Sony hate thread

Which companies? And for which games? Or were they just saying that 50% of their sales were digital "in general"?
Well, Square-Enix for one.

HD Games:
The HD Games subsection generated ¥78.5 billion ($580 million) in net sales, a decrease of 10% compared to last year.

Square Enix's HD games for the year included Forspoken, Octopath Traveler 2, and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion.

The big titles in the previous year were Outriders, Nier Replicant, and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Additionally, the publisher revealed that it sold 22.44 million copies of downloaded and packaged games during the twelve months.

Downloaded games accounted for 15.85 million units, whereas physical titles sold 6.59 million units.

So, that's all games sales altogether. That isn't accounting for any one game in particular.

We all know that both Outriders and Forspoken sold like shit. Digital sales didn't make up for their lackluster physical sales.

While overall digital sales seemed strong, the crux of the article is that full year sales actually dipped 6%, despite that.

We aren't arguing about what S-E's fiscal 2023 was like, we are arguing about what its rate of physical versus digital sales is. You say its mostly physical, I say its fifty-fifty. The actual article says we're both wrong and its really 3-1 digital. Though I'd put a big asterisk there and say that that number includes PC games- where physical releases are a rarity, to say nothing of purchases as well as old shit in online sales as well as the fact that Japan at least was still super scared of the coof early last year.

Edit: And its not "all game sales", its "all HD game sales" they separate out mobile and browser shit into its own categoery.

Forget sales numbers, I've barely heard anything at all about FF16. I didn't even know it had been out for like a week now. I'm not seeing stuff about it popping up on YouTube, I haven't seen any ads for it, and I'm only really seeing any discussion about it in this and the FF thread. Final Fantasy's one of the biggest franchises out there, so I'd think it'd be inescapable for at least a month. FFXV sure was.

I am 100% certain the PS5 exclusivity is crippling it. It's funny, the PS5 itself seemed to lose a whole lot of momentum right out of the gate due to launching during the reign of Her Highness Corona-Chan the First, and then the damn thing was effectively unavailable for years due to the chip shortage, and now the $500 price tag is increasingly uncomfortable in our shitty economy. And now FF16's out, but only for PS5, at a time when everyone else's thing is hotter than PlayStation. Xbox has Game Pass, Valve has Steam Deck, Nintendo has 6-year-old cell phone hardware that's never price dropped because they're unstoppable, and Sony has a bunch of wokeshit and also Final Fantasy XVI.

Its fun to wish but two hour old data from my local Walmart says that PS5 is sold out while a single Series X remains. Plenty of Switches of all varieties (including the Zelda one) available for everyone.

And I dunno man, I've been hearing a shitload about the game this past month.

The article is only counting overall sales numbers. As in, its adding the sales of every game released that year together. It doesn't say anything about any individual titles. Whether its counting just "HD games" or mobile and browser games is irrelevant. For some titles, digital sales may be over 50% . For others, they may be under 20%. We just don't know because we don't have those numbers.

The only reason I know its out is because many vtubers are playing it.

The PS5 is always sold out. That's the point. The damn thing is never available because Sony never has a enough, and scalpers get whatever goes on sale first.

We can only go by the numbers we have in front us, and for console releases, physical is still the preferred the method of getting a game. For all we know, this game moved only an extra 30,000 units digitally.

Bullshit! I gave you last year's numbers. They sold way more digital than physical. And its not like S-E releases mountains of console games. If the game did half the physical sales of previous titles then the logical conclusion, given last year's data, is that it sold at least 50 percent of its sales digital. Be glad I'm accepting that its release was only "just as good as previous FFs" and not that it actually sold 3 times as much digital and blew XV away.

There have been 6 PS5's in stock (or at least there are boxes in the case) at my nearest walmart every time I go there for the past 3 weeks.

I found it really baffling and am just convinced people stopped looking. There are like 4 Series X's too.

Maybe nobody gives a shit about Final Fantasy anymore?

Especially one that is Final Fantasy in name only?
Maybe so, but your second phrase as applied to FFXI onward depending on who you ask, FF just means "game with very big budget from Square enix and chocobo's and summons are involved". I'm still blaming the PS5 exclusivity, yes, FFVII remake sold a lot better, but leaving aside that VII is still a nostalgia monster, it also came out on PS4, I'd be very curious to know how VII remake would have performed had it been PS5 exclusive.

No, that's not the logical conclusion. Dude, just give it up. You are desperately jumping to conclusions to try to convince everyone that this game isn't a flop. It isn't working.

But it is. And I'm predicting that it will be dumped into thrift stores by the next week, even if I could be wrong.

From what I'm told, this game is almost Devil May Cry

Which I think puts it into the "Final Fantasy in name only" category a bit more than say FFX or FFXII

We were pretty much already there by XIII and XV though, I agree. Which only furthers my point. Why would people keep giving a shit when we're three (five? six?) games in now and it's just FF in name only?

@whatever I feel like
Are these real PS5s or the cuck (digital) edition?
Didn't care enough to look. Most niggercattle I know, which is the PS5 target demo, never seemed to give much of a shit tbqh so I would expect them to still sell in a Walmart.

Edit: I checked the Walmart website and I was seeing regular PS5s as they were in the white box and not hte black. It now says they are sold out at the nearest store, but the two other stores that are only around 10 miles away say they have them in stock as well as every store in a 30 mile radius to my main store.

I'm in the Chicagoland area too, so it's not like this store is in the middle of fucking nowhere.

Yeah, heard the same deal, I mean, the gameplay director wasn't the DMC guy? FFX I consider the last proper FF mechanics wise. XII I would file as a very strange experiment (which I liked for the most part), XIII onward has been the franchise fighting with it's own mechanics and I'm not surprised that after the Kingdom Hearts like from FFXV and VII Remake they just went fuck it and full action. Basically, something being a FF game means very little in practical terms, there will be giant chickens and there will be a sexy ice Witch thing, but that's about all you are getting.

So yeah, I agree that shit erodes the franchise, why the hell do I care if something is called Final Fantasy or Final Destination (Fox only) when they have 0 mechanical relation and the faintest of world building correlations? Dragon Quest and Tales at least has the decency to play the same for the most between iterations even though narratively they mostly do big breaks between sequels.

Now was this the reason it's flailing on sales right now? Possibly, I'm still gambling more on the PS5 dying than FF dying as a franchise, but I could honestly see it being the other way around or both. I certainly am curious to see how it's release on PC will go, will it be a second life or a wet fart?

I really should just give up. You're such a colossally retarded faggot that you'd think it failed no matter what the data said. Keep chugging your Kool-Aid, oohh yeaaahhhh!!!!
