Incredible. This weekend, 25,000 people marched in London for trans rights. This is a movement for our dignity that spans across the borders of nations for trans liberation. No more bans, no more anti-trans laws and bigotry. Solidarity.

The conversation is now entirely about the convicted kidnapper, torturer and attempted murderer “Sarah Jane Baker” who called for violence against women from the stage, was cheered by the crowd, and was supported by the organisers (‘Sarah and many others in our community hold a lot of rage and anger and they have the right to express that anger through their words’, its spokesman said.)

So presumably this incitement to violence against women is something that Tony is absolutely OK with?

I was going to comment on them both being DMs because that was amazing but you guys already said everything.

Did this event articulate any specific goals other than violence against women? Because let me tell you about the history of international movements for vague "liberation" of non-geographically concentrated self-declared peoples...

>>>One of the placards reads "Trans Joy is Real"

Ok, seriously now, where the hell did this "Queer/Trans Joy" business come from all of a sudden? It's starting to eat at me.

Is Tony finally waking up to the fact that Uncle Clarence and Uncle Alito have the final say?

I want Reed to sperg like the hateful shitstain he is and publicly call Thomas and Alito racial slurs. That would be hilarious. Watch his pedo boyfriend try and distance himself from Fat Tony calling to SC judges niggers and wops.

They used to say Gender Euphoria until people realized euphoria just meant boner so now they say Queer Joy when they mean boner.

Could have something to do with the criticism of "queer narratives" being downers for a long time? The "Bury Your Gays" trope. "Queer joy" is sort of a response against being gayness/transness being portrayed as constant suffering and doom.

But it's coming out a little forced.

Tony is AGP, but he strikes me as having more of a narcissistic reason for trooning out. He's failed at other ways of getting attention, and being trans is in, so let's cut off the old dick! People will love me then!
I completely agree with this. There is definitely some sexual element to it for Tony, but the fact that he has based an entire professionalised (pseudo-)persona around this ideology, and how you can practically see him in photographs calculating his next career-move from behind that mighty goblin monobrow, really signals that troonery for him is about reinventing himself in order to compensate for perceived (or real) past failures - a chance for him to be successful where the old Tony was a failure (in his view). I think this is why I've become so interested in him - with a lot of twitter troons (including for example Big Weird Al (Caraballo), for whom the whole thing is obviously just a gross fetish) my interest only extends to casually observing their hilarious idiocy and awful dress sense, but with Tony, there is something far more personal and really desperate going on.

you now the sort of "meh" feeling you have about having unmutilated genitals and not poisoning yourself with wrong sex hormones? and not having the top oppression label to add to whatever marginalised identities you might have? you've accepted reality and are happy that whoever you actually are is your "true self" rather than some unattainable fantasy. pretty boring, right?

well imagine instead of that you had awesome designer genitals that are so much better than the natural versions (gynos can't tell the differrence!!) and got to enjoy controlling the speech of everyone around you and forcing your way into places not meant for you. and you can destroy the livelihoods of anyone who didn't partake in you LARP. people with certain personality characteristics find that prospect extremmely joyful.

Looking into it online, it sounds like this is where the original idea came from – the idea of being happy because of being gay/queer/trans/whatever rather than in spite of it.

It's just striking that I had never heard the specific phrase "queer joy" until a few months ago in the aftermath of Zac's little performance, and now it seems like it's everywhere. I suppose it's possible there's no deeper significance and the term has just gone viral among that crowd lately, but it's a little jarring to see the same phraseology suddenly cropping up everywhere from the websites of minor progressive political advocacy groups in Montana to the frickin' London pride parade.

nah, you're all overthinking the trans joy thing.
I do think there's something here separate from the trans-specific "gender euphoria" (of "euphoria boner" fame). We've seen "queer joy" used recently in many different situations, as opposed to "the feeling trannies get when they dress up".

It does seem to have taken hold recently, though perhaps there's a selection bias here in that we're exposed to Zac so often, and it's one of his catchphrases.

I did some searching and there seems to have been a few articles published online around 2018-2021 where it seems to have had its inception.

2019: Out Chicagoans Share How They Found Their Tribe (archive)
2020: Finding and Centering Queer Joy. by Sassafras Lowrey | by Matthew’s Place | Matthew’s Place | Medium (archive)
2021: Celebrating Queer Joy During Pride | Brooklyn Public Library (archive)
2021: Finding My Queer Joy. The Wonder of Defining Your Own… | by Maria Santana | Hopelab | Medium (archive)

The authors seem to all be from what we might call the middle (non-US sense) or professional-managerial class, ie those hooked into LGBTQIA2S+ activism, which is almost entirely a synthetic affair driven by pressure groups, such as GLAAD or Stonewall.

Here's a chart from Google Trends, showing its frequency as a search term (though with the caveat of "why would you search for 'queer joy' on Google?") in the United States since 2010.
queerjoy-transjoy.png
The data are very noisy, but perhaps there's a slight uptick recently. Here's the trend on Google ngrams (appearances in books) for "queer joy" over the 20 years 1999–2019 (with the caveat of a very small number of appearances):
ngram-queerjoy.png

What I think is more interesting, though, are the results for "queer":
trends-queer.png
ngrams-queer.png
Note the pronounced uptick in searches for "queer" from 2018, and a similar increase in book mentions from about 2013.

My speculation is that as the push to enshrine transgenderism in law and policy has encountered resistance, the groups behind it have put more effort into constructing a "queer community", so that the question is less sharply about male perverts in women's spaces. The idea, I suggest, has been to replace what may have been left of the "gay community" with a group of not only troons and their danger-hair handmaidens but also spicy straights and older gays and lesbians who haven't seriously looked into transgenderism and don't know any better.

Then you say that attacks on trannies are actually attacks on the "queer community", which by now people equate with gay people at large, and you start to see the reflexive support for "queers" on the part of well-meaning but uninformed liberal-leaning people, as I suggest can be seen in the incredible knee-jerk partisan polarisation on this matter in the United States.

But, getting back to "queer joy", nothing actually binds this community of "queers" together (aside from policy at well-funded campaign groups), so you end up with vague pronouncements about people living authentic lives as their true selves, bundled up as "queer joy", which can mean anything to anyone who has ended up being roped into this synthetic community, and serves as a mantra to reinforce the (otherwise extremely tenuous) group bond.

It’s that smug double speak I hate so much. The inference that queer people experience an enlightened state of joy inaccessible to the regular people. I feel like it’s also part of the nefarious way they target the children. Queer and trans joy has been repeatedly shoved in our faces as if it’s the only joy to be found, you wouldn’t deny an innocent child of their joy, right bigot?

More of the same, they have plenty of catchy trendy phrases and mantras that don’t really mean anything specific. They repeat these as if they’ve gotten one over on us. (ha! Take that cissies I’m queer AND happy!) It seems to have the opposite intended effect, people who react to it have the same bewilderment.

Autistic Gay Men Share Their Love for Dungeons and Dragons

LGBTQ Nation: How long had y’all been talking before you became romantically involved?

Zephyr: A few months…

And what sorts of things did you find y’all had in common, apart from politics?

Zephyr: From the litany of interests… D&D [the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons], music, the nerdy things that we both love, sour foods, and all of that, and then just like, I don’t know — you fall in love with the kindness of a person.

Reed: Yeah, I shared my D&D map with her that was kind of cool. We nerded out over books, over TV shows… There was a lot there.

I have got to know: What are your D&D characters like?

Reed: Just to preface this, I am a forever DM [dungeon master, someone who organizes and creates games for other players], so I rarely actually play D&D as a player. But whenever I do play, usually a pirate-themed half-elf wizard that is like on the ocean. I don’t know. That’s like my vibe.

Zephyr: I’ve also been a forever DM and also have not been able to play much since I started campaigning. But I was able to (play as a) guest in her campaign, and I played a fighter with great axe who had two levels in wizardry, so she had a portent and could read the future, and that was really fun.

I'm a forever dungeon master! Me too! Looks like we can't play together :(

I wonder what that is a great metaphor for?

I have a different explanation but it includes your speculation. Right around the uptick in those graphs there was a large movement in academia to rename the gender studies spin off gay and lesbian studies to queer studies. There's also been a large academic movement, following Butler and others lead, to redefine "queer" away from sexuality back towards its original meaning of different, unusual, strange, etc. so it can include troons, furries and whatever the fuck else to prevent it from becoming a niche field that only relates to homosexuality. This fits with the typical progressive/Marxist/etc. framework in which all "marginalized" forces are to be in solidarity at all times from all being oppressed by the white cishet male capitalist system. (As Muslims are currently being lectured about, Islam being a "queer ideology" in the West.) The term is essentially meaningless other than to identify you as not part of The Other which is the group of individuals you have chosen to erase the individuality of because you don't like what they like.

Queer Joy then would be false narcissistic happiness you get from being your own perfect self, likely the resultant of the self-esteem movement combined with the Oppression Olympics requirements of intersectional caste politics within a movement in which all are purported to be equal but only after an endless levelling of status that requires unceasing caste conflict, that manifests most often as exhaustion at the repeated refusal of reality to match your desires. Zac likely experiences queer joy when thinking of spending his life with Tony, whereas Tony likely experiences Queer Joy when thinking about the inverse.

These days, I tend to translate it as "When straight and/or white and/or gay-but-normal people enjoy the simple pleasures of life, it's boring. When People of Validity do it, it's super-special and meaningful, and if this was a TV show, we'd be playing a soft cover of a pop song, the footage would be at 0.75 speed, and there'd be a lot of shots of people laughing set against the setting sun."

There's also been a large academic movement, following Butler and others lead, to redefine "queer" away from sexuality back towards its original meaning of different, unusual, strange, etc. so it can include troons, furries and whatever the fuck else to prevent it from becoming a niche field that only relates to homosexuality.

Now I'm genuinely wondering if there are more gay people or furries in the world. I hope to God the former outnumber the former.

The "queer community" more or less refers to troons and people who fuck troons, no one else. True homosexuality is transphobic and therefore anti-queer.

The poor French nation. Just suffered through nightly waves of migrant rioters, now here comes the jet-setting power couple, spreaders of trans joy:

I wonder if this is really a 'holiday' - I'm sceptical. I expect we'll see some speaking appearance (at the least from Zach, with Tony firmly attached) at some leftist NGO's event.

Where's Tony's kid?
It's summer so mom might have custody. My state gives six weeks to the non-custodial parent. I don't know what VA does by default, but I do know that whatever the custody suitation is that Tony makes sure mom gets the kid every time she's supposed to have him. Quite frankly I'm not sure why he asked for custody in the first place. Or got it, considering he had to be court ordered not to wear her clothes.
