also three more movies to be revealed penciled in for 2026 release dates.
And that's before getting into the TV series spam, now that they've decided to start weaving those plots into the jumbled mess as a way to sell more Disney+ subscriptions.
Eight different series over 2021 and 2022, with a new show coming down the pipeline barely a month after the previous one ended. It's slowed down a little bit now, but there's still seven planned for this year or next, and eight more in various stages of pre-production.
Yeah, it's no fucking wonder some people are starting to tune this shit out.
They're essentially doing the same bullshit which ruined American Comics after a while. They're making it a homework of sorts to follow which becomes obnoxious to follow after a while (in this case, it might be around 10-15 films, & even that's being generous).
I mean, if you want to get technical, you don't
need to watch other movies to follow the latest capeshit. It's not like these are written in any sort of complex fashion, the plots are pretty simplistic and outside of a few references that might make you go "what?" you should be able to follow easily enough. But for anyone who actually wants to experience the whole story, it's getting to be an increasingly tough sell.
Right now, if you wanted to catch up on everything before (ugh) The Marvels came out, you would need to spend 71 hours on just the movies alone. Three fucking days straight! Add on the TV shows so far, and that's another 40 hours. Tack on another two hours for the two D+ specials, and that's a total of
113 hours just spent watching all this capeshit. Oh, and let's not forget that two more TV series are coming out between now and then, so better add a few more hours to that number! That's a big fucking ask, and pretty much a guaranteed way to get sick of capeshit if you're not already.
I honestly can't imagine being the sort of person who's actually hyped about capeshit at this point, especially the MCU. It peaked four years ago, the horse is being pulped nowadays.
