I looked at the facility; it's big, but not like Azovstal or Azot big. Still, there's really only 2 directions for advance through this area, and this plant sits right on one of them. It's a pretty serious bottleneck, but I kinda doubt AFU will try to assault directly if it comes down to it.

I dunno Poso. Maybe it's because Russia has broken every agreement its ever made with Ukraine and if they are not forcibly driven out any "peace" will be a cease fire at best while Russia Rearms for round 3.

Ukraine has pushed it'd society and the economy to the breaking point for this war. They won't be able to do it again. Not for a long time and Russia knows this.

The irony is it was, during the rule of the previous Russian stooge. Ending corruption was Zelenskyyyyyy's entire campaign promise. While other, more capable people prosecute the war on his behalf, he's been purging corrupt officials and organisations (like the russian orthodox church and half the security service). All that purging of corrupt elements is suddenly badman evil acts to the very same people who were demanding it just a couple of years ago.

From what I've been hearing is that corruption is still bad, but the worst of it has shifted from the administrative side out to the private sector. Purge-ees who weren't arrested & didn't immediately flee to Russia or Europe, are still wheeling & dealing on their home turf, or next door somewhere (Poland, Romania, etc).

Also... I've heard from several residents & troops that many returning civilians (and military members discharged for bad conduct) have been of the criminal element, plus some foreign "volunteers".

Yet corruption on the front lines seems restricted to typical wartime shenanigans, like hording, grabbing unattended supplies/equipment for later/personal use, fake charity drives, etc. However it sounds nowhere near Russian standards of conduct. But since rear areas are rife with no-questions-asked funds & opportunities for embezzlement, there are definitely those taking advantage.

Still, my only frame of reference is from dealing with pallets of cash in Iraq, used to pay contractors & sandbag fillers. While a soldier/officer still had to sign for it the pallet, few (if any) questions were asked about disbursement. If someone doing a job said "I need $xxxxx to pay for _____", as long as it got done nobody said shit. And everyone knew that wasn't even the worst of it. If it was like that for us then, I can kind of imagine what's going on in Ukraine.

My hope is that when the fighting is done & the guys go home, they'll crush any fuckers found to be embezzling & stealing since they'll have the time & motivation. It'll still be a problem, but when the war ends it wouldn't surprise me to see another exodus of those who don't want to live in Russia, get painted green & thrown into the Black Sea, sent to a Snake Island gulag, or used to sweep for mines.
