Hohol is wrong anyways. There are large swathes of the US that are ethnic British, French, German, Mexican, African and Spanish homelands that never received massive immigration that changed the culture.


Dixie? Appalachia? Deseret? Acadia? New England? Aztlan? New Afrika? The Pennsylvania Dutch Country? That swath of "Spanish" in New Mexico that are an ethnic minority called Neomejicanos descended from the original conquistadors. The vast German and Scandinavian lands of the Plains.

The only part of that map that is not primarily peopled by the first settlers in are the big Northern cities. Immigrants everywhere, sure, but they didn't replace the locals, they melded into them. America was a mosaic of de facto ethnostates that all call themselves America. The difference now is that in most of those places the settler stock are now second-class citizens to minorities and the federal government has undermined their autonomy.

America wasn't a melting pot, people mostly sorted themselves into their own new homelands. That itself is multicultural propaganda. Even Europe back in those days had immigration. It's no ethnostate like European countries, sure, but foreigners have a sickening entitlement complex about access to it.


Edit: To cover myself, this map is just pluralities, and people of every group immigrated everywhere. But even at its broadest, American immigration mostly meant Northern Europeans. Even Southern Europeans and Eastern Europeans were considered sketchy "ethnic Whites" and mostly confined to the North and started coming in late in the countries history. There is a clear Celtic-Germanic Protestant heritage to the United States. American nationalists didn't just pull that shit out of their ass. And when you look closer you find that even that group was really more separated out, and the other groups were basically imperial subjects like those minorities of Europe - Basques, Sicilians, Occitans, etc. - that just happen, by historical accident, to be under the boot of someone else. The US didn't become really mixed up until about the mid-1900s, I'd say, when some really huge migrations started to ramp up. There was a sort of internal immigration that brought people like Blacks and Appalachians into the North, people like Italian-Americans into the South, everyone into California, etc.

Lived in a world where there was always some fighting going on somewhere, and on their own borders. I have no idea what percent of adult men would have fought in an Indian war but I bet it's way higher than the percentage of men now who have fought (not as a REMF) in the Middle East.

There were very few colonies that enriched the home nation, but everyone paid the admin and military cost for holding even the worst of them.

There is an instinct, at least in some people, to want to see your own people destroyed by their folly when they become too . It's foolish, though; the Taliban were incredibly malicious people - adopting savagery to fight savagery is like cutting off your nose to spite your face - and they didn't kick anyone's teeth in. The US had free run of the country for decades and killed a pile of them for every one we lost. One of the disappointments of seeing Russia fail in Ukraine is realizing that there still isn't a military force capable of humbling the West.

Besides which, the Taliban and Hussein deserved it. Trying to rebuild those countries was foolish - in the good old days you'd have a "punitive expedition" and then leave after smashing everything up - but they had definitely provoked us to the point of voiding their right to this earthly plane.

I don't see the poor quality of the Patriots as being a reason to not be proud of them, though. They fought. They improved. In the end they won. The guerilla warfare didn't kick the British out of cities, but almost all of the colonies were free for the whole war because the British faced Forest Afghanistan if they went out. The fact they were peasant farmers that soldiered through and finally won IS the appeal, it's the same spirit as every Hollywood underdog story. It's also why Americans love to play up the British being "the best army in the world" (fucking lol, France and Prussia say hello) and completely ignoring the much more important Indian theater going on.


*By equilibrium, I mean something like Nash equilibrium in game theory. The "correct" way to fight assuming the other person is fighting correctly. Something I've noticed about warfare is that it's also "path-dependent," the evolution of tactics and technology up to that point matter as much as the technology at that moment. Why use guns, for example, because if you didn't use guns they would go back to fielding armor. Why use infantry formations, because a bayonet or cavalry charge against troops not in formation will be a one-sided slaughter.

The collapse is basically inevitable and I think my predictions depend heavily on how exactly that happens, but either way, something has to rise from the ashes. I think people will look to history for examples of a model society that they should follow.
