𝕏 / Twitter / X, the Social Media Platform Formerly Known as Twitter / "MUSK OWNS TWITTER"

Ive never heard of any massive YouTube outages affecting its performance, but it’s weird that you use YoutTube as an example of people refusing to switch to new platforms when they’ve been losing considerable ground to TikTok over the past few years.
Unless you can show me solid analytics, I’d say that’s a misleading characterisation because while their audiences overlap, the two platforms don’t compete for the same market. TikTok’s userbase came from its predecessor Musical.ly and ex-competitor Vine. Their specialty is short-form rapid turnover content. YouTube is long form content - if anything, YouTube has attempted to muscle in on TikTok’s turf with their Shorts format.

Forgive me, but if you’re willing to leave Twitter for Threads, all that indicates is you don’t have much invested in it; that is to say, lack of loyalty to a platform isn’t the issue, it is, as it always is, convenience. All of Musk’s political controversies, deserved or otherwise, obfuscate the actual value of Twitter and any competition it’s going to get.

If “hellsite” terminal Twittards like Alex Caraballo and Erin Reed move over and survive for more than a few months, I’ll take what I say back.

I just heard some journoscum on the BBC saying Threads is going to fail as a Twitter competitor because Threads offers nothing that you can't already do on Instagram, and it fails at being a news platform, which drives Twitter's business model and always has. Also the search function currently sucks and there are no hashtags, but he expects Threads to improve that. He said that the only real reason to go on Threads and stay there is if you hate Elon Musk, and there aren't enough people who hate Elon Musk

I was rather shocked to hear a mainstream journoscum say these things instead of sucking Zuck's robot dick and declaring Total Twitter Death

This is the kind of thing that Null gets pissed off the most on his MATI streams, which I can somewhat sympathize with. While it’s nice that Elon can make fun of himself with actual parody accounts, why does the company still not want to bring back Null’s or Kiwi Farms’s Twitter accounts?

I’m sure he doesn’t care, but how many Elon/AOC parody accounts do we need at this point?

The powers that be have made Kiwifarms a toxic asset. We just saw this with the hosts getting pressure over the clearnet mirror.

As long as you play by their rules. You can do whatever you want, like Meta.

Penis jokes, anime loli MAP shit, excessive, needless posturing, swift right wing turn, but only on the surface, boredom with almost everything.
Yup, midlife crisis has hit in full.
He'd be better served by going offline and putting his body through pain in workouts, it's far more satisfying than seething online.

Lmfaoooo

Elongated muskrat joins the cabal of Bill gates and Schwab in the highest rankings of "wealth is wasted on the rich."
Imagine being able to do anything you want- and getting caught lacking in 4K on the daily with the most boring flip flop between average lolcow behavior to Saturday morning captain planet villain shit. A billionaire baby man, 50 going on 5 years old mentally.

Edit: I stand by what I said. Never forget "We're getting free speech back!" Then business as usual, before getting rate limited when the france events popped off.

You may be right, but I’ve heard the same sentiments about YouTube for years. It’s broken, I’m being demonitized, I’m being blacklisted, I’m being auto-unsubscribed, my comments are being botted, Susan Wojcicki bathes in orphan blood, yada, yada, yada. Oh, this and that platform will be what finally acts as a competitor to YouTube. If you listen to half these ‘creators’ they sound like they’re practically being held hostage. Almost nothing that YouTube has done in the past decade has been well received or popular, and yet that’s where people are. That’s where the eyes are established, and people will go to extraordinary degrees of inconvenience to justify a sunk-cost investment.

I don’t think people will swap over for just another version of Twitter, because it’s the risk investing in an unknown quantity for essentially no reward; the successor to it would have to be of a magnitude greater in terms of connectivity and advancement. Twitter, for all its faults, is already so convenient that the app set to replace it would literally have to allow you to kick someone in the nuts from the other side of the world to be competitive.
there's a fundamental difference between youtube and twitter, and that is that youtubes business (video hosting and streaming) is extremely resource hungry. the bandwidth needed to stream hd video to tons of users at the same time, the disk space needed to store the gorillobytes of video data people upload to the site, this is not a cheap or easy service to provide. competing with a giant like google in this field is pretty much impossible.
twitter is different in that the service it provides is really simple and lightweight, doesn't take insane resources to run, it's basically just serving text and jpegs to users, and occasionally short low quality video clips.

my point is, youtube stays top dog because nobody can compete with the sheer value that they provide their users for free. twitter doesn't provide anything like that, it survives pretty much by brand and reputation alone.

Sometimes I wonder if it was Grimes that got Musk into Anime and Kpop.

On one hand, it would be easy to mock this for thinking that Grimes of all people gave Elon to want to relive his glory days. Yet, when one considers the alternative:

It just shows that at times like these, it’s best to remain neutral.

I like Perlman as an actor, but the dude should never have installed twitter. It has completely buck-broke him.
I don't even think of roles or movies anymore when I see his name, I just think "HEY LITTLE DONNY I JUST X IN MY Y HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THAT?" as his face keeps twisting into being an uncanny ape caricature.

The good humbling part about social media is that it taught us all that no one from any social strata or income bracket is immune to having a melty.

Ron Perlman is an insane lolcow who probably deserves a thread of his own. In addition to his bizarre and perverted Lil Donnie tweets, he used to post deranged, ignorant video rants. Here's an example, in response to Tom Cotton questioning SCOTUS nominee KBJ:

As another example, he attacked DeSantis over the "Don't Say Gay" bill. He literally does not understand that that is not the name of the bill but a pejorative nickname given by its opponents:

These were posted to Twitter. I somehow don't see him giving up this platform for the Threads ghost town. He even has the blue checkmark.

Welp, Threads is already failing. Daily users down 20% from the peak of a few days ago, average time a day spent on the app falling from 20 minutes to 8

Google trends, Twitter is basically where it's been for a long time with a 64 rating. Threads beat it for one day, now Threads' Google trends rating is... 12

How does this white African nigger Ebon do it he's untouchable
