I loathe all those new races transplanted into DnD. I've never seen them used for anything that isn't degeneracy or mary sue-ism, especially when the writers insists on portraying the vanilla races as evil for xenophobia.
The Gith have been around for a long time. Since the early days of Planescape. Problem is, like you said, writers and players insisting on making these characters as Mary-Sues and stand ins for their degeneracy and politics. Tieflings are sadly major victims of this as they are the most popular race with the alphabet people.
