What have you recently eaten?

I used to go to IKEA once a week as a student and gorge on köttbullar, the Swedish meatballs. I was recently taught the fine dining recipe and it was unbelievable. Buttery, exploding with flavour and lighter than you'd think, with a real contrast between savoury and sour.
I usually only go to IKEA to buy furniture because as a crazy cat dude it makes no sense to buy expensive furniture but I always have the meatballs or salmon or something.

I had some goat from a somalian place recently. I have to say, after not being particularly impressed with carib goat dishes the Somalian American guys did it up nicely. It was still a bit too fatty but the gaminess was gone and it reminded me a bit of good lamb as I found myself nibbling around the bone to get all of it. The fucking spot itself a hole in the wall with absolutely zero signage and when you walk in it's either a front or a really good ethnic restaurant. As a person that forever judges everything food on my time living in NYC, it felt right.

I made a couple of burgers yesterday due to somebody, presumably a roommate, deciding to go through the standalone freezer and not shutting the damn door properly late at night. I had to scramble and save what slowly-defrosting item I could and two 4-packs were still frozen solid. Thankfully the burgers were sealed so there wasn't too much of a risk of severe food poison and food spoilage.

I also had a bowl of Christmas Crunch (from a sealed box I've been saving since the holidays) for breakfast today, it's a good month past its sell-by date but it's still good

Just got some buffalo wings from 99, and holy shit were they disgusting. It tasted like they were soaked in vinegar, or something.

I tried something different, ended up getting ahold of 5 pounds of lamb fat from my neighbor (she raises lambs, goats, chickens and does a shit ton of gardening) as a thank you for fixing her computer so I made some lamb fat curry over rice. Not too spicy but it turned out really well. Mixed a little flour into the drippings while the fat was cooking and turned it into a thicker gravy consistency with a bit of whiskey to make things interesting, added some lentils in with the rice and a decent amount of summer savory which really seems to cut the greasiness - works well with fried chicken and pork belly as well. Its rich as hell so I don't think i'll make it very often but its pretty good. Definitely the kind of thing thats good to have before doing some logging and strenuous stuff like that. But yeah, it turned out surprisingly well. Though i'd recommend not eating too much of it in one go, that much fat can cause an upset stomach pretty easily

I got one of these cheesy durian wafer rolls from a Universal Yums box and was initially pretty scared due to the reputation durian has. They're actually not bad at all, though I have no idea if this is an accurate representation of durian or if this is a very toned down version of the real thing. The cheese works with the durian because it just makes it into the kind of funk you expect from a fancy cheese.

Cream cheese, lox and scallion on a toasted poppy seed bagel. Real NYC jews will tell you toasted is against God himself, but fuck that shit.

Well its not that exciting compared to what other people are talking about by I spent 2 and a half quid on some premade guacamole with chilli and holy shit its amazing. Might get hooked on this.

had gotten the "firey nuggets" from BK
they weren't bad at all from a taste standpoint, but they were just the normal nuggets swimming in an oily sauce not too different from chinese chili oil but only oil, not as hot and a nice changeup from my recent fast food spicy experiences which were mostly fratty style WOOOOOOOOOOOO SPICY bullshit
and I smoke and drink so I should expect a decent resistance to spicy
but yeah worst part is the oil everywher which is a really shit thing to have when you're driving, because your hands get covered with the slop, AND it's just in a fucking fry baggie so it spills about thirty seconds after you pull away from the building

A guy I'm friendly with that runs a restaurant near me gave us a "house meal" of fresh mussels he picked from the beach the other day. He cooked them up in some broth and gave them to us free as we drank and bullshitted at his spot. Not bad. Much fresher than I've had at most places. Bourdain said mussels are the one thing he usually hestiates with if he doesn't know the cleanliness of the kitchen so I'm always a bit wary.

BKs tend to vary in terms of quality so I've almost never had any of their chicken items (I do remember having the chicken fries once) out of caution. I've had better spicy nuggets at Wendy's and they're pretty good, they have a ghost pepper ranch that goes well with said spicy nuggets.

Tried some Morning Star nuggets. Never again in my fucking life, they've absolutely gone down the shitter in terms of quality.
Had some fried rice I slapped together with leftover chicken and steak, and that turned out way better.

Lesson of the day: Real meat can never be beat by imitation.
