I've has the misfortune to be involved with various narcs over the course of my life, and I don't think I'll ever stop wondering at their capacity for self destruction and their constant belief that they are always owed more. There are people in the world who will do anything they can to help others who need it, but instead of doing the bare minimum to flatter and appease them, the narc just screams at them for more and more. When the helpers are themselves in a bad place, the narc then piles on the pressure because the helpers aren't paying attention to the narc, and the narc can't have that. Like I said, I've seen this happen so many times and I know people with personality disorders are incapable of change. But it's still difficult to wrap my head around a narc's inability to realise that if they don't make at least a token effort of watering the gravy train, the gravy will eventually dry up.
Likewise, Polissa making regular token gestures of helping around the house could have kept Josh at least somewhat happy. Now Polissa has no one to cook and clean up after her, or bring in extra coin. They are both dreadful people, but they need each other to survive on multiple levels. It'll be interesting to see where they go from here.
