As a Disney Parks fan (from afar, I am not interested in visiting any park any time soon) I feel meh that The Haunted Mansion movie is coming out in like... two weeks? I don't want to watch it at all. Sure it has some references the super fans will go "I KNOW WHAT THAT IS" but it all looks executed so poorly.

Weird celebrity choices, over the top POC shit, out of place jump-scare shit .... naahh. Don't think I'm even going to pirate it.

On top of that, Disney has been handling the Parks like pure trash. Overpacking the place, overcharging, changing the rides, not maintaining current ones, having gross-looking employees who cross dress, ect, ect... It feels extra dirty to support a park franchise movie. Take care of your fucking parks before you whore them out, you fucks.

I'm more surprised that it's not coming out closer to Halloween because, y'know...

That would make too much sense. Take the kids who are hyped for Halloween to a child friendly horror movie? No you gotta park that shit right in the SUMMER!

Anyway the old fansite hauntedmansion.com has (or at least had I don't know if they kept all their original content) an article on the theme of The Haunted Mansion and it made me appreciate that ride ever so more. The Haunted Mansion is pretty scary (to a child at least) in the beginning, the exterior with its graveyard, then the elevator revealing how the portraits reveal comically horrifying deaths, and as a final crescendo the hanging body effect. Yeah that I remember being absolutely terrified by that ride.

But then you hope into the Dune Buggy and the music starts and all the ghosts are having fun, just a big ol party. The message is pretty simple "We're all gonna die, that's part of life. Don't be scared of ghosts though. Who knows maybe it's fun." It's not by any means a deep philosophical ride but it's a good spirit to have because well that's all part of the unknown.

I just don't think that transfers well to a conventional story. The haunted mansion ghosts are still to this very day amazing on a technical level, but to think they're going to carry the same wonder when transferred to CGI, well I doubt it. I think I'd only watch it if Danny Devito was playing Frank Reynolds but that's not going to happen unless the film was Rated R. Frank would be search the Mansion for his HOOOR Ex-Wife trying to get back the jewelery he gave her many decades ago.

Agreed but it MIGHT have something to do with the Nightmare Before Christmas overhaul the ride gets starting September…

Personally I’m not a fan of the Christmas overhaul because I’d much rather see the classic during Halloween rather than Nightmare Before Christmas.

I think a big advantage is that Japan's studios have far greater respect for creators, it helps that Japan's biggest anime franchises have mostly alive and active creators. Akira Toriyama can happily come in and out to lead DragonBall. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure stayed as a manga (besides one OVA for Stardust Crusaders) until the 2010s when a studio produced a faithful anime and the series boomed for a whole new generation especially in the USA. Look at Neon Genesis Evangelion Japan happily allowed Anno to procrastinate in making his theatrical trilogy.
This is a big plus...

The west used to have respect for animation, but the 2000s really destroyed the relationships between creators and companies. Disney has historically been awful for years, pissing off Bluth back in the 70s and then Katzenberg in the 90s and now currently Pixar, which they always had a rocky relationship with since the start. Nickelodeon used to have respect for creators in the 90s, but once the 2000s and the popularity of a certain sponge rolled around, they stopped giving a shit and became a death sentence for new IPs. Adult animation past Adult Swim was killed in mass past 2005 as Fox and Comedy Central got too comfortable and MTV just didn't care anymore. That just leaves Warner and CN, which historically seem to be the easiest to work with, but they have massive management issues extending into the 90s.

anime is mainstream by now. people that grew up with DBZ and pokemon are parents now. a single manga outsold the whole of american capeshit comics (which is probably part why the demon slayer movie made as much money as it did).
another thing to keep in mind that anime is still not shown as a main feature, while disneyshit and other animation is - that money is from limited releases and mostly asia. at the end of the day most normies don't even know the difference between "anime" and "western animation", for them it's all "cartoon" (ironically like the japanese themselves see it too).

I would say people know what anime is, but very few know any of the shows that are part of it nor want to, so it is still relatively niche. A Disney film like Frozen can easily destroy the anime market in both the West and Japan. Every normie knows Frozen, but the same cannot be said about Demon Slayer.

I would go against the notion that normies cannot decipher between western and eastern as most anime has the same relative art style. Unless we are talking about something like Avatar, most normies can tell a difference. Anime has a reputation the precedes it due to its audience, that most normies turn away when they see the particular style.

I feel like it may be due to there being two big, well known and successful (in parts) horror franchises having movies out in October (FNAF and SAW), so releasing then would have 100% killed any potential income (not like it would have any income anyway, given how bad it looks). Haunted Mansion may be a popular ride, but it doesn't really compare to the likes of a game franchise that has had so much 'lore', merch, spin-offs and other stuff vomited out that most people, even normies, would recognise a character from. And SAW has the squick factor, which is always a draw for Halloween. So it just got dumped at a random date instead because I think they have stopped caring about a lot of the movies/shows that aren't Marvel/Star Wars, which still get some hardcore dumb fan-bases watching them regardless.

not demon slayer, but pokemon, DBZ, naruto etc.

and normies don't know the difference, that's why they're normies. and even if they know they don't care (like what would that reputation be? icky weebshit? loli pantyshots everywhere?). and that's before you get to europe which has it's own animation and comic scene (of which people only know tintin and maybe spirou - although they probably know asterix too by now).

Anime was one of the big no-no fandoms of early internet, known for being on the same level as Sonic and MLP, but with the added benefit of people being more likely to run into weebs IRL. I think everyone has experienced those weird kids in high school, college or prior who really latched onto anime. As someone who has had recent experience with school and working wagie jobs where I am around normies, I know all of them know anime and what they know is that it is weird and not much else. It became especially apparent when at a camp job as a few of those kids pull out as much anime shit to weird out their counselors as possible, one even doing a dance presentation for the whole camp with an anime opening theme.

Anime is recognized for being the center of weirdos in America thanks to individuals doing Naruto runs in full gear around a cafeteria or drawing weird weeb shit in the corner (not to mention any porn they may willingly share). Anime is known, but I doubt many want to participate in it or know about it past example below:

not demon slayer, but pokemon, DBZ, naruto etc.
Pokemon has the benefit of not initially being an anime series as much of its popularity is tied into the initial video games, cards, and any toys. I will give you DBZ as I already mentioned it, plus it practically took over Latin American given that it was the only animation many of those countries could afford. Naruto is a weird one as it is kind of hit or miss in terms of recognition today, though I cannot deny that of the people who know about anime past it being weird, it is one of the better known series.

Hey just in case anyone's interested. The entirety of escape from tommorow has survived being on youtube for 7 years albeit with Spanish subtitles.

If it has one flaw it's that It was made too early. Imagine it being made today with the fat men in dresses playing fairy godmother, or the rainbow mafia shoving families out the gates so they can parade around half naked praising themselves.

I refuse to believe these images from the new Snow White are real. This has to be some kind of Fox News parody.

Mud Brown and the Seven Activists are here to smash the patriarchy it seems... maybe one of them will reveal themselves to be a troon too. I seriously don't understand how a boardroom full of actual professionals could greenlight this shit. Literally nobody is asking for this. It's guaranteed to lose money.

I guess she was called Snow White because she loved sniffing cocaine, cause I see no white anywhere else, not even her teeth.

On the "dwarf" front, nigger with ponytails reeks of Tranny, the rest look like they would gangrape anybody in their shack except for jewlocks who probably just watches while jacking off. Also, nice to see that one actual dwarf managed to get hired after Dinklage got his little tardrage, good on him.

Not that new but I don't think it's been mentioned here yet - sorry if it has!

"Daddy" Bob Iger has been extended as CEO til the end of 2026. Apparently the Board think that the man responsible for all of Disney's current problems is the solution to those problems. His "five year post departure consultancy" has also been reset so he'll be there until at least the end of 2031 unless he decides to walk away. Bear in mind that when he finally allowed Chapek to act as CEO for about 11 months (after delaying his departure because muh covid) Iger never gave up the CEO's office and regularly conducted meetings with senior Disney staff without Chapek present. Can't think why no-one wants to take that CEO post!

Iger has already claimed reduced park attendances are due to it being hot in Florida (must be the Disney micro-climate as it doesn't seem to be affecting the competition in the same way), Marvel's problems are due to too much content on Disney plus (his decision) and Disney isn't really a company of grooming degenerates.
