Ukrainian Defensive War against the Russian Invasion - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

Evidence is emerging that the UK has secretly been supplying Ukraine with fighter planes for some time now: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-65955365

Here we see a destroyed British Hurricane fighter being dug out of the ground by Ukrainian soldiers:

Allegedly the UK has been sending these Hurricane fighters since as early as 1941 in anticipation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russia is already condemning the appearance of Hurricanes on the battlefield as a serious escalation, but insist they have already shot down over 20,000 of them.

While the Hurricane is an older aircraft, it has a reputation for reliability and is quick to train on. It's no F-16 but can probably still hold its own against Russian Sukhoi Su-57s. Ziggers are afraid.

(Yes this is a joke post, still some neat WW2 findings all the same lol.)

UK confirmed to be allies of the Nazis.
Barbarossa started in 1941, and mysteriously UK sends planes to Ukrainian Nazis?
NATO truly is the fourth reich, and Ukraine war is all of Nazi might against the underdog Russia who just wants to be left alone.

It seemed weird they found eight of them in one spot. Further reading reveals the eternal Russian was up to his old tricks.

But some Hurricanes were deliberately broken up and buried after the war so the Soviets did not have to pay back the United States. Under the Lend-Lease legislation, the USSR was required to pay for any donated military equipment that remained intact after hostilities ended.
This was the fate of the eight Hurricanes found buried in woodland south of Kyiv

Eh, can't really blame good ol' Stalin for that from any kind of practical perspective.
It was obvious that USA and its closest allies and USSR would be incompatible.
If roles were reversed and USA was the one in dire need of aid, and USSR was the one providing, i for one would had hoped that right after the war some shit like this was going on instead of naively believing some kumbaya peace circle to happen. Enemy of my enemy might not be my friend.

Didn't know them going to such extents considering how much of an open secret it was that their entire war effort was backed by the capitalist west.
If i were one of Stalin's underlings, i'd probably do the same.
At that point anyone in any kind of position of power weren't in their position because of any kind of meritocracy anyway. They got their postions because they didn't get purged, and despite their incompetence they were the ones who managed to not fail too hard. Welcome to late 40s Russia, comrade general.

It wasn't just the USSR who destroyed Lend-Lease hardware to avoid paying for or returning it to the United States. Post WWII Australia dumped a fukton of L-L merch into the ocean with the full blessing of the Truman Administration. As he didn't want L-L weapons (small arms) returned and possibly in the hands of the American people. Most likely USSR also got the same permission and blessing from Truman just so the United States wouldn't have to facilitate transfer and disposal of everything when it back state side.

You jest, but....

There was a book I read decades ago about a German warbird squadron put together by aging WW2 Luftwaffe pilots for one last grasp at glory & revenge. They had their guns & cannons reactivated, hid their airfield in northern Mexico (IIRC), and started hunting Allied warbirds at air-shows. Finally the USAF (or Navy, IFW) sent some F-15's or F-18s after the Me-109s, resulting in a protracted dogfight in which the jets were damaged and/or shot down. The final fight was between the German squadron commander in his 109, and a P-51 rearmed by another WW2 veteran.

It was a ridiculous premise but an entertaining book, although until DCS (and Ukraine) I thought warbirds (or drones) wouldn't have a chance against (most) modern fighters. Although unsurprisingly the A-10 mops up warbirds easily, so if the Russians start digging out Il-2 Sturmoviks to use against Ukraine, and the A-10 is being retired from US service... well.... just sayin'

WW2 fighters vs modern fighters in a true and honest close range dogfight, the WW2 fighters wouldn't do too badly

But modern fighters would never get in a dogfight, even if they used all their missiles up or didn't have any and had to get in close and use cannon. If their pilots weren't retarded, they'd climb and dive and repeat until the WW2 fighters were gone. There'd be no tactic the WW2 fighters could use that would counter the modern fighters' much faster climbing speed and higher ceiling. Maybe they could dodge a few times, but getting in a position to really fight back would be nearly impossible

Babe wake up it's the weekend and time for the Glenn Greenwald traditional post. This one is actually worth watching in full, Glenn invited Mearsheimer.
Screenshot 2023-07-02 213302.png
(is it possible to get Rumble working in the Media tag?)
Glenn will be silent through a lot of the episode, most of it, and will repeatedly try to bring back the discussion to his preferred subjects, Nuland, "we are at war with Russia because who governs East Ukraine", "but let's analyze this from the Russian perspective" and so on, but Johnny boy doesn't really wanna play ball (80% of the time) and instead goes on long explanations of "both sides" which include acknowledgments that this conflict is nearly impossible to fix through diplomacy now and that Ukraine, now bound to the West and dependent on the US, has legitimate interests and fears. John M. also acknowledges that Russia is a mortal threat for Ukraine and it likely want to completely neuter it, take as much land as possible, and leave the rest as a rump, impotent 3rd world state in ruins. Which is, well, undesirable for Ukraine.
Of course, do not expect endorsements of Ukraine, but at least Mr. M is not painting Russia as an innocent victim of US imperialism.
In fact, he repeatedly states that Russia annexed parts of Ukraine and wants more, essentially recognizing it an old-school colonial power. He is also stating that Russia "cried bloody murder" on each NATO expansion, but the only reason they didn't go further was because Russia was too weak under Yeltsin and later Putin's first term.

I never said it was accurate; only that it was entertaining, and somewhat plausible. :tomgirl:

A new Ukrainian trailer for the counter-offensive just dropped:

I know all about modern fighters vs WW2 fighters from Harry Turtledove Worldwar when the aliens invade in 1942 and all their vehicles and equipment are somehow an exact copy of mid-1990s NATO military technology lol

Mid-90's? I thought it was mid-70's.

That said, Turtledove is... not the best when it comes to military equipment. His Hot War books repeat the meme of Shermans brewing up constantly, when in reality a couple Wehrmacht vets would be damn glad their guys are getting issued Shermans over anything else that was used by the Allies in WW2.

P much just that.

The thing I love about this is that the same could be said to apply for the US Military. Free housing, free food, free medical care, there is no reason you couldn't take home your entire paycheck.

Nobody does. There are mustangs to lease at 28% interest, strippers to tip, Strippers to marry, booze to drink, fuck ups to make so they take half your pay, and to say its free housing isn't right, its better to say the rent is $0, because you will be paying for it in otherways - Someone fucked up? Well time for a formation! And moving out of the barracks virtually ensures you'll have a dependapotmus to support.

The Russian one leaves off a bunch of information too, like the valuable life skills you'll gain when you commander forces you to be a gay himbo.

I think most of Vatniggers and Associates don't realize/understand that Mearshiemer is a Cold War Realist. He isn't pro Russia in anyway, just believes in Spheres of Influence and that they should apply to the United States, Russia, China, etc.

So, when the United States and NATO engaged in soft power expansionism in Georgia and Ukraine he was critical of it as he thought it could only lead to conflict. Thing is, the people of these areas don't want Russian control because the Muscovite Empire, and its retarded communist child, were kind of shit. Abkhazia is a good exception that proves the rule, in that they hated Georgians before the Ruskies showed up so their identity is closer to Russia as Russia is happy to play along with their national story.

Realism is a pretty good theory once both sides agree where the influence begins and ends. However, when one side falls apart from it's own hubris and then turns around claiming to be just as strong as before, entitled to the same sphere while also being a complete ass at every level the theory cracks under the weight of the hubris.

From what I remember some of the aliens' technology was super advanced (cold sleep, fusion) but most of it was straight 1990s. Like what we had in the 1990s, 1970s designs upgraded with 1990s computer stuff

Turtledove has a fetish for tanks going up in spectacular asplosions, doesn't matter how accurate it is, if there's tanks in a Turtledove book, most of them are going to explode like a Bay movie

The Strike Eagle entered service in 1986, same as the M1A1. So I guess we're both wrong. But I always got the feeling the Lizard armor was more like an M60A3 than an M1A1 considering the bitch basic M1 bazooka could wreck one.

Only if it hit in the side or rear and not always. Gotta give some leeway for artistic license too I guess lol

Uncharacteristic opinions from the Serbian president. If you can ignore the NAFO seething in the replies and final proclamations that "Serbia is pro-Russian", there is no reason to not hope for a realignment like I always did. There are some Serbians on the replies pointing out that Serbia supplies a lot of artillery shells and that the protests that were pro-Ukraine were larger in size than those that were pro-Russian, but some of these people that constructed an identity out of this war still won't have it, gotta demonize everyone that's not a full ideological match.
Can't archive, Ghostarchive, archive.is, they error out for Twitter now.
Nice job Elon. At least I can browse the site from my suspended account.
