You gotta take the good with the bad. Twitter has also been an essential source for the Farms in both finding and following cows. If Twitter goes, our own little autistic web forum will be so much the poorer for it.
There were cows before Twitter. There will be cows after Twitter. Cows are eternal.

Yet Twitter has been an invaluable tool in finding and cataloging these cows. If it goes, yeah, there's other ways to find them, but the content to milk would be much drier. Hell, the MovieBob thread would probably die overnight.
To tell the truth I'm pretty bored with MovingBlob. All he does is be fat and wish death on people.

Twitter is literally ruined, this is what happens when a gazillionare takes over a business and has no fucking clue how to run it.
they're either gonna revert this tomorrow or twitter will unironically shut the fuck down.
Very big hit into the businesses on twitter that use it for updates to general public.
This is not just twitter frontend, shit like 3rd party apps are so completely fucked already since all the guest API does now is respond with {}.

As I was writing this post, this has been posted on nitter matrix channel:

How would this not be a good thing? Twitter is the Nigger Faggot of websites. It's the Great Cancer. All I was hoping for Musk to do was destroy it. lol

Like yeah, I'm sure the people who have been doing GamerGate style archiving for ten years will be upset, but Twitter ruined the world. So yeah, good riddance.

I'm sure if Twitter ever goes to shit some ((investors)) that just started a new site will be able to ((convince)) all the hollywood stars and musicians to move over. Then you'll just have Twitter again, except they'll make sure some pot smoking billionaire can't come in and troll everyone into insanity.

You can't successfully do Exoduses on that scale. It only works when it's a smaller website to a larger one. It's why 8chan failed, but Tumblr successfully moved to Twitter. Nothing that comes after Twitter could possibly match the damage it's caused.

I agree with your overall sentiment about Twitter being the Great Cancer of the Internet, but putting a wall around it will probably cause as many problems as it solves.

If the niggerfaggots of Twitter didn't do so much egregious shit, their actions wouldn't need to be archived in the first place. Anything that interrupts the archiving process is a win for them.

Twitter also acts as a containment zone. The problem is that (((TPTB))) have a direct pipeline right into the heart of said zone, or at least they did until Musk came along. Though now that a WEF stooge has been installed as CEO, no doubt this pipeline will be restored if it hasn't been already.

It's the pipeline that's being used to shape the narrative, and therefore attempt to subvert public opinion (with varying degrees of success), that's the real problem here.

To say that I'm conflicted about Musk's latest move is an understatement.

a reminder that tumblr used to be the Great Cancer of the Internet, and then it died
look at how that turned out
as much as I fucking hate Twitter with a burning passion, it is in fact a great website for comprehensively cataloguing the thought processes of terrible people and keeping The Great Cancer contained
I wish it could just die already, so so much, but if it does then its userbase will explode like a wart and infect the rest of the internet once more like the shitty plague that it is
and it will be much much harder to track degenerates

Tumblr went to Twitter. Where is Twitter going to go to?

The cancer was never contained there. It always had a direct pipeline to companies, marketers, politicians and celebrities.

reddit can get worse, as can instagram, and there's always loads of smaller communities to decimate
just look at what happened to Neocities, the Fediverse, Comicfury, most of 4chan's boards even if they're nowhere near as small as the other examples...

Only once the people who perpetuated the cancer not only acquired disposable incomes but also required incomes of their own. Aside from ESG score, the only reason companies are kowtowing to this so heavily is because they need new workers and the vast majority of new workers are young 20-somethings who've either been wholly infected by The Great Cancer or have been touched by it enough to where pandering to the infected will draw in the lightly brushed.

Reddit is a neckbeard thing. It's not getting any bigger than it is. Instagram can't be made into another Twitter, neither can TikTok or whatever else. Anywhere it goes, its power will be halved or worse. It would be like sacking Constantinople. Sure something else can come after it, but it's not going to be on the same level imo.

What internet is left by now, though? What's left to ruin that hasn't already been ruined? When Tumblr's exodus happened the internet was already "smaller" than it was in comparison to barely a decade beforehand. It's gotten even smaller and more centralized since then.

Must be like looking into some freakish, mind-fucking mirror for most kiwis.

The cancer was never contained there. It always had a direct pipeline to companies, marketers, politicians and celebrities.
Exactly. Everyone on twitter - especially politicians and market researchers - seemed to believe that twitter was representative of normal people, as opposed to a highly self-selecting group of freaks and perverts. Everyone believed that it was the future of marketing, but anyone with experience quickly realised that there was literally no benefit to using twitter, accompanied by a great deal of expense. Twitter should only ever have been a flash in the pan, one of a thousand similar ideas that never went anywhere. It had one, brief moment of utility during the arab spring and then was immediately hijacked and funded as a propaganda tool.

Twitter's cultural impact was the result of its centralised nature and the way it constantly bled the "right" ideologies and positions into everyone's feed. Even tumblr, for all its reputation as a cancer hive, didn't work quite that way, but rather allowed people to create echo chambers that only occasionally suffered intrusions of the wrong thoughts. There's no exact analogy for what happens post-twitter. It will be like the great scattering. Even if they all migrate to the fediverse, with the intent of recreating twitter wholesale, they'll end up isolating away into their own carefully curated backwaters, where there's no chance of interaction with plebs and wrongthinkers.

Well, since twitter's locked the fuck down yet again, only replies you see are from blue checks, and reporting blue checks bounces them into the trash, I can safely say, this thing has regressed into the way it was before Musk takeover.

Twitter says I'm being rate limited and is completely unusable atm for me. Is Musk breaking shit again or is this just a me issue?

Edit: Appears to be a global issue.
