Vtubers aren't on strike. Fleshtubers aren't on strike. Korean/Indian/Japanese/Hong Kong media isn't on strike. The West's fixation on Hollywood is pathetic at this point. Which gives me lulz.
Non-Film Actors Guild and Non-Script Crafting Union Members are still doing shit too.

Believe you me I'm fully aware of the state we're in. What I fear is an eventuality is that AI will be used to create events and happenings and evidence whole cloth and there will be no way to tell the difference unless you were there.
This has always been an argument I didn't understand. The last 20 years has been countries dismantling their industry and power grid over a fake propaganda piece by a failed USA presidential candidate. Fabricating events has always been journos job, it's just that now they have competition.

I'm not so much worried about AI going full Skynet as much as I am the government creating evidence to easily and legally disappear people they don't like.
I mean, when you put it like that, it sounds like you’re rooting for the Age Of The Machines, because I feel like the government’s prospects with AI are only as far as they can control it.

I’m kind of surprised that we haven’t seen anyone try to push the next Squid Game with this strike. And anime is still going to be around.

I have to bang the drum again that the issue of AI as a means of "preserving" a writer or actors existence in perpetuity beyond even death itself is a hill worth on dying on. The studios cannot be allowed to create a digital Tom Cruise for Mission Impossible 20, decades from now.

this is quite literally "first they came for". Nobody here likes these cunts and probably won't bat an eye if they all die. But a precedent is about to be set here that will have massive ramifications for human society going foreword.

I don't think SAG and the Writers are even aware of just what kind of a fight they just picked here. It's all about the residuals and the rights to them. But to the corporations it's all about their ability to replace humanity itself.
I don't care. The only reason things got so bad is becuase the media and the so called "creative class" (not that they actually had any creativity) were shielded from the negative effects of globalism on the mid-section of the United States, the middle class, etc. They made this bed. Let them sleep in it. I could give less of a rat's ass if a computer will now be translating Japanese video games or some stuck up artist on Twitter that does graphic design is replaced by an algorithm. None of these people are valuable to society, and their inflated sense of self worth is beyond disgusting.

I have to agree fully. It pains me but I do.

Feetsballers also make more than heart surgeons. It is a clown world.

Main reason why most are laughing at this. Yes crew and other low-level production jobs are affected - but those involved should've thought about that before hitching themselves to an industry dependent on public goodwill and economic growth. You're not essential, you contribute nothing of value, and you rely on fickle opinions to keep the gravy train going. Don't like it? Find another industry that you can leverage your skills in. God knows plenty of us already have.

As an aside really makes the seething at anime/manga/vtubers all the more hilarious :story:

And all they had to do was make good content and not be in love with the smell of their own farts.

We should really just use this as a basis to decentralize Hollywood and create a new one, in Texas or Tennessee or at Angel Studios whatever they're making alternatives at, because I find it perplexing that they constantly have these strikes, constantly work for the people whom they strike against and constantly vote for people who increase the cost of living where they live.

Sean Gunn and that She-Hulk writer will never be able to work at Disney again after this.

They would need permission for that. Bruce Willis gave permission to use his likeness for future work before he retired. It doesn't look good from what I saw of it. That was one of the main concerns for this strike: using AI recreations of actors in shows like Snowpiercer without their permission. Whic is understandable. I don't think AI will be able to replace actors (maybe not voice actors) and writers at this time, though.

This. You made your choice deciding to go full-throttle in a place like Hollywood. You need a second or third job the vast majority of the time if you're going to do that.

Bob Iger knows this. He probably does have the money to make these residual raises, but because he has the control, of course he's not going to do so. His films are losing money, and at some point in the future if this keeps up they will burn through his wallet.

And all they had to do was make good content and not be in love with the smell of their own farts.
Couldn't even do that.

I am not worried about the current crop of retards. I am worried about what comes after if this fight is conceded. We as a society are violating some serious Commandments. Whether you take the more secular arguments of Science Fiction such as the Dune saga, or you go a more religious route against the prohibition of Graven images.

A part of me honestly believes these people were cultivated to be eminently unlikable, just so when the hammer dropped nobody would bat an eye. The simple truth is if Hollywood breaks this strike the Corpos won't need Humans anymore. From there it's a simple formality to update copyright law to say that machine learning is not a breach of copyright and sum creative totality of humanity can be inputted into a computer for content output.

My Lord inquisitors or the Farms. How can you not see the Heresy that is being played out before our very eyes? How the nobility of this world spits in the eye of the divine commands of the God Emperor? They would wield the abominable intelligence in lieu of the perfection that is the human mind, and replace the soul of man with the cogitation of a perfidous machine. Even the most perverse of the mechanicus knows that a machine is sinply a tool of the greater mind. it is not a replacement of it. Death is too great a mercy for the architects of this heresy.

Sounds good to me. Machines are more creative than 90% of people are, and corporations will find a way to oppress us with or without a bunch of spoiled writers and actors.

Corporate media is already soulless, creativity bankrupt, etc. etc. The only thing this will do is remove a bunch of leaches profiting off of it further down the chain that then go on places like Twiter and lord over the normal non-media plebeians who they expect to treat them like gods because they're hacks who used neptosim or whatever else to break into this stupid industry that hates its consumers.

I don't know why you are going into some religious spiel about this. Chill out. Frankly, entertainment adjacent industries needed to be purged of the slime for a long time coming. I'm taking this as a gift even if it might have some effect on my own industry. Automation was already fucking over people and no one cared. The only reasons people care NOW is because it's affecting the people who thought they were safe and were laughing at everyone else who suffered over it. "Learn to code" didn't start out as a meme.

The damage is already done, you can put this genie back in the bottle. If it has the benefit destroying of the gates "the creative class" used to keep other people out, fuck them. Bring it all down.

I do have to wonder if the stock market bots are the only ones that are propping up the stock market. Because it isn't savvy business decisions helping people's stonks.
It's all fake and gay. When it's not market manipulation it's the federal government doing bailouts. We'll see if Hollywood has nearly as much clout and pull as banks do.

Although he's something of a lolcow (but not to the degree the a-loggers trying to make a thread on him try to present), Michael French of Retroblasting put a video out on this whole situation, and concluded that this was the time for YouTubers to shine.
Highly :optimistic: in my opinion, given YouTube's own issues, but there you go.

Its all (((Funny))) money that is backed by (((I say so goy))) and has been since fiat was made. It is just crypto with extra steps, but hey at least it can be used to start fires when hyperinflation hits.

That is crazy. Less than half even bothered to cast their vote. Were they completely apathetic or was the fix in?
Why not both. The turnout in the UAW Election was about as abysmal, if I recall, and it seemed to favor the new guy promising to rattle more chains in this year's negotiations. Take that however you will when it comes to union elections.

Cool, that's another two decades I can spend watching old movies or playing old games that aren't dogshit.
Same here. I told someone the other day that the worst AI content couldn't be any worse than stuff currently pushed out by today's human writers. In the meantime, I'll enjoy all the older content from an era when stuff had to be good to be popular.

The striking writers are too creatively bankrupt to come up with anything good or catchy.

This came up.
